The ideal candidate is a dynamic entertainment or showbiz reporter who specializes or wants to specialize in TV shows, and has a deep understanding of the TV landscape, from Teen Mom to the Kardashians and every star in between. The role will require the staffer to work on original content every day – we are not a website that aggregates.
The ideal candidate would be on the West Coast and would work 2 pm until 10 pm, Monday to Friday, although exceptional candidates from elsewhere will be considered.
The job is freelance to start but will likely turn into a staff position.
Key responsibilities:
- Watch live TV shows daily and identify stories that will drive traffic
- Work with editors to turn around copy quickly and accurately, mindful of legal issues
- Work with video and picture desks to create content efficiently
- Produce posts in WordPress
Key Skills and Experience:
- Broad knowledge of tabloid subjects, including A-list celebrities and reality stars
- Passion for writing about TV, including morning talk shows, evening game shows and soap operas
- An instinct for how to ‘sell’ a digital story to get maximum impact on The Sun’s platforms and also on social media
- Excellent, fast writing and basic editing skills
- The ability to write in a concise and entertaining way in keeping with The Sun’s style
- Familiarity with best SEO practices
- Ability to work as part of a team in a constantly adapting working environment that is always striving to find new ways of telling news stories
- Ambition to progress and make the most of opportunities that present themselves
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
