5 Ways Acting is Great For Your Mental Health

0

Psychologists reveal why acting can be great for your mental health.

The entertainment industry is filled with ups and downs. Actors have to go through a lot. A working actor is talking with their talent agent, memorizing lines, going to acting classes, printing out new head shots, and searching for casting calls to find the latest auditions. All of which is extremely stressful and time consuming.

But, for many people, acting is still an exciting and worthwhile career filmed with emotion on and off the stage. Here are four benefits acting adds to your mental health.

Acting Tips

1. Acting provides a challenge

According to Psychology Today, acting provides four key benefits to your psyche and mental health. The first major benefit is the challenge. An actor isn’t camera ready within a few minutes. It takes time to learn how to perform in front of an audience. Many people may believe actors are naturally talented however, many people work hard every day which can be a great reward once people see their hard work on film.

2. Acting builds relationships

By working on set, actors are able to network and connect with crew members, crafty services, the director and background extras. Working long hours tends to bring people in together like a family.

Acting Tip

3. Acting is a great escapism

Actors have the unique and great opportunity to become a cop on Monday and the President on Friday. In fact, many actors wear costumes, wigs, sets, and without people making fun of you.

4. Acting is exciting

The moment an actor gets a call back, the excitement begins.

Playwright James Kirkwood wrote“Rehearsals were days away. There is something wildly exciting about a company assembling for the first time on stage. There is also something strangely sexy about it. I can’t pin it down, there just is.” About the ending of a production, actress S.M. Stevens wrote, “When a show ends, for a few days, my body sizzles with leftover energy, like a tree in the wake of a lightning strike.”

5. Acting allows you to showcase your skills

Your friends, colleagues, and relatives all come to see you doing something difficult, exciting and entertaining. Which can help you become a local celebrity. People may stop you on the street talking about how much they loved you in ‘The Walking Dead’.

Overall, acting can be a very positive experience allowing for you to boost your self esteem, make new friends, and establish long-lasting relationships.

4 Ways You Can Transform Your Acting Career Overnight

0

Learn how you can transform your acting career overnight with these four easy steps.

Acting is not fair. It is one of the few professions where a talentless man or woman becomes a celebrity overnight while a trained actor slaves away for years and never becomes famous. However, many actors have established a name for themselves and have become working actors in Hollywood. You know who they are. They will appear in minor roles in several TV shows and movies. But, it begs the question, how can an aspiring actor land more auditions and speaking parts in Hollywood movies and TV shows? The best way to build an acting career is by copying what other working actors are doing. While studying how Morgan Freeman became famous won’t necessarily make you a million dollars, it can often help you become more successful than you are right now.

Summary

  1. Focus on what success means to you
  2. Be respectful to others
  3. Keep it simple
  4. Make sure you’re always camera-ready

1. What is a successful actor?

Do not compare yourself to other actors. While an A-list celebrity may look happy with millions of dollars, beautiful clothes, and fast cars, many famous actors are lonely and miserable. If you measure how successful you are by how much money you have, then you’re following the perfect recipe for failure. But, if you love acting more than anything else in the world, then you will enjoy the results a lot more.

Actor Tips

2. Respect the entertainment industry

Becoming an actor requires networking, building relationships, and connecting with others. Therefore, practice being a responsible professional. Show up to auditions, meetings, parties, and functions early. If you have an appointment to meet with a talent agent or casting director, show up 15 minutes early to show your level of commitment. It may allow you to spend more time with that hotshot talent agent or mingle with the show’s producer.

3. Keep it Simple Stupid

Talent agencies, casting directors, and producers all believe that time is money. The entertainment industry is plagued with emails. Casting directors are filtering through thousands of submissions. Producers are networking and planning their next production and talent agencies are always looking for their client’s next job. So, an actor needs to remember to keep it simple when emailing, talking, or writing someone connected to the entertainment industry. Next time you email a casting director, try writing only three sentences. Here’s why:

The Problem

Email takes too long to respond, resulting in continuous inbox overflow for those who receive a lot of it.

The Solution

Treat all email responses like SMS text messages, using a set number of letters per response. Since it’s too hard to count letters, we rely sentences instead. [Source]

4. Make sure you’re always “Camera Ready.”

To become a successful actor, you must focus on preparing yourself. If you have an audition, make sure you memorized your lines. If you have to learn an accent, start taking classes immediately. The best actors are those that are willing to jump at any opportunity prepared and ready to start filming.

