The CIA Bashes Michael Bay’s New Movie ’13 Hours’

The C.I.A is not too happy with Michael Bay’s Benghazi movie 13 Hours

According to reports, a spokesperson for the CIA is criticizing the Michael Bay movie “13 hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” as a “distortion of the events and people who served in Benghazi that night.”

Spokesman, Ryan Trapani, was intereviewed by the Washington Post about the incident said: “No one will mistake this movie for a documentary,” Tripani told the Post. “It’s a distortion of the events and people who served in Benghazi that night. It’s shameful that, in order to highlight the heroism of some, those responsible for the movie felt the need to denigrate the courage of other Americans who served in harm’s way.”

The CIA base chief, identified only as “Bob,” bashes a key point in the movie, when he tells the six contractors to “stand down” before responding to calls for help at the nearby diplomatic compound.

“There was never a stand-down order,” the CIA chief told the Post. “At no time did I ever second-guess that the team would depart.” The CIA chief told the Post that he spent about 20 minutes trying to enlist local security teams.

The filmmakers along with the contractors who authored the book upon which it is based, have defended the movie and its portrayal of events. It starts with a clear message by saying, “This is a true story.” In fact, Paramount, the movie’s distributors responded by releasing a press release. Paramount strongly defends the movie by saying, “The movie and book got it right. The CIA spokesman’s comments are predictable but not remotely credible.”

Paramount adds:“– All evidence — and the CIA’s past statements — points to the conclusion (included in the movie and the book) that the delay was caused by a sincere but ultimately misguided attempt to coordinate with 17 Feb militiamen. But from the guys’ perspective, based on a collective century of military experience, that was a fool’s errand because 17 Feb had failed to help Tyrone during the airport standoff; 17 Feb was on a work stoppage for higher pay during the ambassador’s visit; and 17 Feb generally couldn’t be counted on in a live-fire situation with an American ambassador’s life at stake.”

#BoycottTheOscars Goes Viral: Spike Lee Boycotts the Oscars

Spike Lee calls for the boycott of the Oscars.

The call for a boycott of the Academy Awards are growing over the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ second straight year of nominating mostly non-white actors, as Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith each said on Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend that they will not attend this year’s ceremony.

In a long Instagram post, Spike Lee said he “cannot support” the “lily white” oscars. Spike Lee said he was fed up: “Forty white actors in two years and no flava at all,” he wrote. “We can’t act?!”

Spike Lee added: “The Academy Awards is not where the ‘real’ battle is,” wrote Lee. “It’s in the executive office of the Hollywood studios and TV and cable networks. This is where the gate keepers decide what gets made and what gets jettisoned to ‘turnaround’ or scrap heap. This is what’s important. The gate keepers. Those with ‘the green light’ vote.”

Spike Lee Chiraq

In a video message on Facebook, Jada Pinkett Smith said she wouldn’t attend nor watch the Oscars in February. Pinkett Smith, whose husband Will Smith wasn’t nominated for his acting in the NFL “Concussion,” movie said it was time for people of color to ignore the Academy Awards.

“Begging for acknowledgement, or even asking, diminishes dignity and diminishes power,” she said. “And we are a dignified people and we are powerful.”

She added: “Let’s let the academy do them, with all grace and love. And let’s do us differently.”

We must stand in our power! We must stand in our power.

Last year’s all-white acting nominees started a boycott, but nothing of this year’s magnitude. Many of the boycotters were Twitter users but now the boycott is spreading to mainstream actors and filmmakers. And it had an impact, the 2015 Oscars ratings were down 16 percent from the year before, sparking a six-year low.

This year, Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has made a point of creating more diversity. However, the lack of minorities nominated for an award made her feel “disappointed” in the judges.

The February 28th broadcast will be hosted by Chris Rock and produced by “Django Unchained” producer Reginald Hudlin and David Hill. On Saturday, Chris Rock called the Oscars “The White BET Awards.”

The hastag #BoycottTheOscars has continued to go viral. Here are some of the responses on Twitter:

Idris Elba Demands for More Diversity on British Television

On Monday, actor Idris Elba will head to Westminster to address Parliament regarding the lack of diversity on British television.

