Redman reveals that ‘How High 2’ is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
14 years since the stoner movie How High took viewers to higher learning and years before Seth Rogen ever created a single weed movie, Method Man and Redman’s jokes still live on today. Now, it looks as though the Jesse Dylan directed movie is planning to hit theaters once again.
In an interview with XXL, Redman revealed that How High 2 is still in development, but might arrive in 2017. “The writers are still writing the script,” he says. “Just looking at it time wise and being realistic about it. By the time we shoot it, get it edited, color corrected, that’s going to be a year or so, so yeah about 2017.”
There is no word on who is going to star in the movie or where the movie will film. But, the previous How High movie did pretty well in the box office.
In How High, Methodman and Redman smoke weed planted in the ashes of a dead friend, and his ghost gets them into Harvard.
But, it is important to point out that for nearly a decade there have been rumors and suggestions that a ‘How High’ movie was coming out.
For example, in 2008, Redman said that a script for the sequel was in the middle of being written, saying “we wanna represent all the smokers.” Then in 2009, Redman reportedly blamed Universal Pictures for the movie’s day, saying “They’re not opening that money door for us to shoot it. We promoted the shit out of that movie. We got the whole world waiting for a ‘How High 2‘.
The following year, in 2010, Redman argued that because of their deal with Universal, they cannot release a ‘How High 2’, “How High 2 is coming. But remember, Universal owns the rights to How High. They own the names, they own the characters, they own the whole thing. If Red and Meth do a movie, we can’t call it How High. Only person that can get us out of that is Keenen Ivory Wayans.” Five years ago, Redman confirmed that Universal Pictures is holding the rights to ‘How High‘ and the chances of a sequel are slim. Most recently, in 2013, Method Man told TMZ that the script was being written, but it would all depend on Universal if the movie will take place.
So far Universal has not commented on a ‘How High 2’.
