Job Description
We are NBCUniversal’s enterprise-wide Standards department. Our team develops and implements content policies that center our viewers and excite our collaborators, including creators, advertisers, and brand partners, in order to deliver the best experience for all audiences. We support innovative ad products and culture-defining entertainment programming while ensuring that NBCU’s advertising and program content reflects the sensibilities of our company and respects our diverse community of fans across broadcast, cable, and streaming.
We seek to add an experienced Manager to our team. As a significant addition to our highly professional team, you will work to ensure that advertisements and programs comply with internal and external standards, laws, and regulations while being cognizant of public policy and community acceptability considerations. You will be expected to spot issues, think quickly, and make accurate decisions to maintain the integrity of NBCU. You will be highly professional with a thoughtful, proactive nature, strong people skills, and the ability to solve problems creatively and collaboratively. You will also be expected to take the lead on projects that improve the way the department functions.
This position is based in Los Angeles, California, and reports to the Vice President, Standards, in Los Angeles. As we are a geographically distributed department with teams in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, you will be expected to partner effectively and seamlessly with colleagues across the department to achieve common goals.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Review scripted and unscripted programs at all stages of production to ensure compliance with broadcast requirements, identify standards issues and corporate concerns, make sensitive contextual judgments, and assign Television Parental Guideline Ratings.
- Review advertisements for NBC’s linear and digital (including streaming) properties, from concept to final edit to ensure they meet internal brand standards and regulatory requirements.
- Review and evaluate a wide range of marketing, scientific, and other data submitted in support of advertising claim substantiation.
- Provide clearly articulated verbal and written notes and constructive, practical guidance consistent with NBCUniversal’s standards, and FTC, FDA, CARU, and FCC rules and regulations.
- Negotiate and collaborate with internal and external parties, including ad sales, programming executives, writers, producers, creative agencies, advertising agencies, and legal counsel.
- Operate delay mechanism for live programming, including outside regular working hours.
- Provide guidance in an advisory capacity to business affairs, legal, and marketing.
- Hire, train, manage and develop junior and early career colleagues including interns, Pages and/or Associate Editors, as needed.
- Proactively monitor and analyze department systems and processes and develop and implement innovative ideas that improve the way we work.
Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000; bonus eligable
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree.
- At least five (5) years of experience working in standards and practices, trust and safety, legal or production at a major consumer entertainment, media or technology company or digital platform.

- Must be willing and available to work some evening, holiday and weekend hours to meet operational needs.
- Must be able to separate personal beliefs and interests from content review requirements to apply NBCU’s guidelines and policies to applicable content.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate respect for all and foster an equitable and inclusive environment.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to engage in sensitive and difficult conversations as the nature of the work performed may require discussion of sensitive subjects that appear in content undergoing review.