The Guardian reports that Idris Elba, will make this speech in order to warn Members of Parliament “that television is at risk of not properly reflecting society.” This “lack of diversity across British television is causing talented performers to be thrown on the scrapheap,” Elba is expected to tell the MP.

Television is at risk of not properly reflecting society.”

Elba will also argue that black actors in the United Kingdom – himself included- have to head to American TV for more promising job opportunities. Elba told The Guardian: “I knew I wasn’t going to land a lead role. I knew there wasn’t enough imagination in the industry for me to be seen as a lead. In other words, if I wanted to star in a British drama like Luther, then I’d have to go to a country like America. And the other thing was, because I never saw myself on TV, I stopped watching TV. Instead I just decided to go out and become TV.”

Because I never saw myself on TV, I stopped watching TV. Instead I just decided to go out and become TV.”

Elba is one of the biggest Black British actors in Hollywood. He has worked on several TV shows including The Wire and Luther, and was recently snubbed in the movie Beasts of No Nation. But, it is important to point out that he is not the first person to criticize against TV and film in the UK. Oscar nominated for her role in HOtel Rwanda, actor Sophie Okonedo told The Guardian in 2014, “I do notice that—over the last year—I’ve had maybe two scripts from England and tens and tens from America. The balance is ridiculous. I’m still struggling [in the UK] in a way that my white counterparts at the same level wouldn’t have quite the same struggle.”

Idris Elba’s speech comes after the Oscar nominations, for the second year in a row, feature all white actors in both the leading and supporting categories. Many accuse the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as being another racist institution in America that consistently turns their back on non-white actors.

The Secret “Crisis” in American Acting That Hollywood Isn’t Telling You

European actors are taking more and more acting jobs from American actors and here’s why!

Non-white actors are not the only actors upset about not getting represented in Hollywood. According to a new report, many US actors are upset with the fact that many of the high profile acting jobs are being taken by British and Irish actors.

Aspiring British and Irish actors have always journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean in order to become famous in the movie business, but recently, there has been a growing resentment in the US acting community that foreign actors are stealing American jobs.

It all started in 2011, and many dismissed the trend as something of  a fad and will simply pass. But this summer actors and directors are calling for American drama teachers to step up their game in order to compete with British actors.

Meanwhile, in Britain, actors are enjoying the fact that acting roles are being handed to them. In fact, David Harewood of Homeland and Idris Elba of The Wire, both felt they had a better chance at landing good roles and higher pay in Los Angeles. Then, superhero movies started casting British actors bringing Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Christian Bale as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman.

Then there was the rise of British talent on TV. Hugh Laurie landed the lead role in the Emmy-award series House, Damian Lewis landed the lead role in Homeland and Idris Elba became a household name after The Wire.

And it looks like the British invasion of acting talent is never going to end. Marvel has just cast Tom Holland, a British actor from Surrey, England, as the new Spider-Man. And even movies based on Americans are casting British actors for lead roles. For instance, a British actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) played real-life Abraham Lincoln in the movie Lincoln, Martin Luther King was played by David Oyelowo and Ernest Hemingway was played by Clive Owen.

The list goes on and on. And many Hollywood heavyweights are worried that the acting industry is being given to European actors instead of Americans. Michael Douglas and Spike Lee are pressuring Hollywood to rethink the industry. Both filmmakers have asked Hollywood why their country is failing to produce American male actors for the major roles in movies and television. Douglas said at one point, “little crisis going on among our young actors at this point”.

Netflix’s ‘Making a Murderer’ Creators Are Working On New Episodes

0

The creators of Netflix’s Making a MurdererMoira Demos and Laura Ricciardi have already started working on a new episodes of the critically acclaimed true-crime series.

Since the TV series premiered on Netflix in December, “We’ve had several television conversations with Steven Avery and did record those calls with an eye toward using them in future episodes,” Ricciardi said in a TCA panel Sunday, according to TheWrap.

