The Arsenio Hall Show is Facing a 2 Million Dollar Lawsuit

0

If poor ratings were not bad enough, The Arsenio Hall Show is facing a 2 million dollar lawsuit.

Paul Raff, who is credited for writing for Jimmy Kimmel Live! is currently suing the late-night host, The Arsenio Hall Show executive producer John Ferriter and CBS Studios over what he believes were unfulfilled promises.

According to Deadline, Raff claims that during an August 2012 meeting with Arsenio Hall and executive producers resulted in an agreement that Raff will be employed as a head writer in the show.

“Raff agreed to make Ferriter his exclusive representative and Ferriter agree to counsel and direct Raff in the development of his career.” The terms of the rep deal were put it a contract, but the pact “was never executed, so the parties operated pursuant to an oral agreement.” The filing goes on to say that “in the spirit of loyalty to Ferriter,” Raff agreed to take a freelance job writing, producing and directing clips for Hall’s website and that Ferriter “repeatedly promised that the job would dovetail into the pre-production phase of the series in the summer of 2013.” Raff claims he and Hall “completed five clips for the website, but Hall failed to shoot more because he was lazy and afraid of failure.” The suit adds that Hall “liked every bit” of Raff’s writing and that Raff in a subsequent meeting “dazzled his interviewers with his creative abilities”. But no offer ever came. [Deadline]

Raff is now claiming fraudulent inducement and negligent misrepresentation and is seeking $2 million dollars.

Producers are Now Hiring at Record Pace for Animators in Los Angeles

0

Are you looking for a job in Los Angeles? Well get your comic books out the closet because, animation jobs are on the rise.

With the recent success of ‘Frozen’, and ‘Despicable Me 2′ Hollywood is driving into fifth gear looking for animators to work on film productions.

Steve Hulett from the Animation Guild commented on the rise of animation jobs. “As more animation product is created that makes money and profits, more producers want to get into the act, and producers already in are increasing the amount of work they’re doing, so you have more work created and more employment.”

There are now 3,350 people now working in Hollywood doing animation, that is more than ever before.

But, film productions are not the only thing that producers are looking into. TV animated series are extremely popular and with the success of Netflix, more and more series are being produced for streaming.

Jobs in TV animation are also on the rise. “The work has really increased on the television side,” Hulett said. “There’s more storyboard work and design work, and it’s all driven by animation’s profitability. Animated television shows have been a great cash cow and profit stream for the conglomerates. They can make them for at a competitive price, and they have a long shelf life.” New media is also creating jobs for animation workers, he said, noting that DreamWorks is producing Internet content for Netflix. Hulett noted that the good times in animation are creating many good-paying jobs for other workers in the industry as well, including voice-over actors, editors, and sound technicians. “The growth here,” Hulett said, “is coming from all the preproduction work – the storyboards, layout, animation scripts, character design and key backgrounds.” [Deadline]

But, job security may come into question. As producers are seeking to create more animated shows, they are also seeking to cut labor costs. A lot of the frame-by-frame” animating is done in foreign countries such as the Philippines, China, South Korea and Japan. Also, with the tax incentives in Canada, many animated TV shows have moved north of the border.

Netflix “Daredevil” Series Will Be Unlike Any Other Show on Television

0

Marvel is giving fans a taste of what the new Daredevil television series on Netflix is going to be like.

Marvel CCO, Joe Quesda believes that fans will be binge-watching the series from beginning to end. “I’ve been working very, very closely with the entire team on all levels of the show,” Quesada told Comic Book Resources.

Quesda believes that his creative team are thinking about how people like to watch TV shows on Netflix and plans on developing a series structured for Netflix viewers.

“Daredevil” launches Marvel’s partnership with Netflix, which includes a total of four shows that intertwine series leading up to the huge series, “The Defenders.”

Quesda commented that he enjoys the fact that Netflix has ordered fewer episodes for the Marvel productions. IT allows for fans to sit down and watch the entire series at one time.

“Even the way that you parse out information and reveals within the show can be different than you would on weekly TV,” he said. “With weekly TV, you sit there and go, “The audience may not want to wait two or three weeks to get this particular bit of information.” Whereas with Netflix, we might be able to hold onto a particular piece of information, because they may just watch it two hours later.”

Filming for the new “Daredevil” series is set to start in July 2014.
