Learn how to audition for a principal role on Warner Bros. ‘Suicide Squad’.
‘Suicide Squad’ may be the most anticipated movie of 2016 and now Warner Bros. is filming throughout Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. Which means one thing, casting directors are looking for actors to work on the new TV series as day players, recurring roles and extras.
About Suicide Squad:
The Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X (the name of a closely related but independent supervisory organization), is a name for two fictional organizations appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.
The modern Suicide Squad is an antihero team of incarcerated supervillains who act as deniable assets for the United States government, undertaking high-risk black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences. The group operates out of Belle Reve Penitentiary, under the directorship of Amanda Waller. The Suicide Squad’s existence helps to explain why many convicted villains in the DC Universe roam free without having heroes tracking them down, until they inevitably attempt or commit another crime.
The film is directed and written by David Ayer, and stars an ensemble cast featuring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Viola Davis. Principal photography began on April 13, 2015 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The film is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016. Will Smith will play as Deadshot: An expert marksman and assassin. Jared Leto will star as The Joker: A psychopathic supervillain. Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn: A crazed supervillain who is in love with the Joker.
Tom Hardy was previously cast in the role but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. In fact, in October 2014, Warner Bros. had offered Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith roles in the film. Soon after, it was reported that Hardy and Smith were close to signing on while Robbie was also finalizing a deal as she left DreamWorks’ Ghost in the Shell for this film.
Filming is scheduled to end this August 2015 utilizing different locations in and around Toronto,Ontario. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Pinewood Toronto Studios had been booked to start the pre-production in February, and that filming would take place from mid-April to September.
Suicide Squad Principal Role Casting Information
Due to the popularity of Suicide Squad, producers have kept a tight lid on extra casting call opportunity as well as speaking role opportunities. However, according to IMDB, the principal casting director for ‘Suicide Squad’ is Lindsay Graham and Mary Vernieu with Betty Mae Casting.
The two casting directors, Graham and Vernieu have been a part of the industry for years. Combined the two casting directors have worked on well over 20 feature films and movies including ‘American Hustle’, ‘Black Swan’, and ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. Here are three Instagram tips that can help boost your modeling career.
Instagram is the most popular social network in the world with well over 100 million users, Instagram is the perfect place for aspiring models, actors, talent agencies, and producers to connect, like and share.
Recently, StyleCaster interviewed two major talent agencies on how to use Instagram and what models should be doing to stay relevant and popular. As they pointed out, Instagram is crucial to a model’s success.
It’s critical. Social media, particularly Instagram, allows a client to see another layer of a model; their personality, candid shots with friends, their lifestyle and interests, and what they look like on a day to day basis. Social media is being used, whether we like it or not, by clients to look up a model before they consider booking that model for a shoot. So in a way, Instagram is now an extension of portfolios.
Here are 3 Instagram tips that can help boost your modeling career.
tulpahn / Shutterstock.com
1. Get more followers because Instagram Followers matter
A models social influence is powerful leverage. If a client is deciding between two models, the job will definitely go to the model with the most followers and the biggest social presence. We are also becoming smarter with our models fan data and are using this information to help clients package digital media campaigns that would target that model’s specific fans through online ads.
2. Start posting photos daily, if you’re a new model
It’s one of the easiest sources. Lately Wilhelmina has found about 3 to 4 of our top talents based on social media and yes it’s an easy source to get you to have an insight of the person. Being an ex scout, I spend times on end looking into Instagram and finding talent who can’t maximize on their potential.
3. Sexy photos are not necessary to building your modeling career. Show your personality not your skin.
I don’t think the focus should be on keeping up with over-the-top “sexy” photos on Instagram, but rather should be about creating tasteful and strong posts that reflect that particular model’s career, personality and interests. Instagram is too diluted with half-naked girls, exploiting themselves and their sexuality. We’d rather our models focus on posting about their career with new work and tear sheets, their personalities by having them share “a day in the life” type posts, and interests such as fashion, health and wellness, cooking or fitness as examples.
Actors are being discovered every day thanks to video auditions.
More and more actors are being discovered all over the world. With videotape auditions, technology has allowed for nearly anyone from basically anywhere to audition for a role in a movie, TV show, web series, or even a commercial.
Video auditions or self-submissions, have become so normal, so much a part of the casting, that many producers and directors would rather see you on tape than in real life.
But it begs the question – why are video auditions so popular?
Well, in a recent interview with the professional casting director, Cami Patton, she reveals that the HBO mini-series ‘Band of Brothers’ literally changed the way Hollywood moved and operated.
It all began with “Band of Brothers,” says casting director Cami Patton. “When we did ‘Band of Brothers,’ we were shooting in England, and we were trying to match actual people. We had a lot of biographical material. We had pictures of the real people. We had interviews with them (when they were) older. We were trying to do a service to their natural accent and come as close to them as we could. And we had to find the majority of the actors in Europe,” she says.
“(British actor) Damian Lewis had been in New York doing ‘Hamlet’ with Ralph Fiennes, and that’s how he got on our radar. We weren’t specifically looking for a lead. We really actually went into it thinking the ‘core’ guys would be Americans and everybody else could come from anywhere – as long as they could do the accent. We’d seen everybody, and he blew them all out of the water.”
From that point on, she says, it was a natural progression. “You have access to casting directors all over the world, to agencies all over the world. People’s ease with – and with being able to self-tape with equipment that is decent enough that we can actually see what they’re doing and what they look like. All of that has sort of evolved in the last 10 years to where it’s just gotten easier and easier, with every given production to be able to find those people from everywhere.”
However, does a video audition actually take away from the acting and casting process? Would a video audition be able to discover amazing actors like Leonardo DiCaprio or Denzel Washington? Maybe not. But, it has helped increase the number of opportunities for aspiring actors.
“They don’t need it to be someone necessarily that they know the entire history of. They’re excited when we’re able to introduce someone to an audience as new, who’s 40 years old, who has all of the confidence and experience to pull off the lead in a show, but just is not known to our audience. It’s not that we set out to do that, but it’s exciting to us. I think, that they’re – from a studio and network perspective and from a show-runner perspective – that they’re open to whoever is the best person for the part.”
Patton also points out that secretaries were once the casting directors of Hollywood and it was not a glamorous job.”When it first started it was secretaries who were casting,” says Patton. “And so for a long, long time, the idea was – for years and years – it was not the most respected job. People didn’t set out to be casting directors. They became casting directors because whatever it was they were trying to do didn’t work out, either acting or directing or whatever. And it took until probably 20 years ago for people to start actually realizing it’s a career, and it’s a good career, and what the demands are and what the job qualifications are in order to be able to do it.”
The 53rd annual New York Film Festival is holding their fourth annual NYFF critics academy.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center, Film Comment magazine, and Indiewire are now accepting applications for the 2015 New York Film Festival Critics Academy, a workshop for aspiring New York–based film critics that takes place during the festival (September 25 – October 11).
The Critics Academy is an initiative by the Film Society, Film Comment, and Indiewire to help aspiring film critics with the process of kickstarting their careers—was first launched at the 2012 Locarno Film Festival, and a local version was then produced that fall during the 2012 New York Film Festival. Later this month, the finalists will be announced for the next Locarno Critics Academy, whose participants will cover the 68th edition of the festival from August 5 – 15.
The fourth edition of the New York–based Critics Academy is scheduled to coincide with the upcoming NYFF, and will begin accepting applications today. Details for applicants can be found below.
For this year’s NYFF, six participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a wide variety of international cinema while dealing with the practical challenges of covering a festival at the epicenter of New York’s film culture. The participants will cover the festival with reviews of films in the selection, articles on sidebar events, in-depth reflections on the various program sections, or interviews with the festival’s guests.
“Speakers, panels, and films were all at our fingertips and it was left completely up to the me to seize the opportunities and turn them into what Eric Kohn dubbed ‘currency’ in today’s marketplace,” recalled Amanda Yam, a participant of last year’s NYFF Critics Academy who now writes for Ioncinema. “I left the experience exhilarated, exhausted, and with a sense of validation that is hard to come by in a constantly changing and, at times, inscrutable world of film commentary.”
The application process begins today; the deadline is Friday, July 31.
Accepted critics will be notified by August 10. Emphasis will be placed on a diversity of voices, backgrounds, and cinematic interests.
Requirements: Applicants must have completed a minimum of three years of undergraduate study or have no more than two years of experience creating critical and/or journalistic content about movies. They must demonstrate an interest in film criticism and/or film journalism as well as the ability to speak and write fluently in English. They must also live in New York City or the greater New York area.
Applications must include the following:
• CV: A basic one-page résumé
• Five writing samples about film. These can take the form of film reviews, scholarly papers, blog posts, college newspaper clips, podcasts, or any other work that you think demonstrates your skills.
• A 500-word statement of intent. Tell us about your background and why you would make an ideal candidate for the Critics Academy. Make sure to note any particular interests (genres, national cinemas, etc.). Passion, strong writing skills, and a deep knowledge of film history matter more than overall professional experience.

