Job Description: “Rutka: A New Musical” is a powerful indie-rock musical making its world premiere. The story revolves around Rutka, a teenager living through the trials of adolescence in a Jewish ghetto in 1943 Poland. This all-new musical, based on the historical “Rutka’s Notebook,” blends personal narratives with the backdrop of a war-torn era, highlighting themes of hope, resilience, and resistance. The production seeks talented actors who can bring to life the poignant and intense experiences of its characters through powerful performances and strong vocal abilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Portray the character in line with the director’s vision and the musical’s narrative.
  • Attend all rehearsals and perform during scheduled shows, which may include matinees and evening performances.
  • Work collaboratively with other cast members, the director, and production staff to develop and refine performances.
  • Participate in promotional events, photo shoots, and media interviews as required.

Role Specific: LOLEK

  • Age: 18+ to play a 17-year-old male, Jewish character.
  • Character Traits: Bookish, philosophical, passionate about politics and intellectual pursuits. Unexpectedly brave, a natural leader who is unconcerned with others’ opinions and follows his own path.
  • Vocal Requirements: Strong singing ability with folk/indie rock sensibility. Ability to reach at least a G in vocal range.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in theater, musical theater, or similar productions.
  • Excellent singing skills; must be able to mix/belt to specific notes depending on role (women to C/D, men to G).
  • Ability to portray complex emotions and develop a convincing character.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • All ethnicities are welcomed and encouraged to audition. Commitment to diverse and inclusive casting.

Compensation:

  • $1,100 per week minimum, as per LORT (League of Resident Theatres) guidelines.
