Kanye West has several challenges if he would like to seriously compete in the 2020 presidential race, according to reports.
The rapper and fashion designer will have to quickly move if he is serious about running for president. There are four months before the November 3 election. Kanye will still need to register with the Federal Election Commission, create a presidential campaign, and collect signatures so he can get on the ballot next to Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
So far, Kanye has missed the deadlines in multiple states to file as an independent. These states include North Carolina (March 3), Texas (May 11), New York (May 26), Maine (June 1), New Mexico (June 25), and Indiana (June 30). That said, it’s not too late for him to appear on the ballot in other states including Florida, South Carolina, Michigan, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, etc. The deadline to register is quickly approaching.
Getting on ballots as an independent candidate still requires hiring staff or recruiting volunteers to gather thousands of signatures across the country before the registration periods close.
Many believe that Kanye is running to hurt Joe Biden’s campaign, which could shift Black voters away from Joe Biden, and support Donald Trump’s campaign. Kanye could do this through write-in votes.
Analyst forecaster Rachel Bitecofer explained to USA Today that “celebrity is a major asset” and with Kanye’s fame and finances, he could create a big campaign to definitely siphon votes from one candidate to help another. In addition, Elon Musk, the Tesla Billionaire, also voiced his support for Kanye’s campaign.
“Then you don’t need ballot access. He’s got his own fortune, his wife’s fortunate and obviously support from Musk,” Bitecofe said. “Let’s say he was serious and he put time, effort and money into this effort then it could potentially siphon off votes from Biden. It really would be dependent on that amount of effort. If it’s just a joke then obviously it’s not going to have that much of an effect.”
She added, “If I was on the Biden campaign today and this came across last night, I would definitely see it as a serious threat and one that I would want to avoid.”

It is important to note, Kanye publicly stated African-American slavery was “a choice,” is anti-abortion, works with anti-LGBTQ+ pastors, has made excuses for abusers, and is a proud supporter of Trump.
Kanye West Campaign Rally in South Carolina
Since announcing his presidential campaign in June, he’s submitted the required documents and launched a rally in South Carolina. Kanye West spoke to attendees at Exquisites Event Center in North Charleston, South Carolina. West spoke wearing a security vest and wearing a “2020” haircut for the first rally of his campaign.
It did not take long to spark controversy. At one point during the speech, he looked to clarify the work of Harriet Tubman saying, “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.” Later, West had an emotional moment speaking about his family with Kim Kardashian and addressed his past comments on Planned Parenthood.
He broke down into tears revealing about his father’s desire to abort him, and his wife having their first child “even when I didn’t want to.”
“I almost killed my daughter. I love my daughter. … God wants us to create,” said West, who has several children with Kim Kardashian West.
“No more Plan B — Plan A,” he said, to the crowd response from the audience.
West quickly clarified that he thinks abortion should be legal, but that there should be more support for those who need it.
“The maximum increase would be everybody that has a baby gets a million dollars or something in that range,” said West.
Last week, Kanye West paid the $35,000 registration fee to get on the ballot in Oklahoma. He will need several more states to reach the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency. Currently, only 306 electoral votes are up for grabs in states where the filing deadlines have yet to pass.
Kanye West says he will manage the White House based on the fictional country of Wakanda from Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ if he’s elected President of the United States
As we previously reported, the rapper claimed he plans on running for president in the upcoming 2020 election.
In an interview with Forbes, West says he wants to copy the organization featured in the science fiction Marvel movie.
Released in 2018, ‘Black Panther’ centered around the futuristic African country Wakanda.
West suggested he wanted to emulate the movie’s technological infrastructure as the country’s leader works with the nation’s top scientists.
“Let’s get back to Wakanda,” he continued. “like in the movie in Wakanda when the king went to visit that lead scientist to have the shoes wrap around her shoes. Just the amount of innovation that can happen, the amount of innovation in medicine – like big pharma – we are going to work, innovate, together.”
“A lot of Africans do not like the movie [Black Panther] and representation of themselves in…Wakanda,” he said. “But I’m gonna use the framework of Wakanda right now because it’s the best explanation of what our design group is going to feel like in the White House.
“That is a positive idea: you got Kanye West, one of the most powerful humans—I’m not saying the most because you got a lot of alien level superpowers and it’s only collectively that we can set it free.”
West also discussed contracting the Coronavirus COVID-19 and how he no longer supports Donald Trump.
In regards to why he no longer supported Trump, he said, “I am taking the red hat off, with this interview.”
When asked why he considered supporting Donald Trump in the beginning he said it was “as a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community. Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”
That said, West appears to be upset by how Trump dealt with the Coronavirus pandemic. He added that “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.” West went on to suggest he got the coronavirus in February, but is unsure of vaccines, calling them “the mark of the beast.”
“They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven,” he theorized, adding that this notion was “the saddest thing.”
West pushed back on the idea that his presidential campaign is a publicity stunt saying, “I give my album away for free.”
West said he’s running under the banner of the Birthday Party, “because when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday” and his campaign slogan will be “YES!”. Kanye’s running mate will be an unknown preacher named Michelle Tidball and Kanye says he’s getting advice from Elon Musk.
“Like anything I’ve ever done in my life… I’m doing to win,” he said, according to Forbes. West said he doesn’t care if he takes away Black votes from Joe Biden and helps Trump, saying: “I’m not denying it, I just told you. To say that the Black vote is Democratic is a form of racism and white supremacy.”
Kanye added, “I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”
When asked about his policies or plans as the President he explained, “I don’t know if I would use the word ‘policy’ for the way I would approach things. I don’t have a policy when I went to Nike and designed Yeezy and went to Louis and designed a Louis Vuitton at the same time.”