Several new lawsuits call into question how Disney World teaches and treat their employees and it doesn’t look too good.
Disney World security workers are suing the theme park after they were told to treat certain races with “suspicion”. The employees also said they were discriminated against because of race and religion.
According to reports, Nabil Boromi, a Muslim, said Arabic customers were to be followed. However, he was fired for using a cellphone at work, even though fellow co-workers did as well.

Daily Mail also reports that Camelia Joseph alleged that a white man was given a job over her even though the applicant had less education and experience.
Two security workers have filed lawsuits against Disney World, claiming they were subjected to racial and religious discrimination.
Moroccan Muslim Nabil Boromi, who worked in the Florida theme park as a plain clothes operative, claims Arabic patrons were treated with greater suspicion whenever they entered the park
According to his lawsuit he was also told to watch black customers when on duty because they had ‘committed a lot of retail thefts’.

In response to these law suits, Disney has insisted that the cases are “baseless” and without merit”. But, last week a Sikh mail delivery man won a discrimination case against Disney. He said that he had restricted routes so visitors wouldn’t see his turban and beard.

‘Orange is the New Black’s Ruby Rose explains why she chose not to transition.
The latest season of ‘Orange is the New Black’ brought a new actress to the world. Her name was Ruby Rose, an Australian actress and the Internet’s latest “girl crush.” Rose, who describes herself as gender fluid and chooses to use female pronouns, revealed that she had considered transitioning when she was younger. She even started saving for gender reassignment surgery at the age of five.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the 29-year-old actress describes a jar that she would fill with money towards surgery. “I had this jar that I would collect dollars, in fact we were so poor, it would have been cents, so I probably had nineteen cents to go to this surgery that I really didn’t know a lot about,” she said. “I think I’d seen a daytime documentary or something on Oprah and I was like, ‘That’s what I’m going to do.’ And so I started saving from probably the age of five.”
Ruby Rose came out at age 12, and embraced her identity as a teenager. “When I got to 15, I kind of decided to get more into my body and I shaved my head and my mom was just like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on right now, but if you are happy, then do it,’” she explains. “I started to change the way that I dressed and talked, and realized that I didn’t want to transition, I just wanted to be more comfortable in my own skin.”
When asked about Caitlyn Jenner, Rose said, “I just really feel so blessed to be alive and even part of this huge movement. Caitlyn, call me! I mean, I’m busy but I want to hang out! You’re awesome!”
