Audition Tips for Speaking Role

When auditioning for a speaking role, it’s important to remember that casting directors look for more than just a good voice. They’re also looking for someone who can act and connect with the material. Here are some tips to help you ace your next speaking role audition:

  1. Make sure you’re familiar with the material before you go in for your audition. This will help you understand the character and their motivations and help you deliver your lines with conviction.
  2. When you’re in the audition room, take your time and focus on the scene or monologue you’re performing. The casting directors want to see that you can be present at the moment and connect with the material.
  3. Remember that acting is all about reacting. Respond to what the other character is saying or doing when you’re reading your lines. This will help you create a more believable and compelling performance.
  4. Make sure your voice projection is strong and clear. The casting directors need to be able to hear you, so make sure you project your voice without sounding like you’re shouting.
  5. Finally, don’t be afraid to show some personality in your audition. The casting directors are looking for someone who can bring the material to life, so if you have a unique take on the character, let them see it!

Bella Ramsey Reveals What it Was Like to Audition for HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’

Bella Ramsey says she was told not to Tlay ‘The Last of Us’ video game during an HBO Max Audition.

HBO Max’s ‘The Last of Us’ premieres in 2023.

Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie in HBO Max’s adaptation of The Last of Us, said she was “encouraged” not to play the game while auditioning for the series. This caused some controversy among fans of Naughty Dog’s beloved franchise.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

The advice came from the show’s crew, “After my first audition, they asked me, ‘Have you played it?’ And I said, ‘Nope,’ and they said, ‘Keep it that way.'” She admitted that she “did watch some of the gameplay on YouTube just to get a sense of it,” but her excitement for it remains the same, “…it was such a big part of my life. I shot for a whole year, which is quite a long time when you’ve only lived for 19 years.” Ramsey also shared that her co-star Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, wrote her a card when production wrapped that read, “How interesting that something so huge and life-changing should happen so early in your life and so late in mine.” She added, “I thought it was a really sweet observation, and I just had the best time.”

The Last of Us is a project by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann. It will be written by Gabriel Luna, who plays Joel’s brother Tommy. Merle Dandridge will take on the role of Marlene, leader of the Fireflies group, while Anna Torv plays Tess, Joel’s smuggling partner. Other guest stars include Storm Reid as Riley and Murray Bartlett as Frank.

In 2023, the Last of Us premieres on HBO Max.

After her recent success, Sydney Sweeney is officially set to star in, and executive produce Sony Pictures‘ upcoming film, Barbarella.

The project is still in its very beginning stages, but the young star took to Instagram recently to confirm the news. Sweeney posted an image of the original artwork from the 1968 space opera along with captioning it “time to save the universe.” Jane Fonda played Barbarella in the film’s original release. The film was based on French writer and illustrator Jean-Claud Forest’s comic series about a space-traveling heroine. At the time, it wasn’t very successful commercially, but it has developed a cult following over the years.

Sweeney and Sony Pictures have collaborated before for Madame Web. The actress not only starred alongside Dakota Johnson but is also preparing for her next role in The Registration, an adaptation of Madison Lawson’s thriller novel with the same title.

No news has been announced about the production timeline of Barbarella as of now.

Warner Bros. Discovery Lays Off More Staff And Eliminates Departments.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) cut more staff after cutting 14% of its HBO Max workforce in the summer.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

On Tuesday, the company’s television studio (125 jobs) cut 26% of its staff across its scripted, unscripted, and animation divisions — laying off 82 people and electing not to fill 43 vacant positions.

Not only this, but the media giant closed its digital production arm Stage 13 and the long-standing Warner Bros. Television Workshop that had been fruitful in producing new talent for 40 years.

HBO Max is set to be shut down, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. In addition, Warner Bros. has reportedly made plans to lay off staff to cut $3 billion in costs over the next two years while also preparing for the merger of HBO Max with Discovery+. Chairman of Discovery Channing Dungey declined to provide further comment on the dismissals. In a company memo obtained by Deadline, he stated: Channing Dungey According to Variety, Warner Bros. is laying off staff as part of its cost-cutting efforts.

“These are challenging times in the world at large, and a tumultuous time in our industry. For this kind of change to hit so close to home is incredibly difficult. But my hope is that these changes, made with an eye to a more focused business strategy, will strengthen and stabilize our company, maintain our great creative output, and better position us for continued future success.”

