Job Description:

Insight Editions is looking for a talented Assistant Production Editor to manage a high volume of projects through the entire editorial process and assist Production Editors. We are looking for someone who has impeccable project management skills, editorial experience, and a good eye for design with at least two or more years of publishing experience, preferably within project management or production editorial. This is a junior position with a lot of opportunity for growth. For the projects you manage, you will be responsible for keeping everyone involved, engaged, and on schedule. An ability to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects while working closely with internal departments, talented authors, illustrators, editors, and licensors is essential. It is imperative that you are extremely detail-focused and can handle ever-changing deadlines and expectations with calm and ease. Being passionate about the product and fandom and relentless in your drive for perfection are qualities that drive success in this position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee 25 to 30 titles at various phases in production across multiple imprints and diverse subject matters
  • Create, manage, and update schedules for assigned titles
  • Oversee eBook conversion schedules; facilitate eBook process with outside vendors
  • Copyedit and proofread materials when necessary
  • Code manuscripts via Word in preparation for transmittal to design
  • Hire and manage freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers; review work and manage budgets and invoices
  • Collate all corrections to passes; check implementation of corrections
  • Proactively problem solve; take initiative to troubleshoot queries and inconsistencies noted in manuscripts and passes
  • Adhere to and manage house style guides
  • Attend weekly work-in-progress meetings; track deadlines and follow up with departments as needed
  • Update necessary trackers, including FileMaker and Google Sheets, with up-to-date information
  • Exude a positive attitude as timelines and priorities shift

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in English or a related field
  • Two or more years of publishing experience, preferably within project management or production editorial
  • Project management experience managing multiple schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Extensive grammar, copyediting, and proofreading proficiencies and an in-depth knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace
  • A passion for books and writing
  • Knowledge of our existing licensors a plus

The Executive Producer, National News will be responsible for leading a team of producers and associate producers in the production of live and recorded national newscasts.
