  • Nancy met Nicole as a customer for her business, but they became fast friends. Nancy is a domestic abuse survivor herself, she sensed Nicole was in danger. Nancy and Nicole were only friends for 9 months before she was killed.

  • Gary had a fantasy of the perfect family when his mother Nicole married Carl. He viewed Carl as an action hero, a war hero, and liked him instantly. His mother tried her best to shield Gary from the abuse she endured, but as he got older and started confronting Carl he became a target.

• Carl is a veteran and former police officer. He proposed to Nicole on their first date.
• He was initially intense and charismatic but with time the mask fell to reveal an abusive, controlling, drug-addicted, paranoid person. After he killed his wife and Tom, he told police he would “do it again”.

  • Nicole was a divorced mother of three boys when she met Carl. Nicole experienced emotional and physical abuse at the hands of Carl, something she hid from her immediate family and friends. She was reserved, and had few friends but was intensely devoted to her children and Christian faith. Nicole died trying to leave Carl.
