What do you think is the worst thing you can do on a first date?
A man is suing his first date for texting during a movie. Brandon Vezmar, 37, says the woman pulled out her phone 15 minutes into a showing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at an Austin theater.
Vezmar told the American-Statesman that she used her phone 10 to 20 times in a 15 minute period, despite him asking her to stop. He then suggested she go text outside the theater, so she left and never came back.
“It was kind of a first date from hell,” he said. “This is like one of my biggest pet peeves.”
As a result, he filed a lawsuit against the 35-year-old date, who has not been identified. He is seeking reimbursement for the $17.31 ticket to a 3D showing of the Atlanta-filmed Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
“While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society,” the suit said.
The woman, who met Vezmar online, reportedly refused to pay him back because “he took me on the date.” According to the New York Post, though, she denied being a bad date.
“I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody,” she told the American-Statesman. “I’m not a bad woman, she said. “I just went out on a date.”
To add a plot twist, the movie’s director chimed on Twitter, siding with Vezmar, “Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time!” Gunn tweeted.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Kurt Russell, Michael Rooker and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, is currently in theaters.