Making a Murderer centers around the story of Steven Avery, a man who was exonerated for a rape charge after serving 18 years in prison, then he was convicted for the murder of a photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005. He is currently serving a life sentence for that crime.

Ricciardi said that the last time she and Demos spoke with Avery, he didn’t want to be a part of the project.“We are we ready to follow things if there are significant developments,” Demos said of Avery’s case. “We will be there. And we are looking at other stories as well.”

Ricciardi also said that she and Demos have not yet decided what other story besides Avery they may want to explore.

“As we know from making this series, it’s a huge commitment that we take very seriously,” she said. “It’s just apparent to us that we need time to think about what we would want to commit ourselves to next.”

Netflix CEO, TEd Srandos, said that the streaming service is considering how to expand the franchise. When asked whether Netflix is going to keep the series going, he responded: “Well, the story is still unfolding, so we’ll certainly take a look at it.”

Meet the Netflix Casting Director That’s Putting Atlanta on The Map

0

Casting TaylorMade is turning Atlanta casting calls into Netflix movie magic.

Netflix’s new series Stranger Things is filming throughout Atlanta, Georgia and in order to get an inside look at the new series from the global streaming service, we asked Heather Taylor from TaylorMade Casting her thoughts on Netflix, and what it’s like to work with Netflix on this new project.

We asked Taylor what’s it like working as a casting director for Netflix?  Taylor responded by saying “Working for Netflix is fantastic. Netflix uses a very similar model to Feature Films, but is somewhat a hybrid between a Feature and an Episodic, which means we receive information from production with a lot of time to book in advance.”

In an industry that requires long hours and tons of preparation, Heather Taylor explains that working with Netflix is more calculated and precise which allows for her as well as fellow crew members to create a better production.
“This (and I am sure everyone would agree) is a wonderful way of working because the longer time I have to be informed on what our production needs, the more plentiful my pool of Background Performers is to pick from.”

Overall, Heather Taylor says working as a casting director in general is a rewarding process and is something should would probably not give up for the world. “But all in all – I have to say I really enjoy all parts of being a Casting Director and I am always up for all types of projects. I can work just as well under pressure as I can relaxed – when you love what you do everyday it’s always a pleasure. Keep them coming.”

Jada Pinkett Smith: People of Color Should BOYCOTT The Oscars

0

Jada Pinkett Smith’s call for a boycott of the Oscars has gone viral.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith has just bashed the Academy Awards on Saturday for nominating predominately white actors and questioned whether people of color should boycott the Oscars.

Writing on Facebook and Twitter the actress expressed her true feelings and personal frustartion that no actor of color was nominated for an Oscar this year, claiming that their acting accomplishments are often ignored.

For a second year in a row, there was an immediate backlash on Twitter following the announcement of this year’s nominations earlier this week.

People have united using the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite with people arguing against the Academy for snubbing non-white actors. But, it has also prompted a large boycott of people against the Oscars.

People are using the hashtag #BoycottOscars to tell others to not watch the latest Academy Awards.

Many people have argued that Idris Elba, Will Smith, Ryan Coogler and should have at least received a nomination for their recent works, Beasts of No Nation, Concussion and Creed respectively.

Reginald Hudlin who will produce the awards show also expressed his frustration in the lack of diversity. “In a year with an extraordinary number of great performances by black actors that were embraced by audiences and embraced by critics, for them all to get ignored is tragic,” he said.

But, Hudlin is not alone. Even Oscars 2016 host Chris Rock bashed the Academy judges saying, “The Oscars are the White BET Awards”

STUDY: Women on ‘Shark Tank’ Receive Less Money than Men

0

According to a new study, women who appear on Shark Tank receive fewer investments in comparison to men.

It’s tough enough for . And apparently, it’s even tougher for female entrepreneurs to get funding for their projects on Shark Tank.

According to Mashable, when women do receive money, female-owned companies receive far lower valuations than businesses headed by men. According to data analyzed by Rock health CEO Halle Tecco, male founders received approximately nearly $1.7 million higher valuations than women. In fact, women founders received an average of over $781,000.

