Jane Got a Gun: Why Extras, Cast and Director Quit in the Middle of Filming

Date:

Natalie Portman went through a lot to make her new movie Jane Got a Gun

Portman lost the original director Lynne Ramsay and several of the lead cast members including Jude Law and Michael Fassbender all quit the movie while it was in the middle of production.

According to The Guardian, it all centered around production delays. It all centered around disagreements with the movie’s director and producers. After Michael Fassbender quit the movie due to production delays, it set a chain of reactions that led to nothing but problems.

From The Guardian:

Disagreements between Portman, also a producer, Ramsay and Steindorff over which actor should be brought in to replace Michael Fassbender as the film’s male lead also led to delays. The Irish actor was eventually replaced by Joel Edgerton, who had been due to play a villain, with Law arriving to replace the Australian actor.

Even with production ready to go again – though no word yet on who is replacing the departed Law – producers reportedly ran into further financial woes when it was discovered that 175 extras originally hired to work on the film had been cancelled owing to delays. Executives were then forced to hire a new set of background actors to get the shoot up and running, at some cost.

Joel Edgerton, the co-star in Jane Got a Gun, told Page Six, that “there were challenging moments.”

“Getting a knock on my trailer door on Day 1 and instead of someone asking how I’d like my latte, it was [someone] telling me the director wasn’t there. It’s like being on the eve of a battle and you have a general and then your general taps out . . . It really tests your mettle.”

Jane Got a Gun filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico and centers around a woman who asks her ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him.
