Here are 12 hollywood method actors that never break character.
Did you know Robert De Niro, Jared Leto, and Christian Bale all practice method acting?
When reality blends with fiction, it can be a problem. But for many actors, it can be a solution. Hollywood’s biggest actors use method acting in order to get into character. Method acting which was invented by Lee Strasberg, emphasizes the practice of connecting to a character by drawing on personal emotions and memories, aided by a set of exercises and practices including sense memory and affective memory. Followers of Strasberg’s technique are now commonly referred to as “method actors”.
If one listens to either its critics or supporters Method Acting is described as a form of acting where the actor mystically ‘becomes’ the character or tries to somehow literally live the character in life. Like all clichés, both explanations are false. When Lee Strasberg defined what is popularly known as Method Acting he used a simple declarative sentence: “Method acting is what all actors have always done whenever they acted well.” [via]
But did you know that Robert De Niro is a method actor? In preparation for his role in the movie Taxi Driver, Robert De Niro worked twelve hour shifts for a month as a cab driver.
What about Dustin Hoffman? In order to prepare for his role as a marathon runner on the run from Nazi spies in John Schlesinger’s Marathon Man, Dustin Hoffman lost 15 pounds (running four miles a day to get in shape for the part) and would run half a mile before filming any scenes that required heavy breathing. Legend has it that co-star Laurence Olivier quipped “Why not try acting? It’s a lot easier”, but Hoffman has since disputed this story.
Christian Bale
Christian Bale claims that the intensity he puts into his roles is partly driven by the fact that he actually has a hard time staying in character. If he didn’t embrace a role so completely, he’d be constantly cracking up, dragging productions out longer than necessary.

“I can’t really take credit for that. I read a book by professor Brian Bates called The Way of the Actor. I was really just recalling what I read in that, which is the notion that, thousands of years ago, pre-Christian for example, the medicine men or the tribal shamans were really actors. In fact, De Niro gained a significant amount of weight in order to become his character, Jake LaMotta. As a result, the actor reportedly experienced difficultly breathing during the demanding shoots. Martin Scorcese reportedly feared for De Niro’s health, shutting down production at one point to deal with it, Shortlist reports.

MTV is expanding their number of original TV series
MTV is currently expanding the number of female driven content.
The Viacom-owned company announced today that they will be filming three new comedy pilots and a ‘Girl Code’ spin-off, which is great news for a network that has struggled to find an audience over the past five years.
According to reports, the network has picked up a hidden-camera unscripted TV series from Girl Code writers Nicole Byer, who is also attached to star in one of three new comedy pilots.

The three scripted comedies include the untitled Byer comedy in which the UCB alum plays a young adult who moves to the suburbs; a half-hour from Leap Year and Can’t Hardly Wait‘s Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont about weed dealers with a smokin’ app; and Little Darlings, about two friends who take justice into their own hands.
“We are excited to be in business with some of the smartest and funniest voices out there and can’t wait to see these projects come to life,” said Mina Lefevre, executive vp and head of scripted for MTV. “These unique and provocative comedies are the perfect way for us to expand our existing slate.”
Here are the descriptions for the new MTV series:
“Ladylike”– “Girl Code” alums Nicole Byer, Jade Catta-Preta, and Matteo Lane and comedian Blair Socci take to the streets in this hilarious half-hour hidden camera prank show as they redefine what it means to be “Ladylike”. With attitude and irreverence our cast will challenge social norms and unleash uncompromising and ridiculous situations on the unsuspecting public. “Ladylike” is Executive Produced by Ryan Ling (Bird Brain Productions).
“Untitled Nicole Byer Project” – Nicole Byer portrays a young adult who is forced to move in with her sister and four kids in the suburbs after causing a fire in her New York City apartment. Aunt Nicole will offer her own brand of advice to her sister’s kids while trying to get her life back on track. Executive Producers include Christian Lander, Avi Gilbert with 3 Arts Entertainment and Nicole Byer will be a consulting producer.
“Untitled Kaplan/Elfont Pilot” – From writing team and executive producers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (Leap Year, Can’t Hardly Wait). Paige and Jordan may be weed dealers, but in their eyes they are entrepreneurs. Their dope delivery app is quickly gaining popularity with foodies, celebrities and – the most particular and crucial consumer – hipsters. This pilot takes a hilarious look at two girls living in LA: desperate to succeed, find a little romance, and keep their clients happy and high – all with the least amount of effort possible. “Little Darlings” – Created by 27-year old Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, “Little Darlings” is a dark half-hour comedy about two very unlikely friends taking justice into their own hands and kicking literal ass on their college campus. Jules comes off as the perfect sorority dream girl, but little do her red-cup-toting sisters know, she’s got a completely different agenda come nightfall. Ophelia, your everyday stoner-hacker-hellion, has officially run out of effs to give, and when she discovers Jules may be the masked vigilante exacting justice on campus her interest in college life is re-energized. Stacey Sher will serve as executive producer and Robinson will co-executive-produce and wrote the pilot.

