The Rock Shocks Fans With a Major Announcement

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is arguably one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood, with movies, TV shows, and managing social media all day. But in between a booming movie career, he has found the time to become a new father. Johnson made the announcement via Instagram with some help from his youngest daughter Jasmine:

“@laurenhashianofficial and I are boundlessly grateful for this blessing as this spring we’ll welcome our second baby…

“And once again, big daddy is completely surrounded by beautiful estrogen and loving, powerful female mana. All girls. Only dude. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The Instagram post was accompanied by a picture of Jasmine and a sign saying she’ll be happy to finally be the boss.

He also praised his 16-year-old daughter Simone Johnson for her role as the first Golden Globe Ambassador, former known as Miss Golden Globe. The Rock praised her early rise to help with the nominees on Monday morning:

Jada Pinkett Calls Out the Golden Globes: They ‘Wouldn’t Even Watch the Movie’

Tiffany Haddish was once a background actor working in Los Angeles and essential a far reach from becoming 2017’s breakout comedy star. But, her outstanding performance on Girls Trip skyrocketed her acting career. However, as presenters read out the names of Golden Globes nominees on Monday, Haddish’s name never appeared. It was a huge snub that upset movie lovers and industry reporters.

On Monday afternoon, after the Golden Globes were announced, Haddish’s co-star Jada Pinkett Smith hinted on Twitter that she had some issues with Haddish’s snub, but she declined to expound. On Tuesday, Pinkett Smith clarified her comments.

“I’m not upset about @TiffanyHaddish or @GirlsTripMovie not getting a nom,” Pinkett Smith wrote in a Twitter thread Tuesday afternoon, “I’m discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press/@goldenglobes wouldn’t even WATCH the movie.”

“Girls Trip was one of the most successful films this summer and Tiff was hands down the funniest person on screen in 2017 and we couldn’t get eyes on the film or a press conference,” she continued. “How could a nom happen and how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening?”

The issue centers around which movies and performances get considered. This is a point Vanity Fair brought up in a recent article about The Golden Globes snubs. “The fact that both Haddish and Girls Trip at large were shut out continues a troubling awards-season tendency—that of ignoring black art that doesn’t center on suffering,” writes Yohana Desta.

Pinkett Smith continued that the point was not to shame Hollywood but to point out that the industry must broaden “its concepts of race, gender equality and inclusion in regard to its perceptions of art across the board.”

“The fact that the brilliance of The Big Sick went unnoticed and the fact that one of the most prolific films of the year Get Out is considered a comedy … illuminates the depths of the sunken place … for real,” she wrote.

Netflix Fires Executive Who Didn’t Believe Danny Masterson Sexual Assault Accusations

Netflix’s response to the rape allegations against Danny Masterson has revealed the streaming company’s stance on sexual harassment and assault. The streaming giant dropped Masterson from The Ranch after heavy criticism ahead of the release of the second half of the sitcom’s second season. But they were far from done, dropping the executive who unknowingly told one of Masterson’s accusers that he did not believe the accusations.

According to the Hollywood reporter:

Andy Yeatman, director of global kids content at Netflix, was let go from Netflix on Monday over his early December comments, made on the sidelines of a children’s soccer game. The Netflix exec is said to have not known that he was speaking to one of the accusers.

“Mr. Yeatman is no longer employed at Netflix,” a Netflix spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday in a statement. Reached by email, Yeatman declined to comment.

Netflix denounced Yeatman’s comments when the story broke:

“Mr. Yeatman’s comments were careless, uninformed and do not represent the views of the company. Further, he would have no insights into decision making on The Ranch. We are aware of the allegations against Danny Masterson and we are following the current investigation, and will respond if developments occur.”

Masterson has denied the allegations against him and maintains his innocence and will still appear on the show through its current season and some of season three. Masterson will then be written out of the show.

According to IMDB, Shaft will film in Atlanta, Georgia. Tim Story, who directed Barbershop, Fantastic Four 2, Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Ride Along and Kevin Hart: What Now?, will helm New Line’s Shaft reboot, according to reports. Richard Roundtree is returning to the title that made him a screen icon, but not as the lead. The upcoming reboot of Shaft will star Samuel L. Jackson and Jesse T. Usher.

‘The Walking Dead’ Ratings Hit Another Low Point

The Walking Dead had an average of 7.9 million viewers, earning a 3.4 rating in the key 18-49 demo in live-plus-same day returns per THR‘s report. With details of the show going viral since the episode aired, mostly surrounding the major character’s death, the live+3 numbers will most likely rise. In fact,  Live+3 improvements have been the case recently for the AMC series, with Episode 8×07 jumping 45% in viewership by adding the fans watching on their own time reaching 10.7 million.

The Walking Dead remains the highest rated cable series with such numbers and saw a bump from Episode 8×07’s live numbers of 7.47 million and a 3.3 ratings. However, the AMC series has posted its lowest rated midseason finale since Season 2’s 8.1 million viewer audience.

Here are the rating numbers for The Walking Dead halfway through the eighth season.

  • Episode 8×01: 11.44 million (5.0)
  • Episode 8×02: 8.92 million (4.0)
  • Episode 8×03: 8.52 million (3.8)
