Movie Studio is Panicking Over This ‘Brothers Grimsby’ Scene

Is Sony trying to pull the plug on The Brothers Grimsby over this Donald Trump scene?

Promotions for The Brothers Grimsby maybe coming to a stop over a scene in the movie, according to an anonymous source quoted by The Huffington Post.

“Three industry sources” told the online website that the Sacha Baron Cohen film’s lack of promotion is due to a scene in which Donald Trump “accidentally contracts HIV.” Cohen reportedly has final approval over the movie, and is refusing Sony’s pleas to have the scene cut. So, because they’re “concerned about the reaction from the real Donald Trump,” they’re hoping it gets completely ignored after the movie is released.

According to one source, “there isn’t one billboard” for the film “anywhere in North America.” The only high-profile attention the movie appears to be getting is from people like Kim Kardashian.

Sony is pretty smart to be worried. It was only a year ago that they struggled through the controversy over The Interview’s killing of Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump has a history of suing people.

The film now includes a disclaimer indicating that Trump did not, in fact, participate in making the movie. “If you were told that they’re shying away from the movie because of the political implications, I can tell you that’s 100 percent true,” said a well-placed source.

But who knows! This could actually be a way to make the movie go viral. Or the movie is just really bad and Sony doesn’t want to waste their money.

Christian Bale on Playing Batman: ‘I Didn’t Quite Nail It’

Christian Bale was not too happy with his acting as Batman.

When it was announced that Ben Affleck was going to become the next Batman, immediately people compared Affleck’s acting career to Christian Bale’s batman. It’s hard to deny that during the time Christian Bale played Batman, he revitalized the franchise. But, according to reports, Bale was not that happy with his acting in the movies.

Interviewed by Yahoo! Movies, the British actor said he imagined the superhero as a psychologically damaged man but was unable to become that person on screen. Bale also said that the arrival of Heath Ledger, whose turn as the Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight won the Australian actor a posthumous best supporting actor Oscar, made him realize he could improve his acting.

“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would through the trilogy,” said Bale. “Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’

“Batman, he’s this very, very dark, messed-up character,” the actor added. “I found when I put on the suit I went, ‘I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don’t use this as a means to (show) his true, monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment.’”

Christian Bale is currently promoting Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, in which he plays an Los Angeles screenwriter undergoing a crisis after his marriage breaks down. Bale went on to say: “Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans, because I went, ‘He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.’”

Bale also admitted to “staring into nothing for half an hour” after hearing that Ben Affleck had been cast as the new Batman in the Dawn of Justice. But he told Yahoo! he would never go back to the role. “That’s enough. I’ve got nothing else to offer it,” he said. “We did our thing.”

According to reports, Batman v Superman is gearing up to open behind Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies at the US box office. Tracking suggests that Zack Snyder’s superhero movie will debut at $140 million against $158 million for The Dark Knight and $160 million for 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

However, the new movie, would easily land the highest-grossing debut for a film featuring Superman.

Report: ‘Empire’ Cast Member Wants to Quit the Show

Seems like the drama behind the scenes of Empire is affecting the show.

According to Page Six, Trai Byers, who plays Lucious Lyon’s eldest son, Andre Lyon, is trying to leave the series.

According to their sources, Byers isn’t happy on the show because he’s not getting enough attention he thinks he deserves. “Trai wants out,” says an insider. “He feels that he studied at Yale and he’s a ‘true thespian’ … The character is beneath him. He has an idea of himself as being this big Shakespearean actor.”

While Byers was excited to have landed the role on Empire when the show first debuted, sources said he doesn’t agree with the direction the show’s taking. “At first, being on Empire was major for him. But he feels his character is not as important this season, and he hates not being the star,” said a source. “He thinks he has the acting chops of Taraji [P. Henson] and Terrence [Howard]. He doesn’t get how the show benefits him, and he feels he has way too much talent when he’s not the star by any means.”

Another insider adds, “Trai threw a temper tantrum during filming in the past few weeks, saying, ‘I don’t get to do enough, I might leave.’ But producers called his bluff and said, ‘Fine, if you’re not happy, we don’t need you.’” The source continues, “He thinks he is a brilliant guy who deserves a better role, but he’s hardly one of the most popular or dynamic actors on the show. He also fired all his reps for not getting him big movie roles.”

Netflix Renews ‘Fuller House’ for a Second Season

0

Despite people saying Fuller House sucksNetflix has ordered a second season of the rebooted series.

According to Variety, Fuller House has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. The new season comes only days after the series first premiered on Netflix.

Even though many people hated the show, the show’s revival sparked a social media frenzy which most likely caused an uptick in subscribers for the streaming giant. However, Netflix, which never chooses to release the ratings for their TV shows, will not reveal how many people actually watched the series.

Fuller House comes from Full House creator Jeff Franklin. The 13-episode series is a modern-day spinoff of the beloved 1990s sitcom, revolving around widowed D.J. Tanner-Fuller, who is raising her three sons with the help of her younger sister Stephanie Tanner and childhood friend Kimmy Gibler.

According to reports, Netflix tried to persuade the Olsen twins to return to the show. “I tried. We all tried to persuade them to come and play. They decided not to at this time. We’re hopeful at some point in the future, they may change their minds and reprise Michelle. We only need one of them!”