This is not typically new. Studios have shown time and time again that Venture Capital firms that have a women in executive positions are more likely to invest in female ran businesses. That explains why real estate entrepreneur and millionaire Lori Grenier invests 48% of time in companies led by women. “It perfectly reflects what we see in Silicon Valley,” Tecco told Mashable. She also said, “Studies show that men are judged on their potential, whereas women are judged on what they already have accomplished. This means more bets are being placed on unproven men than unproven women founders.”

Researchers also argue that women on the show ask for less money than men. “Something is happening during the negotiation where the sharks are driving the valuation down and women are willing to give up more of their company to close a deal,” she said.

Kevin Hart’s ‘Ride Along 2’ is the Number 1 Movie in America

Kevin Hart’s Ride Along 2 dominates the box office this MLK weekend.

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have a lot to celebrate this MLK weekend. According to early reports, the Atlanta and Miami filmed action-comedy, Ride Along 2is the number one movie in America.

The $40 million sequel featuring Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and Ken Jeong is one of the biggest movies this weekend beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Academy Award nominated movie, The Revenant in the box office.

Despite, lower reviews than the first Ride Along, the buddy cop comedy is expected to make $48.6 million dollars this weekend.

Ride Along 2” centers on Kevin Hart and Ice Cube as a security guard turned Atlanta cop who just finished solving a major crime in Atlanta and is looking to prove himself to his future Brother-in Law (Ice Cube). “Ride Along 2? featured Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter and Ice Cube as the two travel to Miami to stop a criminal enterprise. Ice Cube produced the project along with Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner.

Critics were not that happy with the movie in comparison to the first Ride Along. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a 14% rating and a critical consensus of “Ride Along 2 presents a cop-comedy sequel whose well-matched stars can’t break the law of diminishing returns — or lock up a script that unabashedly steals from the original.”

Matt Bronson of Creative Loafing said this about Ride Along 2: “The studio’s strategy: Hire the same director, employ the services of a couple of the same writers, offer the same standard-issue plotting and similar comic riffs, and then kick back and practice saying, “Show me the money.”

BOX OFFICE: Michael Bay’s 13 Hours disappoints…

Box Office

Meanwhile, Michael Bay’s 13 Hours has slipped in the box office to only fourth place. According to reports, the movie will only make half as much as Ride Along 2 with only $20 million, which is severely disappointing considering Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper earned $107.2 million and both movies used the same marketing decisions by targeting political conservatives.

13 Hours centered around a political terrorist attack in 2012 against the U.S. Embassy compound in Benghazi that left four people dead including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

Peter Travers with the Rolling Stone says this about 13 Hours, “Several critics have given 13 Hours a pass, citing Bay’s skill at action engineering. It’s his failure at everything else that makes this movie as hard to endure as it is impossible to believe. #helpme”

“It’s his failure at everything else that makes this movie as hard to endure as it is impossible to believe. #helpme”

Regardless, Ride Along 2 is beating out Leonardo DiCaprio’s Academy Award nominating performance, and Michael Bay’s action-political thriller 13 Hours in the box office showing the world that Kevin Hart still makes people laugh.

Chris Rock: “The Oscars are the White BET Awards”

0

The host of the upcoming 2016 Academy Awards, Chris Rock, bashes the Oscars for the lack of having black nominees.

Chris Rock is joining the long list of actors, models, and fans that are upset with the recent Oscar nominations. In fact, when the nominations for the 2016 Academy Awards were announced many people called for Chris Rock to boycott the show. Now, the host of this year’s awards show took to Twitter to call the Oscars by a different name. “The White BET Awards,” Rock wrote in reference to the network’s annual awards show while sharing a promo for the Feb. 28 Oscars telecast.

Chris Rock Oscars

In the video below, Chris Rock provides three reasons why people should tune in, even though for the second year in a row The Academy didn’t nominate a single non-white actor or filmmaker: “Presenter cleavage,” “Check out who died this year” and “I might curse.”

But, not everyone is too happy about the upcoming Oscars. In fact, many people took to Twitter to bash the awards show illustrating a racial divide in the entertainment industry.
