Stuntmen Are Protesting the Oscars for a New Oscar Category

Stunt coordinators are pushing the Academy for an Oscar category.

Mad Max: Fury Road earned 10 Oscar nominations this year, including one for best pictures. However, the stunt coordinators who brought the movie to life did not get a single nomination. Why? Because The Academy does not award movies for stunts.

And apparently, the stunt community is not too happy about it. In fact, they will be protesting in front of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this week in Beverly Hills.

Protestors also started an online petition, signed by over 45,000, petitioning Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs for a new award category.

“For almost 90 years, the Film Academy has blatantly discriminated against stunt people and their contribution to the medium we all love and literally bleed for. There are no color lines or gender lines here. Stuntwomen and stuntmen of all walks are affected by the disregard of their significant contribution to the films we watch,”  Emmy-winning stunt coordinator Jeff Wolfe, president of the Stuntmen’s Association of Motion Pictures, said in a statement. “After all, what would most movies be without the action?”

This is not the first time. In 2011, the Academy considered the request and turned it down and the stunt community tried again in 2012 and that clearly didn’t work.

Meanwhile, the SAG Awards added stunt ensemble awards in 2008 for film and TV and this year’s winners were Mad Max: Fury Road and Game of Thrones.

“From the initial stages of designing sequences, rehearsing the action, and filming the finished product that becomes the iconic movie, the action movie would not exist without the vision of a stunt coordinator,” said Jack Gill, rally organizer and veteran stunt coordinator (Fast 5, Furious 7and the upcoming Fast 8). “After 25 years of fighting for this cause, it’s time for the Academy to step up to the 21st century and create an Oscar category for the stunt coordinators who contribute such a large part to the filmmaking process.”

Hollywood Director: Black Actors Could Not Compete with White Actors

Hollywood director calls Oscars boycott by black actors “ridiculous”.

Oscar-winning Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov says that even though the Academy Awards decided not to nominate a single non-white actor for the second year in the role, the idea of a boycott by black actors is “ridiculous.”

“Okay, for two years in a row, there was no black actor who could compete with others in the best actor or best actress category,” said the filmmaker, according to local news agency Interfax. “Things like that happen,” he went on to say. “So, next year, there should be just black actors? Then white ones will be upset.”

Mikhalkov’s movie Burnt By the Sun won the 1995 best foreign language movie Oscar. his most recent movie, Sunstroke, was Russia’s latest foreign language movie this season, but reports suggest that the movie will not win an Academy Award this year.

Also, Mikhalkov, who is one of the two Russian directors who have won Oscars in world who are still alive.

New study predicts who’s going to win the Oscars this year.

Every year, FiveThirtyEight analyzes nominations and wins for awards “that historically predict the Oscars.” As of this week, they have finalized their predictions, and they believe, among other things, that Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win an Academy Award.

In order to figure out who is going to win an Oscar, the website uses the following model:

“The model relies on the idea that the best looks into the minds of Oscar voters are the guild and press prizes that precede the Academy Awards…Oscar nominees get points for being nominated or winning other awards that historically predict the Oscars. The better a historical predictor a given award is, the more points it’s worth.”

Here are the final picks for the top categories.

Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander, “most likely the latter.”

Best Supporting Actor: Walt Hickey says, “my model says [Sylvester] Stallone, my brain says [Mark] Rylance, but my heart says [Mark] Ruffalo.”

Best Actress: Brie Larson, however he does say that “it would be shocking” if she did not win.

Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio

Best Director: Alejandro G. Iñárritu

‘Justice League’ to Start Filming This April in London

Justice League will start filming on April 11th.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League – Part 1 is officially in pre-production at Warner Bros. and will begin filming on April 11th, a little over two weeks after the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, according to reports.

“The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing,” says Snyder, who has become the creative mastermind behind the DC movie universe.“It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming,” he said. “But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”

Dawn of Justice, hits theaters on March 25th, centers around a fight between Superman and a new Batman (played by Ben Affleck). The movie also features a major role for Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), which is the first time this character has appeared in a movie in her 75-year history.

Other famous characters expected to make appearances in the movie including Ezra Miller as the Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg. However, as Batman and Superman battle it out in the main storyline, they will most likely be cameos to set up the groundwork for the growing DC Universe and the upcoming Justice League movie.

A previous Justice League movie was planned nine years ago, with Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller as the director. However, the project collapsed due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike when the script was not ready in time to start filming.