Here are some examples of staying “camera ready.”

  1. Carry multiple headshots and acting resumes with you, wherever you go.
  2. Know all of your lines.
  3. Memorize several monologues that fit your character.
  4. Consistently check Project Casting for the latest casting calls and auditions.
  5. Make sure your cell phone is charged to answer any upcoming calls.
  6. Keep a calendar to understand your availability.

Overall, to become an actor, it takes being ready, keeping it simple, and always staying professional. Acting is not fair, and the entertainment industry is rough. But, if you never give up, then you will reap the rewards.

Batman Killed in Tragic Car Accident in Baltimore

Batman impersonator killed while checking the batmobile’s engine.

Authorities say a man known for visiting hospitalized children dressed as Batman died in a crash on a western Maryland highway after his Batmobile had engine trouble. According to police, 51-year-old Leonard Robinson was checking the engine of his Batmobile while standing in the fast lane of eastbound I-70 Sunday night when the car with hit by a Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Camry wasn’t injured. Washington Post reported in 2012 that Robinson spent more than $25,000 of his own hard earned money on Batman-related items every year, including toys, T-shirts and books he gave away to kids.

Robinson was known for traveling in costume to hospitals in Baltimore and gained national attention in 2012 when dashcam video surfaced of police pulling him over while he was driving his Batmobile.

Tracy Morgan Will Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

0

One year and four months after a devastating car accident left him in critical condition, Tracy Morgan is returning to ‘Saturday Night Live.’ The former 30 Rock superstar will host the October 17 episode of the hit sketch-comedy series, which he appeared on for seven seasons.

Morgan’s limo was struck by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike on June 7, 2014, killing comedian James McNair and critically injuring Morgan and three others. In early June, Morgan appeared on TV for the first time since the accident, telling the Today Show that he doesn’t really remember the crash.

“When I got home, it really hit me,” he said. “Every day I would just watch the accident on YouTube. One day I saw [McNair’s] funeral on YouTube, and I lost it for about a week.”

Tracy Morgan suffered extensive physical and neurological injuries from the crash. Morgan would later sue Walmart winning an undisclosed settlement in May.

The truck’s driver – who reportedly didn’t sleep in 28 hours at the time of the accident – faces charges of death by auto.

Two weeks ago, Morgan made a rare post-crash appearance, sitting at a Yankees-Red Sox game.

Los Angeles radio station pranks aspiring actors into auditioning for a fake ‘Straight Outta Compton 2’ movie.

Sebastian “Sebas” Davis at The Woody Show in Los Angeles’ Alt 98.7 decided to hold a fake audition for ‘Straight Outta Compton 2’ with possibly the worst script of all time. But, the actors didn’t think twice about it and thought the entire audition was official and legit.

The actress to be seen auditioning was an Australian actress to play one of Eazy-E’s kids. In the scene, the ghost of Eazy-E teaches his kids the importance of safe sex.

The next actor played Dr. Dre pitching his new album to studio execs plus, adding a freestyle. Finally, another aspiring actor auditioned for the role of Ice Cube.

Did ‘The Woody Show’ go too far? Maybe. But, the results are pretty hilarious. You can check out the audition tape below:

[WATCH] Maisie Williams Reveals Her First Sex Scene Was “Extremely Awkward”

0

Maisie Williams reveals what her first sex scene was like and how she prepared her cast mates in the movie ‘The Falling’.

Maisie Williams, the actor known for playing one of ‘Game of Thrones’ leading characters, recently wrapped production on the upcoming movie ‘The Falling’, a film about sexual education at an all-girls school in the 1960s. In the film, her character loses her virginity. According to her it was an extremely awkward experience.

In an interview with Vulture, Maisie Williams said:

It was extremely awkward! But [co-star] Joe [Cole] was very sensitive to the fact that I had never done a scene like this before, and it was great to work with someone who was so considerate of that. We went out for a couple of lunches and stuff just to get to know each other, and we had days of rehearsal where we’d get to know our characters and spend a couple of hours with each other. So I knew him quite well, and we got along quite well. It all paid off in the end.

She said she also served as a kind of an acting coach for younger girls on the set, since she was the most experienced actress. “I didn’t want to boast or anything, but it can be scary if you’re not exposed to [film sets],” she said. “People are talking to you and you have no idea what they’re speaking about, or what they mean. It was important to make sure they all felt comfortable, so I answered their questions as much as I could.”