The media giant reported a $3.42 billion loss in the second quarter because of several issues relating to its merger.

Warner Bros. Discovery has reduced its forecasts for adjusted EBITDA in 2022, from $10 billion to between $9 billion and $9.5 billion. It also slashed its full-year 2023 guidance from $14 billion to just $12 billion.

“[David Zaslav] has got to magically save $3 billion sometime in the next year,” Peter Kafka, the host of Recode Media, stated to Yahoo Finance Live.

“People will get laid off throughout the fall… it’s a lot of bodies that they have to process, and they have to find ways to save money,” Kafka added, pointing to the company’s falling stock price, which is currently hovering at 52-week lows.

“Wall Street is saying that the combined assets of your company and what was the premier media company in the world are now worth a lot less,” he said. “What can you do to make it more valuable?”

Netflix’s Jeffrey Dahmer Series is One of Netflix’s Most Successful Shows

The Jeffrey Dahmer series ‘Monster’ has become one of Netflix’s most successful English TV shows.

Fans of Netflix’s “Dahmer,” the disturbing drama series that stars Evan Peters as the notorious murderer cannibal, are continuing to binge-watch it in record numbers.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

Netflix’s English TV Top 10 list for the third week in a row was dominated by Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” with 205.33 million hours viewed for the week of Oct. 3-9. That means the limited series is now Netflix’s second most popular English-language program ever, with 701.37 million hours watched after four weeks on the platform, behind only Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton” seasons 1 and 2, which have each garnered more watch time than seasons 1 and 2 of Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton.” In its first four weeks on Netflix, “Dahmer” has outshone seasons 1 and 2 of Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton.”

The record for most Netflix TV hours watched in the first four weeks still belongs to “Squid Game,” the South Korean hit that garnered 1.65 billion views in its initial 28 days on air.

The 10-part series “Monster,” which came out September 21st of this year, tells the story of Milwaukee serial killer Dahmer from the perspectives of his victims. In total, 17 men and boys were murdered between 1978 and 1991 by Dahmer. According to Netflix’s description of the show, in addition to “the systemic racism and institutional failures” of the Wisconsin police, the series also explores how these motivated “one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.”

“Monster” has been famous among Netflix members — but reviewers have panned the show, which currently has a 52% critics’ score on Rotten Tomato. Variety TV critic Caroline Framke called the limited series “predictable,” adding, “It’s a grim, sepia-toned slog that rarely justifies its own existence.”

On the film side, on Netflix’s Top 10 English Films list, Ryan Murphy-produced horror movie “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” debuted at No. 2 with 35.42 million hours watched after its Oct. 5 debut, according to the streamer. Ana de Armas’s film, “Blonde,” about Marilyn Monroe, gathered17.41 million hours viewed during the week of Oct. 3-9 (and 54.75 million since its Sept. 28 release). The chart-topper for the same time period, “Luckiest Girl Alive” starring Mila Kunis and based on Jessica Knoll’s bestseller, garnered 43.08 million views (ranking in the Top 10 internationally 91 countries).

Meanwhile, Netflix users were enthusiastic about the “Conversations With a Killer” documentary series, with “The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes” (31.4 million minutes seen) and “The John Wayne Gacy Tapes” (8.86 million hours viewed) both cracking the Top 10 for the week on the English TV chart. Mike Flanagan’s recent horror program, which recently broke the Guinness World Record for most jump scares in a premiere episode, also made it to the Top 10.

“The Empress,” a German historical drama about the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, maintained its No. 1 position with 59.43 million hours seen across non-English TV series. “High Water,” a Polish crime drama, debuted in the No. 2 spot with 45.84 million hours watched. Netflix’s Korean shows were still popular among viewers last week, with “Little Women” (23.58 million hours), “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” (12.22 million hours), “Alchemy of Souls” (9.78 million hours), “Young Lady and Gentleman” (8.52 million hours) and “Narco-Saints”(7 .58 million hours) all making it onto the non-English TV Top 10 list for the week of Oct 3-9th.

Scarlett Johannson Acting Advice on How To Not Get Typecast

0

Scarlett Johansson on being ‘Hypersexualized’ and ‘Objectified’ made me feel like my profession was over.