In addition, Wonder Woman was also supposed to get her own movie in 2005 when Joss Whedon was developing a movie that he planned to write and direct, but that movie was never released.

Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot is currently filming and will be released on June 23. That movie will be followed up a few months later with the Justice League movie.

Meanwhile, on August 5th DC’s Suicide Squad from writer/director David Ayer, Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

According to reports, Justice League will film in southeast England, as well as various locations across London and in Iceland. While this movie is called Part 1, the follow-up installment, which will film separately, is already on the studio’s release schedule for 2019, following the standalone movies for The Flash and Aquaman.

According to the Georgia Help Wanted Hotline, a new TV pilot is hiring producer’s assistant to work on the show.

Producer’s Assistants provide support to the Producer. They are involved in all stages of production, from pre-production all the way to post production. The producer also assigns them responsibilities on a daily basis, throughout the production of the TV show or movie.

Daily job responsibilities range from writing coverage on scripts, drafting letters and making phone calls. They may have to run an office, interview crew members, and other responsibilities. In addition, they are the go-between the producer and the post-production team, and help prepare publicity materials.

Producer’s Assistants may also be asked to assist with completing security clearances for copyright materials, arranging business materials and social events. They may also have to handle petty cash. According to Creative Skill Set, “A good Producer’s Assistant can have considerable influence on a production. In some cases, where a Producer’s Assistant has carried significant tasks in the Producer’s absence, they may be given an Associate Producer credit.”

Rates of pay vary with experience. All Producers’ Assistants should be willing to work long hours in a loud, demanding, and fast-paced environment. They may be freelancers keen to learn about the business, or long-term employees of a production company.

Will Smith’s ‘Ali’ Co-Star Says He Was an ‘A**Hole’ on the Set

Did Will Smith take steroids on set of Ali? Paul Rodriguez thinks so.

Sometimes the drama that goes on behind the scenes of our favorite movies are more interesting than the actual movie itself. That may be the case for the 2001 biopic Ali, if comedian Paul Rodriguez is telling the truth.

During an interview with a San Diego rock station, Rodriguez said that Will Smith was “an a**hole” to work with and claimed the actor took “Steroids” to prepare for the role in Ali.

Ali follows the world-renowned boxer Muhammad Ali from 1964 to 1974, chronicling his capturing of the heavyweight title, his conversion to Islam, and his notorious match with George Foreman. In the movie, Smith plays Muhammad Ali, and Rodriguez plays Ali’s physician, Dr. Pacheco.

According to the Daily Mail, Rodriguez discussed a behind-the-scenes fight Smith had with the real Dr. Pacheco during an interview on Rock 105.3. According to Rodriguez, Dr. Pacheco was “drunk as a skunk” and started yelling in Smith’s dressing room, claiming that he wanted his part in the movie to be bigger and that he would have preferred Andy Garcia to play him in the movie. Allegedly, the fight escalated to the point where Dr. Pacheco said the n-word to Will Smith before Dr. Pacheco was escorted off the movie set.

But how does that affect Rodriguez? That part is unclear as the comedian only vaguely discusses how his interactions with Smith changed after that dressing room fight:

‘ From then on, Will never looked at me the same. ’

Rodriguez also added that Will Smith “started saying just really offensive stuff to me” and that he would never work with Will Smith again after the movie.

Rodriguez also mentioned that Will Smith possibly used steroids, saying “Maybe he was on steroids or something.”

However, Rodriguez clarified that he didn’t know whether or not Smith was on drugs.

Smith bulked up to 215-pound movie role by spending up to seven hours a day in the gym.

I think Paul Rodriguez is probably jealous of Will Smith’s acting career. He was extremely popular in the early 1980s but since then, his career has dwindled to nothing but IMDB trivia posts. Whether or not Rodriguez shared the story to boost his IMDB rank, or to bad mouth Will Smith due to some personal hatred, we may never know. However, one thing is clear. After this interview, Will Smith will probably boycott all of Paul Rodriguez’s movies.

We are looking for one boy and one girl between the ages of 11-14. Talent must be Canadian and a Toronto local.

They should have a good knowledge of sports, the ability to improvise and ask questions to any sports celebrity.

Sense of humour is a must! We need individuals that are outgoing, charismatic and creative.

Performers must be non-union.

Fox’s Empire is looking for extras to work on the season finale filming in Chicago, Illinois.