Despite having a 40% drop in ratings during the MTV VMA’s hosted by Miley Cyrus, the network has remained the voice of the teenage and young adult generation. The Rock jumped in his pool breaking his phone but, saving the lives of his puppies.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson proved this weekend that all of his muscles are not just for picking things up and putting things down. In a very superhero-esque move, he saved his new French bulldog puppy from drowning.
Dwayne Johnson brought home two new additions to the family: French bulldog puppies named Brutus and Hobbs. Well, as soon as he set the little guys down, the sprinted towards the pool and fell into the deep end.
According to Dwayne Johnson, “Hobbs immediately started doggie paddling while Brutus (like a brick) sinks head first to the bottom of the pool.” What happened next was a move worthy of Superman. “I take off into a full sprint, fully clothed, dive in the pool, swim to the bottom, rescue my brick, I mean Brutus, and bring him back to the edge of the pool.”
Apparently the French Bulldogs were a little delirious at first, then threw up the water he swallowedand ran off to play with his brother. Even though his puppies were fun, Dwayne Johnson’s phone was ruined. I guess that’s a small price to pay for an adorable puppy’s safety.

Get ready for another reboot as Frankie Muniz tweets the possibility of a Malcolm in the Middle remake.
There are no shortage of TV reboots, sequels, and remakes in Hollywood nowadays. Now, Frankie Muniz has touched on the idea of a Malcolm in the Middle sequel – which he called Malcolm in the Mid-Life Crisis in a tweet. When asked if he would seriously consider the TV reboot, should the opportunity ever become available, Muniz said he was just putting the idea out there and see what kind of response he would get.

Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons on Fox until it aired it’s final episode in 2006. Nowadays, it is commonly known as the show Walter White (Bryan Cranston) worked on. Frankie Muniz starred as Malcolm, the gifted middle child in a family of three boys with parents played by Jane Kaczmarke and Bryan Cranston.
The show was a hit and Malcolm in the Middle won several Emmys over the years. Whether a Malcolm in the Middle reboot/sequel/remake is in the works, there is a good possibility that Network executives are tossing the idea right now in a board room considering Netflix’s acquisition of Fuller House.
‘The Legacy of The Whitetail Deer Hunter’ open casting call in Asheville, North Carolina.
Fincannon & Associates, a North Carolina based casting company is looking for teen boys ages 10 to 13 to audition for the lead role in the upcoming feature film The Legacy of The Whitetail Deer Hunter.
Josh Brolin and Danny McBride are set to star in The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter, a movie project from Scott Rudin Productions and Rough House. While the plot is under wraps and details are few on the deal, but Jody Hill is directing a script he co-wrote with McBride and John Carcieri. Shooting is set for the fall.
The movie will be shot in and around Asheville, North Carolina starting October, November and December 2015.
The Legacy of The Whitetail Deer Hunter features Josh Brolin and Danny McBride and will be directed by Jody Hill.
No acting experience is necessary.

