‘Joker’ Director Reveals What Happened to Zazie Beetz’s Character Sophie

‘Joker’ fans continue to break down the movie, and many fans are still wondering what happened to Zazie Beetz’s character, Sophie.

Without ruining the ending, her ending is left open to the audience’s interpretation in the final cut of the movie. But now the movie’s director, Todd Phillips, has provided a definite answer as to what happened to Sophie.

The last time Beetz’s character is seen on the screen is when she steps into her living room after putting her daughter to bed, only to find Arthur Fleck sitting on the couch. It is then revealed that the romantic relationships shared between the two were all in Arthur’s head. Sophie then asks Arthur to leave them alone and not hurt her daughter. Arthur is seen leaving the room, but because the movie never shows what happens to Sophie, leaving many to wonder if Arthur may have killed her.

In an interview with IndieWire, Phillips says she lives:

“He doesn’t kill her. Definitively. As the filmmaker and the writer, I’m saying he doesn’t kill her. We like the idea that it’s almost like a little bit of a litmus test for an audience to say, ‘OK, well how crazy is he?’ And most people that I’ve spoken to think he didn’t kill her because they understand this idea that he’s only killed people that did him wrong, so to speak. That has fucked him over. She had nothing to do with it. Most people understood that he was living by – even as a villain – a certain code. We thought when he kisses Gary on the head, the little actor, and he runs off, he clearly has a code he lives by. Of course, he didn’t kill this woman down the hall and her child.”

Todd Phillips goes on to reveal he cut a scene that shows Sophie watching Murray Franklin episode with Joker as a guest. He removed it in the final edit because the entire movie told through Arthur’s perspective and he did not want that to change in that scene.

‘Scream 5’ is in Early Development

A sequel to the ‘Scream‘ franchise, ‘Scream 5’, is currently in development.

According to reports, a new ‘Scream’ movie is currently in development at Spyglass Media Group. As the film is still in early development, information regarding the movie’s cast, director, plot, or filming location has not been released.

The movie franchise was created by Wes Craven, who passed in 2015. Craven directed all four previous films, but, according to reports, fellow ‘Scream’ co-creator and writer Kevin Williamson will not be involved in the upcoming screenplay, which begs the question of how the new movie will come into fruition.

The original ‘Scream’ movie was released in 1996 and was the highest-grossing horror movie in the United States until 2018’s ‘Halloween.’ The movie centers around Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), a high school student who is targeted by a serial killer by the name of Ghostface. Prescott stars in Scream 2 but is taken over by David Arquette’s Dewey Riley and Courtney Cox’s Gale Weathers in Scream 3, and finally Emma Roberts’ Jill Roberts in Scream 4.

Could ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Cast Win an Oscar? Disney Thinks So

Disney releases its Oscar “For Your Consideration” list and it includes several major ‘Avengers‘ actors.

The 92nd Academy Awards are set for February 9, 2020. In preparation for the big event, many major production companies have started campaigning for their actors and movies. One of the biggest production companies campaigning this year is Disney. The Mickey Mouse production house is pushing Robert Downey Jr. for an ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Oscar nomination.

Disney also includes many other actors in their “For Your Consideration” list including:

Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle. The aforementioned actors will all compete against each other in the “Best Supporting Actor” category.

In the Best Supporting Actress category, Disney put forth Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson.

Acting is not the only award category Disney is hoping to win an Oscar for, ‘Endgame’ is getting pushed for a Best Picture nomination.

The nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on January 13.

About Ryan Murphy’s Netflix Series ‘Hollywood’:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix series centers around a period drama. Details about the show are unknown aside from the fact Murphy has called it a “love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.” Darren Criss stars in the series.

Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) will star in and executive produce Hollywood. “I’m heading back to the House of Murphy where I’ll be starring in but also executive producing HOLLYWOOD with Time’s King of Television,” Criss wrote on Instagram when breaking the news. “Late last year, @mrrpmurphy and I had dinner where he shared that he wanted to do a period piece that was young and optimistic. We landed on the idea of a series covering several narratives from 1940s Hollywood. We both left that evening feeling super excited about its potential. Two days later Netflix bought it. Not only is that a testament to the magic of Ryan Murphy, it’s a reminder of the kind of thing that can only happen in Hollywood…literally. Limited Series coming to @netflix May 2020.”