Apparently, the Full House sequel was pitched in Hollywood for over a decade.

“I was pitching to networks that ‘Full House’ reruns were beating every night … For some reason, a whole bunch of networks didn’t understand the hunger that was out there for this show. It was baffling me. Netflix finally stepped up, and that’s why it’s happening now.”

Oscars: Asian Child’s Parents Had No Clue Rock’s Joke Would Be Racial

0

Asian kid’s had no clue Chris Rock’s Oscars joke would be racist.

The Oscars had their high points and low points throughout the evening. Chris Rock tackled diversity in Hollywood head on and despite Christian Bale saying he “loves” Rock’s performance, many people were equally offended by Chris Rock. In fact, some viewers even called Chris Rock “racist to white people.” But, one of the lowest points in the evening came when Chris Rock used Asian American kids as a racist joke. Poking fun at Asian stereotypes while three children were on stage in front of millions of people.

As it turns out, at least one of the young kids on stage, 8-year-old Estie Kung, wasn’t aware that the oke Rock would make while they were on stage would be racist, according to SFGate. In fact, her mother was not told before she signed the contract.

The joke, which was intended to mention that Pricewaterhousecoopers, an accounting firm, would be counting the Academy Awards votes came off harshly, leading many people to bash the Oscars on Twitter.

“As always, the results of tonight’s Academy Awards have been tabulated by the accounting house of Pricewaterhousecoopers. They sent us their most dedicated, accurate and hard-working representatives. I want you to please welcome Ming Zhu, Bao Ling, and David Moskowitz,” he said, as the children walked out on stage in suits and holding briefcases.

“I did wonder, ‘Why all Asians?'” she said. “But I assumed there was a bigger picture, a more complex joke given all the emphasis placed on diversity at the Oscars this year.”

Kung’s mother Laura was told her daughter would be playing an “accountant,” but was not given any more information about the scene. When her daughter appeared for rehearsal, the context of the joke became abundantly clear. “I did wonder, ‘Why all Asians?'” she said. “But I assumed there was a bigger picture, a more complex joke given all the emphasis placed on diversity at the Oscars this year.”

Estie, who is white and Chinese American, has appeared in several other TV shows and movies, but was especially excited about this opportunity. Consequently, her mother decided not to take her daughter out of the production at the last minute. As Public Radio International noted, Laura thought that Estie’s presence might at least “provoke a difficult public conversation” which “may be preferable if the status-quo alternative was to have no Asian presence at all.”

“It’s hard seeing pictures of your daughter’s very serious face on stage associated with all of this,”

“It’s hard seeing pictures of your daughter’s very serious face on stage associated with all of this,” Laura said. “It’s definitely been a damper to all the joy she felt just being there.”

You can watch the video of the joke here.

Non-White Actors are Now in Demand After #OscarsSoWhite Controversy

The #OscarsSoWhite controversy has sparked a new diversity push in Hollywood.

Following months of bashing Hollywood’s history of only casting white actors, the #OscarsSoWhite controversy has left it’s mark and it looks like things are finally changing in Tintseltown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hollywood’s biggest movers and shakers are now calling for more female and non-white actors to take lead roles in TV shows and movies. In fact, days after the Oscars ceremony, Disney announced an immigrant story Dr. Q and an upcoming young Barack Obama movie, Barry.

“There’s definitely a big conversation taking place right now in our business,”

“There’s definitely a big conversation taking place right now in our business,” says Management 360 partner Darin Friedman. “From both the filmmaker side and the buyer side, there’s a push for more diverse stories. It’s happening in a genuine way: an understanding that the cast or the directors who get hired should reflect the way the world looks.”

Even Star Wars: The Force Awakens director is pushing for more diversity. Bad Robot Productions has teamed up with its agency, CAA, and other Hollywood studios to require that women and people of color are submitted for writing, directing and acting jobs in proportion to their representation in the U.S. population.

“The Oscars controversy was a wake-up call to examine our role in expanding opportunities”

“The Oscars controversy was a wake-up call to examine our role in expanding opportunities internally at Bad Robot and externally with our content and partners,” says Abrams, who produces the Star Wars and Star Trek movie franchises along with the TV series Person of Interest and Hulu’s miniseries 11.22.63. “It’s good for audiences, and it’s good for the bottom line.”

The Hollywood Reporter also points out that two of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood right are Idris Elba and Michael B. Jordan. Idris Elba was recently cast in the Fox’s romantic drama The Mountain Between Us a lead role that was supposed to go to a white actor and Michael B. Jordan will star in the MGM remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, a role previously portrayed by white actors. However, as Hollywood is casting B-list and C-list actors for TV shows, movie studios are struggling to find more non-white actors to star in productions.

Executives and agents believe color-blind casting must trickle down to up-and-coming stars to create more opportunities for minority actors. “In film, as opposed to TV, you’re chasing names a lot,” says one producer. “We need to create more names now.”

This is possibly great news if you’re either a female or a non-white actor, as producers, casting directors and directors are looking for people like you. But, we will have to wait and see what kind of impact this will have on the Oscars and the future of Hollywood.

This news comes after a UCLA study found that films and TV shows that reflect the actual diversity of America earns more money in the box office and receives higher ratings.