Kanye is running for President of the United States. Taking to Twitter, Kanye celebrated the holiday weekend by officially announcing his bid to become the President of the United States. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision, and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! Finishing off his message with an American flag emoji and the hashtag #2020VISION.
The news went viral with Elon Musk endorsing Kanye’s run saying he has his “full support.” That said, there are many saying it is too late to get on the ballot as an independent candidate in many states, and this time, it is unclear if Kanye’s run for president is a publicity stunt or if he can even accomplish landing on the ballot.

In relevant news, Kanye West’s YEEZY Partnership with Gap stock caused a 42% jump. The American fashion company saw a stock jump as a direct result of Kanye’s YEEZY announcement.
News of “YEEZY GAP” caused a sudden stock price jump, which added more than $1 billion to Gap’s stock market valuation, lifting it to around $4.8 billion. That said, despite the deal with Kanye, Gap stock is still down more than 20%.
The 10-year partnership will see Kanye design a line of affordable clothing to be sold online and at physical locations. Gap is hoping Kanye will generate $1 billion in annual says over the course of five years. The fashion company also said the rapper will receive royalties and possible equity for the sales of YEEZY Gap.
Several movies will resume production in the UK after the government gives permission to big-budget productions.
The United Kingdom Government announced they will be allowing a “small numbers of essential cast and crew” to travel to the United Kingdom without having a quarantine for 14 days. That cast and crew will need to live and work in “bubbles”.
According to reports, the decision is set to ease restrictions on big-budget films, TV shows, and major sporting events. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “The world’s biggest blockbusters and high-end TV shows are made in Britain.
“Our creativity, expertise, and highly successful tax reliefs for our screen industries means that we are an in-demand location that in turn delivers a great return for our economy.
“We want the industry to bounce back and exempting small numbers of essential cast and crew from quarantine is part of our continued commitment to getting cameras rolling safely again.”
The U.K. government says Dowden contacted Tom Cruise last week about how filming can continue at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
‘Mission Impossible’ is one of a few major British-qualifying U.S. productions waiting to resume filming in the U.K. In addition, Universal will resume filming ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ this week.
Adrian Wootton, chief executive of the British Film Commission, told Deadline, “Today’s immensely welcome news is also a clear recognition of the importance of the film and high-end TV inward investment sector to the UK’s economy.
“The sector was worth over £3 billion in 2019 and has a clear role to play in our economic recovery following the lockdown. While the British Film Commission COVID-19 production guidance published last month is already helping to restart production safely, this considered exemption will allow international cast and crew back in the country, and back on set, to continue work on the blockbuster films and high-end TV productions at our biggest studio facilities.”
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, California, 12 movies are set to film in California this summer and hire over 15,000 actors. The California Film Commission announced they have 12 feature films that were selected to receive film tax credits in the state with California’s film incentives program, which starts on July 1st.
According to reports, four independent movies and eight feature films were selected. Among those selected include Universal Pictures’ sequel ‘Half Baked 2’, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Bay’s ‘Little America, Fox’s ‘Lady of the House’, and Amazon’s Untitled Project starring Cate Blanchett and written by Aaron Sorkin. Other projects include a transgender teen drama ‘Moonshadow’ and Asian family drama series ‘Ashes to Oceans’.
The Hollywood Reporter reports over 50 projects applied for film tax credits from March 9th to March 13th. Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic delayed the announcement several months but, the news illustrates Hollywood is ready to get back to work.

The CW has decided not to move forward with the second season of the New York City filmed ‘Katy Keene’ series. The ‘Riverdale’ spinoff starred Lucy Hale is reportedly being shopped to other networks to keep the show alive.
According to Deadline, The CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz broke the news on June 30th. At this time, the show is reportedly being considered moving to HBO Max, which is currently airing the first season.
‘Katy Keene’ is the only current CW series to not get a new season last January. “The linear ratings have been soft but we have seen some good streaming viewership,” Pedowitz said in May before the Katy Keene finale. Pedowitz was going to consider additional steaming data before deciding to cancel the series.
Unlike other new series including ‘Batwoman’ and ‘Nancy Drew’, the ‘Riverdale’ spinoff failed to get the viewers, leading it to become the only show canceled by CW this season.
The series starred Lucy Hale as Katy Keene, a beloved character from the Archie comic universe, and her journey as an aspiring designer trying to make it in the Big Apple.
“We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving ‘Ozark’ more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right,” ‘Ozark’ Chris Mundy said Tuesday in a statement. “It’s been such a great adventure for all of us — both on screen and off — so we’re thrilled to get the chance to bring it home in the most fulfilling way possible.”

