Following the success of Furious 7, Hollywood is planning on creating several prequels and a Fast & Furious spinoff.
According to Universal insiders close to THR, studio executives are currently exploring the idea of creating spinoffs and prequels to develop more movies beyond the original Fast & Furious movies.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone that has been following Fast & Furious over the past couple of years especially when Fast & Furious is the studio’s most lucrative brand.
The previous Fast & Furious movie, Furious 7, made a whopping $1.5 billion worldwide. Now, Straight Outta Compton director, F. Gary Gray will direct the next movie in the Fast & Furious franchise.
This is probably a smart idea for the Universal studios as more and more movies are centering around building cinematic universes.
For example, Disney’s Star Wars is expanding to at least three more movies.
Marvel’s cinematic universe is constantly expanding with movies planned for at least the next 10 years and DC comic’s growing list of superhero movies.
