Dacre Kayd Montgomery-Harvey is an Australian actor who is best known for his role as Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things and Jason Scott in the 2017 reboot Power Rangers.
Born in Perth, Western Australia, to Canadian mother Judith Barrett-Lennard and New Zealander father Scott Mongomery Harvey, the actor has one younger sister. Dacre’s parents worked in the film industry in Australia. He began performing on screen at the age of nine and when he was in Year 12, his fellow students voted for him to be “The Most Likely Student to Become a Hollywood Star”. Montgomery continued studying acting in secondary school. He later completed his acting degree at WAAPA at Edith Cowan University in 2015.
Dacre Montgomery’s first role came when he appeared in Bertrand the Terrible as Fred. In 2011, he appears in the TV pilot Family Tree, and in 2015, he appeared in the music video for “Old Souls” by Australian band Make Them Suffer.
Montgomery’s breakout role was when he starred as Jason Scott, leader of the Power Rangers, in the Power Rangers feature film reboot.
In 2017, Montgomery joined the cast for the second season of the Netflix series Stranger Things as character Billy Hargrove. In 2019, he returned for the role in season 3.

Australian actor Dacre Montgomery plays Billy Hargrove, Max’s older step-brother in Netflix’s Stranger Things. The character was featured predominately in seasons two and three of the show. It was one of the first TV roles for the Power Rangers actor. In a recent interview with Netflix Queue, Montgomery talked about his background as an actor and how he nearly got kicked out of drama school several times and he explained why he finds theater a “draining experience” compared to film and TV acting.
Montgomery says he became interested in attending drama school because his parents had worked at the school. He says, “In the 90s, my mom did broadcasting at WAAPA [Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts], and my dad had done a bit of lecturing in the sound department there. I was just fascinated by it. My high school was on the same campus, so every day I had to walk through this renowned drama school. I’m not going to lie to you: I think there are a lot of ups and downs about drama school. The first year, I got asked to leave the course three times.”

In regards to why he asked to leave the school three times in his first semester, Montgomery talked about his poor attitude and inability to be a good student. He says: “I had spent so long manifesting this idea that I wanted to go to drama school, and once I was there, I was maybe a little bit arrogant. I didn’t want to learn Feldenkrais, I didn’t want to learn these multiple vocal techniques. There was a lot of stuff going on in my life: I got fired from my job, my girlfriend and I went on a break — all this stuff happened at the end of first year. The staff said, ‘Look, if you want to come back here after the summer, you’ve got to think long and hard about what you’re capable of.’ So I thought long and hard, and I came back, and we had our first public plays, and it was amazing. We did The Grapes of Wrath, Measure for Measure, a couple of contemporary plays — Punk Rock, The Golden Age. I loved it. I booked my first professional role on my 21st birthday. That was two weeks before I finished WAAPA.”
Montgomery worked in the film industry ever since. However, he does not rule out the possibility of returning to theater at one point. He says what he gets out of performing ons tase that he does not get from performing on a set.“In film and television, you rarely have the time to rock up on set and extrapolate on the character, the world, the ideas presented, or the meaning behind the story with the director and the other actors. That’s what I like about theater. I just struggle with nerves; I always have. That’s why I find it hard to audition in person. Theater, for me . . . Even if we’re two weeks into a production and we’ve been performing to live audiences for two weeks, I’ll drill the whole play’s worth of lines about five times before I start every single night. It’s quite a draining experience, but amazing.”
Montgomery also shares some details about his acting process including arriving on set early. He explains, “Once I’ve left set, I’m gone. There are some pretty intense moments with Billy in Stranger Things, and I can’t leave with the character, so I’ll come to set eight hours before call, and I’ll just pace the soundstage for hours, get in the world. No one else is around me. Then when I walk on set, there’s no prep.”