Scarlett Johansson said on a recent episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast that she thought her career would come to an early conclusion because she was “hyper-sexualized” at a young age. The actor claimed she became so “objectified” and “pigeonholed” as a youngster that she didn’t think she could diversify her roles.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

“I kind of became objectified and pigeonholed in this way where I felt like I wasn’t getting offers for work for things that I wanted to do,” Johansson said (via Yahoo). “I remember thinking to myself, ‘I think people think I’m 40 years old.’ It somehow stopped being something that was desirable and something that I was fighting against.”

“I think everybody thought I was older and that I’d been [acting] for a long time. I got kind of pigeonholed into this weird hypersexualized thing,” Johansson continued. “I felt like [my career] was over. It was like: that’s the kind of career you have. These are the roles you’ve played. And I was like, ‘This is it?'”

Johansson believes the landscape has changed for young actors, who are no longer so quickly forced into stereotypical roles.

“I see younger actors that are in their 20s. It feels like they’re allowed to be all these different things,” Johansson said. “It’s another time, too. We’re not even allowed to really pigeonhole other actors anymore, thankfully, right? People are much more dynamic.”

Scarlett Johansson hasn’t been seen on film since “Black Widow,” although she did lend her voice to “Sing 2.” Following that up is Wes Anderson’s first project with Scarlett, the star-studded “Asteroid City,” before Kristin Scott Thomas’ directorial effort “My Mother’s Wedding” with Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham.

Music Video Acting Tips

When it comes to acting in music videos, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to make your performance stand out.

First and foremost, you need to be able to connect with the song. Listen to the lyrics and try to understand the story the song is trying to tell. Once you grasp the song’s meaning well, you can start thinking about how you can express that through your body language and expressions.

It’s also important to be aware of your surroundings and use the props and environment around you. If the music video is set in a specific location, like a beach or a forest, try incorporating that into your performance. Use the setting to help bring out the emotions of the song.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to let loose and have fun with it. The more energy and enthusiasm you put into your performance, the more likely people will remember you. So go out there and give it your all!

About ‘The Idea of You’:

Anne Hathaway Will Star In “The Idea of You,” A Film Inspired By Harry Styles.

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

The novel “The Idea of You” has been optioned by Sony Pictures and will be adapted into a film with Anne Hathaway as its lead.

The Amazon Prime Video project is based on Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel of the same name. The book follows a 40-year-old mother and gallery owner who, while attending her daughter’s boy band concert, forms a bond with one of August Moon’s members.

In September 2022, they announced that Nicholas Galitzine, leading man of the Netflix romance “Purple Hearts” and the upcoming movie “Red, White, and Royal Blue,” will play Hayes in Hathaway.

However, several other production roles have been filled. Michael Showalter, who is known for directing films such as “The Big Sick” and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” will direct and produce “The Idea of You.” On the producing side, he’ll have assistance from Hathaway, actor Gabrielle Union and the book’s author Robinne Lee, among others.

Production for the film will begin in October, as Deadline reports. Its premiere is speculated to be sometime in 2023, and will launch on Amazon Prime Video.

 “The Idea of You” Plot

The plot of “The Idea of You” is eye-opening. In the book, 39-year-old divorced protagonist Solène Marchand takes her daughter to meet her favorite boy band and subsequently falls for a much younger man: 20-year-old Hayes Campbell, a member of the band August Moon.

There are a few changes from the book to the film, such as the leading lady’s name being Sophie and her age now being 40. The movie also makes Hayes 24 years old instead of his actual age to appeal to a broader demographic.

According to IMDB, Sophie and Hayes first meet at Coachella in the film; they meet each other backstage at a concert in Las Vegas in the book.

Some say this book is “Harry Styles fan fiction.” But is that really the case?

Lee recounted to Deborah Kalb in 2017 how her novel’s lead character was inspired by a YouTube video of a boy band member.

“A few years ago, my husband was away on business, and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like…art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was, and in doing so, I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted,” she said.

During that interview, Lee did not identify the leading man, but fans speculated she spoke about Harry Styles. The former One Directioner, 28, is currently in a relationship with Olivia Wilde, 38, after meeting on the set of her film “Don’t Worry Darling.” Some signs point to their compatibility- both have an interest in acting and direction and share similarly aged parents.

In 2020, Lee confirmed to “Vogue” that her novel was loosely inspired by Harry Styles of One Direction and Eddie Redmayne. However, she clarified that it is not “fan fiction.”

“This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,” Lee told Vogue. “It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”
