Barbie Movie Coming Soon: Sony Partners with Mattel for Franchise Feature Films

0

Sony Pictures plans on producing a feature film series based on the Mattel toy collection Barbie.

According to Deadline, Sony pictures believes they have what will be the next global franchise. The studio has just partnered with Mattel on a live-action comedy surrounding the popular toy collection Barbie.

This top-selling fashion doll will soon hit the silver screen as production is ramping up.

This is no development deal, it’s all moving very quickly. Studio chief Amy Pascal oversaw this deal herself, along with production president Hannah Minghella, and this movie is getting made. Jenny Bicks is writing the script and the intention is to begin production before year’s end.

The film will be produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who are also rebooting Men In Black for the studio. The exec producers are Parkes+MacDonald president Marc Resteghnini and Julia Pistor for Mattel’s Playground Productions.

Nowadays, production companies like movie franchises. The ability of making several sequels is what Hollywood executives like to hear and after the success of “The Lego Movie” Sony pictures is confident that they can produce a live-action comedy franchise.

Gawker vs Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight”: Lawsuit is Dismissed

0

A federal judge in California has dismissed Quentin Tarantino’s lawsuit against Gawker Media.

Tarantino filed a lawsuit in January after Gawker.com published a link to his script for “The Hateful Eight.” The lawsuit argued that Gawker “crossed the journalistic line” and that Gawker Media had contributed to copyright infringement.

Tarantino’s suit contended that Gawker “crossed the journalistic line” and that Gawker Media had contributed to copyright infringement.

“There was nothing newsworthy or journalistic about Gawker Media facilitating and encouraging the public’s violation of Plaintiff’s copyright in the Screenplay, and it’s conduct will not shield Gawker Media from liability for their unlawful activity.”

But, Federal Judge John F. Walter sided with Gawker, which had earlier filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in March.

However, Judge John F. Walter sided with Gawker, which had earlier filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in March.

“[N]owhere in these paragraphs or anywhere else in the Complaint does Plaintiff allege a single act of direct infringement committed by any member of the general public that would support Plaintiff’s claim for contributory infringement. Instead, Plaintiff merely speculates that some direct infringement must have taken place. For example, Plaintiff’s Complaint fails to allege the identity of a single third-party infringer, the date, the time, or the details of a single instance of third-party infringement, or, more importantly, how Defendant allegedly caused, induced, or materially contributed to the infringement by those third parties.”

But, the judge did allow for Tarantino to file an additional amendment for his infringement claim, but it should be filed by May 1st.

‘The Boondocks’ Return with High Ratings but Leave with Mixed Reactions

0

Last night Adult Swim premiered ‘The Boondocks’ after a 4 year hiatus and the ratings were amazing.

According to Deadline, the comedy series ‘Boondocks’ wet series high ratings records in all key demographics.

Last night’s Season 4 bow of the Sony Pictures TV-produced animated series The Boondocks on Adult Swim set series highs across all key demos, including adults 18-34 (1.40 million) and adults 18-49 (1.9 million), up 50% from the show’s previous season averages. It was Adult Swim’s most-watched primetime telecast among key adult demographics in at least five years. The Boondocks premiere was the No. 1 TV program in all of television last night — broadcast or cable — among Adult Swim’s target 18-34 demographic, topping NBC’s The Voice (1.36 million) and TNT’s NBA Playoffs coverage (1.16 million).

More people watched the television series ‘The Boondocks’ than the NBA Playoffs last night. But, this is the first season without the original creator, Aaron McGruder.

Aaron McGruder announced several weeks ago that he is not involved in the final season of The Boondocks. McGruder executive produced the first three seasons the The Boondocks until the show went into a hiatus in 2010. But, it looks as though McGruder’s lack of involvement has not deterred fans from watching the series.

But, after the series premiered the series had several mixed reactions.

Season 4 opened with a “ripped from the headlines” ode to Chris Brown, with Michael B. Jordan as “Pretty Boy Flizzy,” a singer whose reputation includes robbery and beating up his girlfriend “Christianna” on stage at the Grammys. There was even a public apology thrown in for good measure: “I let my fans down. Without you, I wouldn’t even have an R&B girlfriend to beat.”

Although the show was off the air when the Chris Brown incident occurred, it revisited the events and the sentiments surrounding the incident.

Boondocks fans on Twitter quickly picked up on the Flizzy (which rhymes with Breezy, of course) storyline. But the reactions were mixed [The Roots].
