NBC Universal Owned Television Stations is the division of NBCUniversal that includes 11 local NBC television stations, 28 local Telemundo stations, 5 Regional Sports Newtorks and their digital channels and websites, as well as a group of out-of-home properties and a production company. Job Description
NBC 5 Chicago, WMAQ-TV, is looking for a talented and motivated DayPart Manager responsible for news coverage and newscasts.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
- Responsible for overall editorial content on all platforms produced by WMAQ, NBC Chicago, including but not limited to Out-of-Home, web, and on-air broadcast.
- The Daypart News Manager will oversee the platform managers and the pool of content producers creating content for all platforms.
- Collaborates with other newsroom managers, and all divisions of NBC Local, for special events planning as well as day-to-day coverage.
- Will work with all facets of the organization, including Production, IT, Creative Services and Broadcast Operations and the newsroom to ensure the most accurate and compelling local coverage.
- Responsible for tracking coverage-related costs and ensuring fiscal responsibility in the news department.
- Responsible for scheduling content producers and platform managers to ensure proper coverage.
- Responsible for writing and delivering performance reviews for platform managers and content producers
- Responsible for hiring quality talent when needed, as well as coaching and mentoring current employees.
- Will be part of an on-call rotation of manager to provide oversight of weekend morning and evening newscasts.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in newsroom management or supervisory role
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and any shift as assigned
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
- Must be 18 years of age

- Minimum 5 years of experience writing, producing and desktop editing
- Strong editorial judgment as well as the ability to respond and make decisions in a breaking news situation for coverage across multiple platforms.
- Team-player attitude
- Experience in script approval–with strong editorial judgment
- Ability to lead the newsroom–offering positive and negative feedback to help grow and develop the team
- Innovative and creative thinker who will push to make NBC Chicago’s local content the best in the market
