Ryan Murphy’s upcoming project will be about the Menendez Brothers instead of Dahmer.
The second season of Ryan Murphy’s Monster anthology Netflix series will center on Lyle and Erik Menendez, continuing after The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in 2022.
Reports state that Netflix has ordered two additional seasons of the anthology series. One of the two seasons will be Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The streamer stated that they have exclusive access to the Menendez Brothers for a documentary produced by Campfire Studios.
In 1996, the Menendez Brothers were convicted of killing their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez. They are currently serving a life sentence and are not eligible for parole. According to the prosecution, the brothers killed their parents to inherit their multimillion-dollar estate. However, the brothers argued that they committed the murders out of fear for their own safety. They claimed that their father had been abusing them emotionally, physically, and sexually, and had threatened to harm them if they told anyone about it.
During the trial, Diane Vander Molen and Andy Cano stated that they heard Lyle and Erik confess to being sexually abused by José at different times in their lives. Vander Molen shared the information with Kitty, who then reportedly dismissed Lyle’s claims as lies. The topic was not brought up again after that. Roy Rosselló, a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, also alleged that he was sexually assaulted as a teenager by José in the Peacock docuseries Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.