In addition to acting, Montgomery enjoys playing video games, going to the beach, and spending time with friends. He is also very passionate about environmentalism and animal rights, and has been actively campaigning for both causes since 2018. He is a strong advocate for mental health awareness and has shared his own personal struggles with depression in various interviews.
In 2020, Montgomery released an EP titled Am I Savage? which he wrote, produced and recorded himself, in addition to directing the accompanying music video. The EP was his first foray into music and received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike.
Montgomery is considered one of the biggest up-and-coming actor/musicians of 2020 and has already established a large and dedicated fan base that continues to grow. He is set to continue his successful acting career and will no doubt be seen in many more films and television series for years to come.
He also recently opened up about his experience as an actor of color in Hollywood, expressing his desire for more opportunities for actors from diverse backgrounds. Montgomery is an inspiration to many and is considered a role model for his activism, self-expression, and love of the arts. He has a bright future ahead of him and no doubt will continue to make a positive impact for years to come.
The Amazing Stories Foundation is working with WarnerMedia for the Film and TV apprenticeship Program.
The upcoming program is paid training for adult career seekers looking for full-time opportunities in Georgia’s film and TV workforce. The program will start on Monday, October 26th in East Point, Georgia for adults ages 24 and up. In response to the lack of diversity on productions, the Amazing Stories Foundation was started by Rob Hardy, a producer, director, and owner of Rainforest Entertainment, as a way to train diverse talent. He based the apprenticeship program in Atlanta to use Georgia’s growing entertainment industry and build a pipeline of highly qualified talent to work in the TV and film industry.
In the first season of the Amazing Stories Foundation, the pilot season trained 14 production assistants who gained work on experience not he sets of various shows including WarnerMedia’s “Black Lightning” (CW), “Dynasty” (CW), “Legacies” (CW) and “Lovecraft Country” (HBO). More than 86% of past participants were employed by productions based in the Atlanta area within the first three months.
The new partnership with WarnerMedia will give Amazing Stories Foundation apprentices training and placement through WarnerMedia’s Access to Action, a program that provides opportunities to communities who do not have a traditionally direct pathway to the entertainment industry. It was created to help a more creative and inclusive workforce through production assistant jobs on TV shows and movie productions.
Applicants must live in the metro Atlanta area with reliable transportation and open availability for full-time employment after completing the classroom training located in East Point, GA. The application deadline is Thursday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
In relevant news, Devotion starring Jonathan Majors is now hiring crew in Savannah, Georgia. According to Variety, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell of the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up will star in Devotion. The upcoming feature film is based on the 2014 nonfiction book of the same name by author Adam Makos. The duo will play Jesse LeRoy Brown and Tom Hudner respectively, two “elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots who form a firm friendship” while in the service. J.D. Dillard will direct the movie. He previously directed Sweetheart in 2019 and Sleight in 2016. Producers are now accepting submissions for all production jobs and crew positions. Filming is set to begin in early February 2021 and will continue through late April 2021. Preproduction starts on October 19th.

“Earlier this week, I was let go from 7 News,” Pinto tweeted Thursday. “I am posting this because I want to be open and honest with all of you. Last year, I participated in a cameo in the recently released Netflix movie by Adam Sandler, ‘Hubie Halloween.’” The film was released on October 7 on the streaming platform.
Apparently, her appearance was a violation of Pinto’s contract, which she said she “mistakenly violated.”
“I am deeply disappointed and saddened, and I hoped this would not be how things evolved,” Pinto wrote. “Thanks to all my wonderful 7 News viewers and my supportive and great colleagues at the station.”
The movie centers on October 31st in Salem, Massachusetts. Sandler finds himself in the middle of a real murder investigation. Pinto played a news anchor for a fictional Boston TV station. The cameo shows Pinto talking about the Salem Halloween festivities while dressed as DC Comics character Harley Quinn.
Deadline reports Netflix’s Idris Ebla western The Harder They Fall shut down production after an actor tested positive for Coronavirus COVID-19. Production stopped on Thursday, continued into Friday, and it is currently unclear when filming will resume. Production for the Netflix production started about five weeks ago.
For TV shows and movie productions, it is currently not uncommon to encounter COVID-19 cases. COVID-19 cases have forced some productions to stop, while others can continue shooting. For example, Jurassic World: Dominion had to shut down due to positive COVID-19 cases, but due to effective planning and keeping on-set workers separate from other units, a second unit remained at work.
Idris Elba was one of the first actors to say he got the Coronavirus COVID-19 during the start of the pandemic. The Harder They Fall production was supposed to start back in mid-March but shut down due to safety precautions.
The Harder They Fall centers around an outlaw who discovers the man who killed his parents has been released from prison. He joins up with others to help him as he seeks revenge. Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, LaKeith Stanfield, and Delroy Lindo star in the movie.
AMC, the largest cinema chain in the United States said in June it could go out of business after a record $2.4 billion loss in the first quarter of the year.
“Cinemas are an essential industry that represents the best that American talent and creativity have to offer. But now we fear for their future,” the letter began, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Details for the production have not been released. However, Disney+ is now filming “Architect” in Atlanta, Georgia. According to reports, “Architect” is the working title for the upcoming LOKI TV series. The upcoming Disney+ series will star Tom Hiddleston as he reprises his role as the Asgardian trickster god, Loki. The limited series will center around Loki as his version from the record-breaking 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame, who used the Space Stone to escape his capture by the Avengers.
Feldstein Paris Company is known for casting some of the biggest movies including Guardians of the Galaxy, Stranger Things, Logan Lucky, The Darkest Minds, and many more. According to Tara Feldstein’s IMDB page, she has a “keen eye for talent and tireless devotion to her craft has allowed her to become one of the youngest and most successful casting directors in the region.”
This news comes after Disney announced a reorganization and focus on streaming.Disney is making a calculated move toward streaming. “I would not characterize it as a response to COVID,” CEO Bob Chapek told CNBC. “I would say COVID accelerated the rate at which we made this transition, but this transition was going to happen anyway.”
Recently, Disney pushed its theatrical releases, including Marvel’s Black Widow, to next year. Mulan dropped online, without impacting sales, the studio plans on doing the same thing with Pixar film Soul, which will now hit theaters on Disney+ in December.
