Synopsis:
Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea is a modern love story set alongside a young man’s pursuit for
ancestral connection. Told through movement, rhythm, and poetry, this dramatic comedy follows eighteen-year-old Dontrell Jones III on a journey that leads him from Baltimore City to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in search of an ancestor that gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom during the Middle Passage. Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea invites audiences to consider family, identity, and a shared legacy that extends beyond bondage.

As the Creative Producer, you’ll lead, produce, and create a video that tells our story and enhances our brand. We are looking for a video content creator who can take a video and create many different stories from that video. You are a storyteller with a passion for creativity and telling stories through video. You will collaborate with the creative team to strategize and develop a variety of video content for multiple digital channels. 

Qualifications: 

  • Understand the impact video content makes on our audience, you take as much pride in creating a short documentary as you do in a social media post
  • Working knowledge of video editing software and technology (Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
  • Able to utilize a range of camera and production equipment in the field
  • Knowledge of social media marketing and experience with researching contemporary trends is a plus
  • Experience with creating video-based social media content (preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Spending some days “on-site” where the video is being shot, and other days in the office editing video, creating video snippets for various social or media channels, developing copy for the video delivery, such as for a landing page, or for a social post
  • Assist with photo and video shoots in the field and at our CK Headquarters
  • Research and monitor emerging video trends on social media platforms 
  • Work closely with the Creative Lead to maintain the overarching content strategy

Our intern will assist with photo and video editing, as well as the shooting of some photo and video work. Currently our staff is working remotely until early 2022, but the intern will have the option of working remotely or coming into our Bethesda, MD. office.

The Video Production Intern will work 24 hrs./week, to be divided as needed based on intern availability. This is a part-time paid position.

Job Summary

The Video Producer is a member of the Visual and Immersive Experiences team that is responsible for helping to research, conceptualize, plan, shoot, edit, and produce video for multiple platforms, including digital and social, that reflects EdWeek’s expertise and content standards. Under the direction of the Visuals Editor, the video producer will work alongside other producers, as well as other staff and visual colleagues to create content for multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will efficiently manage their time while working on multiple projects and be able to bounce nimbly between them. They’ll be able to put their storytelling and research skills to work one day on a longer-term piece, while spending the next day reacting to the news of the day to produce a quick turnaround package that meet the needs of the audience.

This is a full-time, contract position and the term of the contract is flexible. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the video team at large
  • Help conceptualize, plan, shoot, edit, and produce video for multiple platforms
  • Craft creative video explainers that meet audience needs and incorporate both graphics and video
  • Plan assignment coverage with reporters and editors
  • Hire, coordinate (“produce”), and negotiate freelance assignments with videographers
  • Work with the web and social media teams to distribute and promote our videos across platforms

Qualifications

Education Week

Casting call for “Slightly New”, a feature-length comedy film.  This micro budget film will be shot in Baltimore, MD and surrounding areas (talent must be local).

Logline

A pair of troublemaking slackers have 72 hours to save their failing used car dealership, their friendship, and themselves.  

Synopsis 

Stuck in a dead-end sales job at a shady dealership, Brandon and Leo were always destined for mediocrity. But when their boss gets arrested and things take a turn for the better (or the worse?) at work, the duo have a chance to finally step up and make something of themselves. Between keeping the IRS off their backs and a rival dealership off their case, dealing with the women, weed, and occasional 2 hour employee lunch break seems like light work. The road back to respectability is a long, bumpy test drive.

Leo: 21-29 y.o. African-American Male.  Textbook definition of slacker and stoner.  A self-made “Hustler”, who does the bare minimums to get by in life.  Bestfriend & roommates with Brandon.

Supporting Characters:

Malcolm: 21-29 y.o. African-American Male.  Antagonist, Manager of rival car dealership across the street, longstanding grudge with Brandon & Leo, very conniving and will do everything in his power to shut them down.

Max: 21-29 y.o. African-American Male, Antagonist #2, Malcolm’s assistant, a real Yes-Man.  Very nerdy, awkward and a bit of a pushover, has a big crush on Hailie. 

Jayla: 19-25 y.o. African-American Female, company accountant, nerdy & neurotic as she is gorgeous. She has a crush on Brandon and serves as his love interest. 

DeShaun: 21-29 y.o. African-American Male, “Newbie” car salesman, stereotypical Millennial, easily distracted and learns on the fly.

Leroy: 40-70 y.o. African-American Male, veteran car salesman, been around since opening day.  Very blunt and doesn’t hold his tongue and very much so stuck in his ways.

Hailie: 21-29 y.o. African-American Female, company receptionist very intelligent and sarcastic, completely disinterested in her position.  Dreams of escaping the 9-5 rat race.

Deacon Davis – 35-55 y.o. Male, man of the cloth but seems dishonest, very lively, but also shady.  Comic relief.

MAGA Hat Guy -25 – 45 y.o. African-American Male, loud, boisterous and uncaring about what others think of his attire.  Comic relief.
