Los Angeles Launches New Program To Give Aspiring Filmmakers Jobs in Hollywood

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garett and Ava DuVernay announced on Monday the start of a new partnership to bring aspiring filmmakers in underprivileged communities a chance at a job in the film industry.

According to reports, Evolve Entertainment Fund was created as an addendum to Garcetti’s Hire L.A. Youth program, which connected 15,000 youths in Black and Latino communities with jobs last year. That said, only 13 of those jobs were in the film industry, so the Evolve Fund has been created to help provide more opportunities for people interested behind the scenes in movies and TV shows filming in California.

The Evolve Entertainment Fund, a $5-million initiative, will assist 150 interns for the coming summer, with the goal to increase the number to 500 by 2020.

The program includes internships, mentorships, workshops, and panels. in addition, the fund will give production gap financing to feature projects made by underrepresented filmmakers and crews who don’t have enough money to get through post-production. 

The projects will then be distributed with the help of Ava DuVernay’s distribution company ARRAY, as well as the Film Independent and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers.

Partners on the program include Sundance, Buzzfeed, Netflix, Ryan Murphy, HBO, UTA, Jim Henson Studios, Shonda Rhimes, Issa Rae Productions, Variety and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

NBC’s Chicago Med is now casting for couples in Chicago, Illinois.

Casting directors are now casting talent to work on scenes filming between February 16th through March 2nd in Chicago, Illinois.

Producers are seeking the following types:

  • Searching for male and female, 18 to 20, to play a couple who is really hurt, blood, etc., and being raced into the hospital on “Chicago Med”. You will need to be available starting this Friday, Feb. 16th and shoot through March 2nd. We will shoot also on a Saturday, Feb. 24th. You might not be needed all those dates, but you need to be available if we need you.

About Chicago Med:

Executive producer Dick Wolf adds another Chicago-centric series to his roster, this time focusing on the city’s most explosive hospital and its staff of doctors and nurses — a world first glimpsed in the “I Am the Apocalypse” episode of “Chicago Fire.” Relationships are forged in the chaos of the emergency room, where the team tackles cases inspired by topical events. Familiar faces from the city’s police (“Chicago P.D.”) and fire departments make appearances as the rich world continues to grow.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Hits Theaters in 2020

Director James Gunn previously hinted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters in 2020, but he is now making it official. In a new tweet yesterday, the filmmaker said that fans can expect the third installment in the franchise in 2020.

This means we will see Guardians of the Galaxy four years in a row. In fact, we saw them in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we’ll see them in Avengers: Infinity War this May, again in Avengers 4 in 2019, and then in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.

Marvel Studios has scheduled three untitled movies for 2020, including May 1, 2020, one on August 7, 2020, and another one November 6, 2020. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 grossed $863.7 million at the worldwide box office, topping the first film’s $773.3 million.

REPORT: ‘Men in Black 4’ To Start Filming This March

Men in Black 4 is expected to start filming this Spring in London

Last year, Deadline reported that Sony Pictures is moving forward with a fourth Men In Black movie with Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. However, this time around, neither Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones will be returning and it will not be a 21 Jump Street crossover, instead will focus on new characters.

Sony also dated the release for May 17th, 2019 going head-to-head at the box office with John Wick: Chapter 3. According to reports, Sony Pictures is considering a possible May production date in London, England.

Details surrounding the movie have not been released. In fact, Sony Pictures has not named a director or cast in the upcoming production.

Georgia-Filmed ‘The Walking Dead’ Renewed for Another Season

AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for Season 9, which will premiere later on this year.

For the ninth season, showrunner Scott M. Gimple has been named the chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe. Writer and co-executive producer Angela Kang will be taking over Gimple’s old job.

“This is an enormously important day for the entire ‘The Walking Dead’ television universe. We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction. Further, with gratitude and admiration, we also recognize Scott’s broad impact on, and leadership of, the content that fuels our ‘TWD’ universe. Together, we will dream bigger and more broadly than ever before,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “I know I speak for Angela, Scott and everyone at AMC when I say thanks most of all to the fans and the many talented people who have helped AMC play ‘Dead.’”