Netflix execs say former ‘Top Gear’ trio not “worth the money”.
Jeremy Clarkson and his co-hosts were signed by Amazon in a deal that Jeff Bezos, Amazon Network exec admitted was “very, very, very expensive.”
Amazon Prime may be bragging about its recent acquisition of former top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond for a new motoring show as a valuable deal due to their loyal fan base. But the deal, estimated to be worth $250 million, which even CEO Jeff Bezos admitted was “very, very, very, expensive,” has now been called overrated.
“We have past episodes of Top Gear, so we have a pretty good gauge of what audiences like,” Netflix chief product officer Neil Hunttold online magazine Digital Spy. “Our buying decisions tend to be somewhat data-driven. We have a lot of data to get the deals we want. Clearly it wasn’t worth the money to make the deal.”
Hunt added: “There is an audience for everything and it is not up to us to judge if Amazon has paid too much or not.”
Netflix was rumored as the frontrunner looking to sign Clarkson after he was fired from Top Gear earlier in the year for punching a producer.

Georgia’s film industry helps create over 100,000 for actors, models, filmmakers, and crew.
Georgia’s film industry is growing faster and faster and a new report shows that Georgia will be the filmmaking capital of the world by 2017.
Hollywood has never been the same ever since Georgia decided to get into the movie business. With the help of a very powerful tax credit, the Georgia’s film industry has exploded to $6 billion in 2015. Now, Georgia’s film industry is ranked third in production and is on the verge of beating their competition.
Many people have tried to compete with Los Angeles’ film industry. However, many have failed. North Carolina cut back on their filmmaking tax incentives program. Meanwhile, Louisiana’s film industry is under great scrutiny with reports of an utter collapse in the next few months.
Recently, Georgia’s Gov. Nathan Deal, traveled to Los Angeles to pitch movie and TV show producers the benefits of filming in Georgia. As the southern film industry continues to crumble, Georgia is positioning itself as not only the King of filmmaking in the south but, the film industry capital of the world.
According to a new report by NBC News, Georgia’s film industry employs nearly 100,000 people with reports that the film industry will double in size in the next two years.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees expects Georgia’s film industry to double in size in the next two years. This month alone, 40 films and TV shows are filming in the state, including season six of the “Walking Dead,” and “Neighbors 2,” the sequel to the comedy “Neighbors,” starring Zac Efron and Seth Rogan.
This means there is plenty of work in an industry that directly employs 22,400 workers in Georgia and 77,900 people indirectly, according to Georgia Department of Economic Development.
This number is a lot higher than previously reported. According to a report by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), Georgia’s film industry has continue to grow providing over 24,000 jobs, 1.68 billion dollars in wages and 9,291 production related jobs.California’s film industry still reigns supreme with over 188,000 jobs provided 18.1 billion dollars in wages, and 132,000 production related jobs. However, if these numbers are true, Georgia’s film industry will beat Los Angeles by 2017.
In order to support Georgia’s growing film industry that means the state has been forced to invest in education programs using the Georgia Film Academy.
To help address the labor shortage, the state is launching a certification program at the Georgia Film Academy this academic year. Thomas said the program is a partnership with the university system of Georgia and the state’s technical college system. The academy will offer certification programs for entry positions in the industry, through one- or two-semester courses.
It will also help retrain experienced workers like electricians and carpenters on how they can employ their skills in film. The academy will help place students who complete their certifications, and for the best students it hopes to place them in work-study programs that would provide them with hands-on experience, or provide them with a chance to shadow a professional to get a close-up view of what working in the industry is like.
Currently, several of Hollywood’s biggest movies are filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Seth Rogen’s Neighbors 2, Clint Eastwood’s Sully and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Shia LaBeouf reveals his acting process and he calls it “suicidal”
When we first posted casting calls for Shia LaBeouf’s new movieMan Down, we had no idea that it would be a Oscar contender. The new movie starring Shia LaBeouf and Kate Mara is being praised as one of Shia LaBeouf’s best acting performances in recent history.
In Shia LaBeouf’s new movie Man Down, the actor plays a U.S. Marine, Gabriel Drummer, discharged after making a huge mistake in Afghanistan causing him to suffer with PTSD. Gary Oldman plays a military psychiatrist who helps him to unravel what went wrong. After returning to the U.S., he finds his country is essentially destroyed and he must find his wife and son in the middle of all the chaos erupting in the streets of America.
Man Down was directed by Dito Montiel and the two filmmakers have worked together in the past. 10 years ago they filmed A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and LaBeouf has nothing but good things to say about working with the director. Shia LaBeouf told reporters during the Venice Film Festival the following:
“We worked together 10 years ago, and that was my favorite thing that I had ever personally worked on in my life up until this film. He’s a great support structure and system. He knows how I work. He knows which buttons to push.”
“This script landed on his lap at just the right time, and he came to my house when I was at a really low place and offered it to me like therapy, like, ‘Here’s a healing process where we can jump into together and get well,’ ” said LaBeouf. “It wasn’t like, ‘Hey, jump on this job,’ or ‘Jump into this movie.’ It felt like we were going to grow up.”
“This is definitely the most difficult thing I’ve ever worked on, emotionally, with anyone, which is why I had to do it with him,” he continued. “I needed a friend — otherwise, you can’t get this vulnerable.”