Since George Floyd’s killing, protests over racial inequality and police brutality have sparked around the world. Now, an interview with Viola Davis and being called the “Black Meryl Streep” has gone viral.
Celebrities including Gabrielle Union have shared the 45-second clip of Davis’s 30-minute interview with Tina Brown at the Women of the World event in 2018. in the interview, she discusses having the same acting career, experience and awards as some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but “nowhere near them” in compensation and opportunities.
Davis added, “But I have to get on that phone and people say, ‘You’re a Black Meryl Streep. There is no one like you.’ OK, then if there’s no one like me, you think I’m that, you pay me what I’m worth. You give me what I’m worth.”
Davis makes the point that while women in Hollywood are compensated less than men, Black women are paid far less than white actors.
“We won’t talk about gender inequality of pay,” she said, “because a lot of the women who stepped — and I stand in solidarity with them, OK — what they’re getting paid, which is half of what a man is getting paid, well, we getting probably a tenth of what a caucasian woman gets and I’m number one on the call sheet. Then I have to go in and I have to hustle for my worth. That’s what I feel like I’m doing. Listen, I have more than a 30-year professional career.”
Davis added she wanted bigger opportunities and less stereotypical supporting roles. She compared the success of young white actresses versus Black actresses. She explains, Shailene Woodley is talented but landed 37 magazine covers in one year while “some actress of color whose the same level of talent and everything who may have gotten four. And there is a sense in our culture that we have to be happy with that.”
Anthony Mackie, the actor who plays Falcon in several Marvel movies reveals in an interview that Marvel movies all have had a white production crew and the company needs to work on diversity.
Anthony Mackie recently opened up about his experiences playing Falcon in Marvel movies. During an interview with Daveed Diggs for Variety’s Actors on Actor, Mackie discussed how the Black Lives Matter movement is putting a spotlight on diversity in Hollywood.
“It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white,” the 41-year-old began. “We’ve had one Black producer — his name was Nate Moore,” Mackie continued. “He produced ‘Black Panther.’ But then when you do ‘Black Panther,’ you have a Black director, Black producer, a Black costume designer, a Black stunt choreographer. And I’m like, that’s more racist than anything else.”
According to the Georgia Film Commission, producers are now accepting resumes for all showrunner and co-executive producers. As a result, producers are looking for talent with experience in the automotive industry and filmmaking. Filming will start this November and filming in Atlanta, Georgia.

Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra announced to employees this week plans to increase diversity.
The new program is called the Sony Pictures Action and will promote racial equity and inclusion. Sony Pictures Action will reportedly provide, “provide financial support to organizations dedicated to racial justice and reform while building and expanding the studio’s internal diversity and inclusion program.”
The program will be led by Paul Martin, SPE’s Chief Diversity Officer, and Keith Weaver, EVP Global Policy, Government Affairs, and Corporate Social Responsibility, with Stacy Green, SPE’s Chief People Officer, providing oversight and guidance.
Also, the Sony Pictures Action will donate and provide through an employee match program to such organizations including the Advancement Project, American Black Film Festival, Collateral Consequences of Conviction Justice Project (LMU Loyola Law School), Community Coalition, Equal Justice Initiative, Fair Count, Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, National Urban League, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Vera Institute of Justice.
Sony Pictures Action will partner with Sony Music Group’s $100 million Global Social Justice Fund. Sony Pictures Entertainment will help distribute the $100 million funds.
Sony Pictures Action will create a speaker series and roundtable discussions for staffers and will center around leadership, partners, and talent. Virtual town halls will discuss social issues affecting employees and will expand the Neuroleadership Institute on unconscious bias training. Also, Sony will expand their Diverse Directors Program, which helps aspiring filmmakers by giving opportunities to network with creative executives, showrunners, and producers.
Netflix announces the company will donate $5 million to organizations dedicated to creating opportunities for Black creators, aspiring Black content creators, and Black-owned businesses including Ghetto Film School, Black Public Media, and Colin Kaepernick Know Your Rights Camp.
The streaming company announced an initial donation of $3 million with more to come.
“Tackling racism and injustice in meaningful ways means creating long-term opportunities for the Black community,” Netflix chairman and CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement. “The main role we play is through our funding of and member viewing of important content like ‘When They See Us.’ As an additional step, today we’re committing $5 million to nonprofits dedicated to creating direct opportunities for Black creators, Black youth and Black-owned businesses.”
