Family Feud’s rigorous schedule took toll on Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey, the illustrious host of ‘Family Feud’ since 2010, candidly admitted in an interview that the intense filming schedule of the show nearly drove him to his breaking point. The famed host confided to Donna Farizon of ‘Today’ how his initially demanding schedule was overwhelming him physically, emphasizing that it had to be adjusted to prevent it from being harmful.

Initially, Harvey was shooting a staggering eight shows per day in front of a live studio audience, a feat that was slowly grinding him down. The actor described the ordeal, “When I first got this show, we did eight shows a day, three days a week; we did Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I did eight shows a day; I did 24 in a week, and I almost killed myself.”

Show filming schedule reduced, but still grueling

Even with the amended schedule, which saw the reduction of the daily show filming to six a day, Harvey shared that it was still a formidable task due to his diligent work ethic. “That was a murder’s row for me after a while because of the way I work, you know. I’m not just reading the questions, you know, it’s actually a show for me,” the comedian explained.

Steve Harvey leaves his signature on the show

Despite the physically taxing workload, Steve shared his gratitude for the opportunity to put a personal touch on the show, “They allowed me to put my own little stamp on this show…I’m pretty fortunate, man, in that this format is kind of like tailor-made for my gift.”

As he approaches his 15-year milestone on the show, Harvey admitted that the years seem to pass quicker on the set. “At first they (the years) were kind of blowing by, but now I kind of feel ’em all,” he noted.

Steve Harvey’s possible return to stand-up comedy

In a separate revelation, Harvey announced that he would contemplate a return to stand-up comedy only after retiring from television. During a 2022 ABC Television Critics Association press tour, he stated, “The only way I can do one more special is that it would have to be at the end of my television career because it will end my television career.”

However, fans do not need to fret yet. The former ‘King of Comedy’ remains a constant presence on daytime TV, hosting ‘Family Feud’ and his new court show, ‘Judge Steve Harvey’. Harvey reflected, “One thing about Steve, he’s gon’ keep a j.o.b.”