But Shia LaBeouf had nothing but good things to say about Gary Oldman his co-star.
“In my opinion, he’s the greatest actor alive,” said LaBeouf of his co-star Oldman, after working with him on Lawless. “He’s my hero. I love him. I’ll do anything he tells me. I follow him around like a weirdo. He’s kind of distant and murky, like a superhero figure. One of the greatest moments of my life was being in a room with him.”

Critics have praised Shia LaBeouf for his acting in the movie. According to reports, LaBeouf took the role to a new level by expressing a huge range of emotions for the part. When he was asked how he was able to explore the darker elements of the movie he said, “Suicidal. You try your hardest, you know? You jump onto some other train of thought, or some other passion, or fall in love with another creative process and sort of find yourself somewhere else.”

Classical Acting Technique
Constantin Stanislavski created the acting technique called Classical Acting. Stanislavsky’s “system” is an acting technique that has a systematic approach to training actors. Areas of study include concentration, voice, physical skills, emotion memory, observation, and dramatic analysis. Stanislavsky’s goal was to find a universally applicable approach that could be of service to all actors. He said of his system: “Create your method. Don’t depend slavishly on mine. Makeup something that will work for you! However, keep breaking traditions, I beg you.”
In Stanislavski’s system, also known as the Stanislavski’s method, uses an actor’s feelings and experiences to connect with the character they are portraying. The actor puts himself or herself in the mindset of the characters finding things in common to give a more accurate portrayal of the character.
The Chekhov Acting Technique
Michael Chekhov was a student of Stanislavski, and he would later add to the Stanislavski’s system. Chekhov was a Russian-American actor and author. His acting technique has been used by actors such as Clint Eastwood, Marilyn Monroe, and Yul Brynner.
Between 1930-1935 Michael Chekhov worked in Kaunas State Drama Theatre in Lithuania. Between 1936 and 1939, Chekhov established The Chekhov Theatre School at Dartington Hall in Devon, England. Following developments in Germany that threatened the outbreak of war in 1938, his school moved to Connecticut in the United States, where it took up residence of an old boarding school, awarding its first diplomas in 1939.
In this technique, the actor focuses on the internal problem the character is facing and then expresses the issue in the form of movements.
“Central to his method is an image of the Ideal Actor who, as a human being, is himself a two-fold instrument. As an embodied being, he has corporeality: “I have a body.” As a conscious being with thoughts, feelings, and will impulse, he has an inner self (psyche/soul): “I have an inner life.” In Chekhov ’s vocabulary, the term “psycho-physical” is shorthand to indicate the actor’s whole instrument, which by its essential parts, is both physical and psychological. Understandably then, the first goal of the method is for the two parts of the actor’s whole to develop together in the direction of their highest potential.” [Source]
In this technique, the actor physicalizes a character’s need or internal dynamic in the form of an external gesture. Subsequently, the outward gesture is suppressed and incorporated internally, allowing the physical memory to inform the performance on an unconscious level. The Checkov Technique is a psycho-social approach to acting. The Chekhov Technique focuses on transformation, working with impulse, imagination, and inner and outer movements.

