New Jersey Locals Wanted: Peacock’s ‘Crystal Lake’ Prequel Series to ‘Friday the 13th’ Begins Casting
Horror fans, your time has come. Peacock’s highly anticipated Crystal Lake series—a chilling prequel to the legendary Friday the 13th franchise—is officially casting, and production is taking place right here in New Jersey.
Backed by A24 and Peacock, Crystal Lake is bringing Jason Voorhees back to life… sort of. The series will explore the haunting backstory behind Camp Crystal Lake, with casting now underway for local background actors of all ages.
What Is Crystal Lake?
Crystal Lake is a prequel TV series inspired by the iconic 1980 slasher Friday the 13th. While plot details remain under wraps, the show is described as an “expanded prequel” that will delve into the eerie origins of the Voorhees family—particularly Pamela Voorhees and her son, Jason.
Set before the events of the original film, the series is based on characters created by Victor Miller and is produced by A24 in partnership with Peacock. It promises a fresh take on the franchise with new lore, familiar terror, and a modern TV edge.
Who’s Behind the Series?
A-list talent and experienced horror veterans are steering the production:
- Linda Cardellini will portray Pamela Voorhees, a mother who gives up her music career to care for her special needs son—ultimately setting off a horrifying chain of events.
- Brad Caleb Kane, known for Welcome to Derry, will serve as the showrunner, creator, writer, and executive producer.
- The series is produced by A24 and is being filmed under the working title “Mama’s Boy.”