Fox is now casting actors, models, and talent to work on the season finale of Fox’s Empire. Casting directors are looking for actors to play cookie’s driver, Empire employees, event planners and other featured roles.

Filming will take place between Tuesday, February 23rd and March 4th.

Here’s a breakdown of the roles:

‘The Walking Dead’ Cast PUSHED for That Rick and Michonne Scene

The Walking Dead stars actually campaigned for that final nude scene.

The return of The Walking Dead shocked viewers with kids getting killed off and very violent scenes. This week, The Walking Dead switched it up and it got sexy really quickly. We’re talking of course, about Rick and Michonne finally hooking up.

The scene was apparently a little more entertaining behind the scenes.

As the actor explains, Angela Kang and Corey Reed’s original script called for an au naturel Michonne to “cover herself” with a sheet upon jumping out of bed. “Danai said, ‘No, she wouldn’t. She’d go for her sword.’ And I said, ‘Yeah. And Rick would go for his gun. And we’d both be naked.’

“So we campaigned for the butt-crack shot [at the end],” Lincoln adds, proudly. “That wasn’t in the script. We both said, ‘If we’re going to do it, let’s do it.’”

You have to appreciate the actors pushing the limits and keeping the story true to their characters.

And while fans of The Walking Dead tend to bash the show when it deviates from the original comic book series, many fans have cheered for the latest episode with #Richonne going viral.

Wayne’s World 3? This Guy Has Spent Over 20 Years Trying to Get Hollywood to Read His Script

Aspiring filmmaker starts fundraising page to get Hollywood to read his ‘Wayne’s World 3’ script.

It has been 23 years since Wayne’s World 2 hit theaters. But, with the recent history of rebooting classic movies, it begs to question why Hollywood has not rebooted the Wayne’s World franchise.

And one aspiring filmmaker has had a Wayne’s World sequel and he has spent the last two decades trying to get someone in Hollywood to read it. Trevor Schindeler has spent 23 years trying to get Mike Myers to read his “Wayne’s World 3” script.

Wayne’s World, starring Mike Myers as Wayne and Dana Carvey as Garth, was released in 1992. Wayne’s World 2 was released in 1993. Shortly thereafter, the plot line for Wayne’s Leisure World came to mind and I felt compelled to write a synopsis. On July 7, 1993, I registered my work with the Writers Guild of American, West, Inc.

Being young and naively optimistic, much like Wayne and Garth themselves, I assumed that I could get someone inside Fortress Hollywood to read my work. Surely, Hollywood is looking for great stories. I sent out query letters to everyone associated with the Wayne’s World franchise including producers, directors, writers, and actors. I was stonewalled. No one would even read my synopsis. (Via)

Many official letters were sent, but no one read the script (you can read ). So, he started a GoFundMe page asking for $2,500 to buy “outdoor advertising in Los Angeles, California” in hopes someone will take the time to read his Wayne’s World 3 movie.

This New Study Proves Hollywood Has a Major Diversity Problem

Hollywood has a major diversity crisis and this study proves it.

 

The Comprehensive Anneberg Report on Diversity, conducted by the Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative at the University of Southern California’s Anneneberg School for Communication and Journalism, examined 109 movies released by major studios and their art-house divisions in 2014.

Here’s a breakdown of the study results:

  • Female directors are outnumbered by male directors 6 to 1 in movies and TV shows.
  • 28.3 percent of all speaking roles were held by non-white actors, which is nearly 10 percent below the United States population representation of those groups.
  • Women held just 33.5 percent of all speaking parts.
  • 28.9 percent of all writing positions.
  • Only 22.6 percent of all series creators were females.

The study examined 305 TV and digital series across 31 different networks and streaming services in addition to 11,000 speaking roles, 10,000 directors, writers and show creators, and more than 1,500 media executives.

“This is no mere diversity problem. This is an inclusion crisis,” said professor Stacy L. Smith, founding director of the MDSC Initiative. “Over half of the content we examined features no Asian or Asian-American characters, and over 20% featured no African-American characters. It is clear that the ecosystem of entertainment is exclusionary.”

“This is a landmark study,” Smith continued. “No one has looked from CEO to every speaking character across film, television, and digital content. The results speak to the landscape of media and the erasure of different groups on screen and behind the camera.”

This news comes after the Oscars backlash that had many A-list actors boycotting the Academy Awards for the lack of diversity.