Method acting is credited to Lee Strasberg and the members of his Theater Group. For instance, actors Sanford Meisner, Robert Lewis, and Stella Adler all worked under Lee Strasberg, where they all developed the acting technique.
Strasberg’s teaching emphasized the practice of connecting to a character by drawing on personal emotions and memories, aided by a set of exercises and practices, including sense memory and affective memory.
Stanislavski’s system of acting as the foundation of Strasberg’s technique. Followers of Strasberg’s technology are now commonly referred to as “method actors.”
“If one listens to either its critics or supporters. Method Acting is described as a form of acting where the actor mystically ‘becomes’ the character or tries to live the role in life somehow literally. Like all clichés, both explanations are false. When Lee Strasberg defined what is popularly known as Method Acting, he used a simple declarative sentence: “Method acting is what all actors have always done whenever they acted well.” [via]
The method acting technique has different varieties. Overall, method techniques used by actors force actors to imagine themselves with the thoughts and emotions of their characters to develop lifelike performances. This type of acting method is common for many American actors you see on television, such as Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Angelina Jolie.
Meisner Acting Technique

The Meisner Acting technique is closely related to the Method Acting technique. It requires the actor to focus not on themselves but entirely on the other actor as though he or she is real and only exists at the moment. This type of acting method makes the actor’s scene seem more authentic to the audience.
The essential exercise that Meisner invented to train actors’ responses is called the Repetition Exercise. Here’s an example of the activity:
“In this exercise, two actors sit across from each other and respond to each other through a repeated phrase. The phrase is about each other’s behavior, and reflects what is going on between them at the moment, such as “You look unhappy with me right now.” The way this phrase is said as it is repeated changes in meaning, tone, and intensity to correspond with the behavior that each actor produces towards the other. Through this device, the actor stops thinking of what to say and do, and responds more freely and spontaneously, both physically and vocally. The exercise also eliminates line readings, since the way the actor speaks becomes coordinated with his behavioral response.”
Followers of the Meisner acting technique learn principles that help them find their expression in other people’s responses. James Franco, Alec Baldwin, and Naomi Watts are actors that employ the Meisner acting technique.
Practical Aesthetics Acting Technique

If the method acting was an apple, then Practical Aesthetics is oranges. Practical Aesthetics is an acting technique created by David Mamet and William H. Macy, based on the teachings of Stanislavsky, Sanford Meisner, and stoic philosopher Epictetus.
Practical Aesthetics is based on the practice of breaking down a scene using a four-step analysis that entails the following:
Literal – The most basic description of what is happening
Want – What does one character ultimately want the other actor to say or do
Essential Action – What the actor wants within the scene. It is necessary to understand that what the character is doing and what the actor is doing are separate.
As If – As if relates to the “essential action” to the actor’s own life. For instance:
“Essential Action” – To retrieve what is mine. “As If” – It’s as if my mom has taken away my favorite piece of candy that I was going to give as a gift. I need to retrieve it because it is mine. This step is a memory device, a spark to involve the actor in the scene. It helps the actor escape the fiction, find the truth, and apply it elsewhere.
