Lionsgate’s ‘White Bird’ Acting Auditions and Casting Calls for Lead Speaking Roles

Lionsgate’s White Bird is now casting and hiring actors for lead roles.

About White Bird:

Wonder Producers Lionsgate and Mandeville Films are teaming up for another movie adaptation based on R.J. Palacio’s novel, White Bird: A Wonder Story.

Palacio’s Wonder earned a worldwide box office gross of $305 million as a movie starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. Lionsgate is developing the White Bird movie adaptation, and Mandeville Film’s David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce alongside Palacio.

The acquisition and movie development deal was announced Tuesday by Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. White Bird, the fourth movie in Palacio’s Wonder series and her first graphic novel, centers on the fictional story of the grandmother of Julian, the boy who bullied Aggie Pullman in the original Wonder novel and is set in Nazi-occupied France during the Second World War.

As told by the grandmother to Julian, her grandson, a great life before the war for a young Jewish girl is turned upside down by the Nazi occupation and a boy she and her classmates once shunned her becomes her savior and best friend.

Blackhall Studios Plans Major Expansion in Atlanta

Blackhall Studios is planning a major 40-acre expansion in Atlanta, Georgia.

Blackhall Studios are the filming locations, including Venom, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Millie Bobby Brown’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Now, the Atlanta film studio is planning a major expansion.

The Dekalb County Commission has voted to deliver green space to allow Blackhall Studio to expand and become one of America’s largest movie studios.

The studio’s owner Ryan Millsap is creating a plan to become a movie industry leader as he hopes to expand his current production facilities. Currently, Blackhall studios are 150 acres across two campuses, and the new expansion will increase the studio by another 40 acres.

Commissioner Larry Johnson reportedly outlined how the expansion would provide economic advancement for neighborhoods and new careers and people opportunities.

In relevant news, Pinewood Atlanta Studios is now Trilith Studios.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios is the home to some of the biggest movies, including Avengers: Endgame, and Pinewood Forest, a 200+ acre mixed-use development. Now, the two facilities are joining as one and rebranding as “Trilith.”

According to a press release, the new 935-acre master development includes the studio, which is now called Trilith Studios, business, homes, restaurants, and schools, all aimed at the film industry.

Trilith, which, according to the press release, means “conjures the iconic three-stone structure of Stonehenge, is emblematic of the three pillars of creativity behind it: storytelling, purpose-built places, and emerging technology.”

“A trilith is an appropriate symbol for our new identity as it represents a nod to our U.K. history while serving as a metaphor for the three pillars of our vision,” Frank Patterson, president, and CEO of Trilith Studios, LLC, said in the release. “The new Trilith Studios brand signals to the entertainment industry our expansion from a facilities business to an ecosystem intentionally built for the creative industries.”

Marvel’s ‘Blade’ is Looking for Writers (Report)

Marvel’s Blade is reportedly looking for writers and black filmmakers.

Marvel Studios has not released any press releases about Blade since they announced Mahershala Ali was cast for the lead role at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. The movie currently does not have a release date, and Ali’s debut remains to be seen. According to reports, the Blade movie is still in its earliest development stages and does not have a writing team yet. However, Blade is currently looking for writers to make the movie, and Marvel Studios is especially looking for Black filmmakers to work behind the camera.

“Current projects that studios are hoping to populate with Black behind-the-camera talent include Marvel’s Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali, which is looking for writers,” THR reports. Marvel has been actively seeking more diverse routes to fill out casts and crews.

There are no reports on whether or not the movie will hit theaters within the next two years. Still, as Marvel Studios is currently recruiting creative talent to make the movie, it’s not unrealistic the movie is coming sooner than later.

Blade Became famous to mainstream audiences after Wesley Snipes played a role in a trilogy of films. Released in 1998, the movie was a commercial success grossing $70 million at the U.S. box office and $131.2 million worldwide. The success of Blade started Marvel cinematic success and set the stage for more comic book film adaptations.

In relevant news, Disney announces a new strategic reorganization with a deeper focus on streaming. The Coronavirus COVID-19 is destroying small businesses, families, and now the entertainment industry. As Hollywood is figuring out how to deal with the new business landscape, Disney chooses to focus on streaming over everything else.

To speed its direct-to-consumer strategy, Disney will be combining its media business into a single organization, which will be responsible for content distribution, ad sales, and Disney+. The new business structure means Disney will be making steaming content its priority. COVID-19 has crippled the box office business and pushed more customers towards streaming platforms. The paradigm shift is changing the way Hollywood should think about entertainment.

“Under the new structure, the focus will be on developing and producing original content for the company’s streaming services, as well as for legacy platforms. Distribution and commercialization will be centralized into a single, global Media and Entertainment Distribution unit led by Kareem Daniel, formerly president of consumer products, games, and publishing,” Deadline explains.

Inspired by the 2014 UK reality series Big Ballet, which is about 18 plus-size amateur dancers recruited to put together a production of Swan Lake, The Big Leap first landed at ABC for the 2015-16 developement season in a competitive situation. The TV series is a co-production between 20th Century FOX Television, now part of Disney TV Studios, and FOX Entertainment.

What is the show about?

Script Synopsis via Primetimer:

Once a promising dancer, an unplanned pregnancy forced GABBY TAYLOR (26) to give up on her dreams and a college dance scholarship. She now lives at home with her mother GINA (50s) and her seven-year-old son SAM. Separately, MIKE DEVRIES (late 30s) is on the verge of a breakdown; his marriage is failing and he just lost his job. Meanwhile, JULIA TORRANCE (50s) is consumed with keeping up appearances on social media but is distanced from her husband and kids.

As we meet each of these characters, we see several ads for THE BIG LEAP – “A Reality Show for Amateur Dancers”. Against the advice of Gabby’s mother, Mike’s friends, and Julia’s family, they all audition. Gabby convinces her former high school dance partner JUSTIN REYES (20s) to join her. At the auditions, Julia and Mike advance with ease. Gabby falls, and Justin advances without her.

At the behest of her mother, Gabby agrees to coach another dancer still in contention for the show — star football player REGGIE SADLER (20s), who just suffered a career-ending concussion. They become close during their practice sessions until Reggie lands in jail after a confrontation with some dudes who insult his career and Gabbys’ weight. Meanwhile, a run-in with Mike’s ex leads him to binge drink, and Julia discovers her husband’s trove of internet porn and wallows in self-pity.

With a little help from their friends, Mike and Julia both manage to bounce back, while Reggie shows up just in time to lift Gabby (for the first time in her life), and for her to fall for him completely. Everyone makes it onto the show.

Backstage, though, a devilish producer, NICK SMART (40s), reveals how the whole show is going to be about digging up each of its dancers biggest secrets and revealing them on television…
