Dave Chappelle Too Drunk to Perform? Detroit Audiences Boo Dave Chappelle’s Comeback Tour

Comedian Dave Chappelle did not have a good night in Detroit last week. According to reports, audience members were not impressed by the comedian’s last stand-up performance.

Dave Chappelle did two shows in one night last week in Detroit as part of his ongoing comeback tour, and reports suggest the first show went well.

Chappelle, during the first Thursday show in the sold-out doubleheader, was described as “cool and calm” with “sharp” material by Adam Graham of the Detroit News.

WDIV-TV, Channel 4 News said Chappelle slayed, and social media accounts from his Friday performance were generally positive; however, the second Thursday set is a different story.

But, apparently things did not go so well in the second show.

According to multiple people in the crowd during Thursday night’s 9:30 show at the Fillmore … a seemingly wasted Chappelle took the stage an hour late (mostly due to the crowd still being seated), and told very few jokes. Instead, he sat quietly smoking, rambling, and slurring his speech.

In this video you can hear someone in the crowd yell, “Let’s hear some of the act!” Dave responds, “Well sir, it’s a little late for that. Right now I’ve gotta get off the stage because it’s 2:00 in the morning.”

The crowd quickly reminds him it was only 1 AM.

Since Dave Chappelle is a professional stand-up comedian, I know this is not the first time he performed in front of a rough crowd. A fan was arrested in July for throwing a banana peel at him. Hopefully, he can make a comeback in his next comeback stand-up show.
