Netflix Cancels ‘V-Wars’ and ‘October Faction’

Netflix cancels two brand-new series after only one season.

If you thoroughly enjoyed the recently-released Netflix original series ‘V-Wars’ or ‘October Faction,’ then I have bad news for you. Both of those series have been canceled, according to Variety. Neither of those shows was on the streaming service for more than four months.

‘V-Wars’ first debuted in early December and is based on the IDW comic series of the same name. The Netflix original series follows Dr. Luther Swann and his friend Michael Fayne, as they handle the deadly outbreak, which turns people into vampires. As the outbreak spreads, a war starts between humans and vampires. The series starred ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes, and the first season consisted of 10 episodes.

‘October Faction’ was canceled after debuting in January. The series centers around a couple, Fred and Deloris Allen, who spend their time hunting monsters, and they become members of a secret organization. Starring Tamara Taylor and J.C. MacKenzie, the first season consisted of 10 episodes

In relevant news, fans think a Netflix show predicted the Coronavirus outbreak. Netflix’s ‘My Secret Terrius’ is a 2018 TV series that is going viral after it mentioned Coronavirus in one of the show’s episodes.

In the scene, one character warns another not to leave her home. Then, we see a doctor and another character talking about coronaviruses, mentioning that MERS had a fatality rate of 20%. The doctor then says, “As I said, this is a mutant virus. Someone tweaked it to increase the mortality rate to almost 90 percent… What’s more serious is that the Coronavirus has an incubation … of two to 14 days. This virus was manufactured to attack the lungs directly within just five minutes of being exposed… There’s no cure or vaccine available at the moment. They’re hard to develop.”

TV Audition Tips: How to Get More Television Acting Jobs

TV audition tips Learn how to get more television acting jobs.

The differences between movie and TV productions are very different. In our previous guide, we discussed film auditions. We also discussed how the differences in a budget could have an impact on who is getting cast to work on the project, what casting directors are looking for, and how to improve your chances.  In this guide, we will breakdown the TV industry and what it means to audition for a TV show. The goal of this acting tutorial is to explain how producers look for actors to work on television shows

In our previous guide, we discussed acting auditions for movies. We previously discussed how to find a talent agenthow to find a manager, where to find acting auditions, and how to start your acting career, in our previous guides.

The acting audition and casting process for a TV show is similar to movies. However, the turnaround time for casting on a show is far quicker than a movie; While a feature film may cast fifty roles in one month. Casting directors on the television shows are tasked to cast well over 100 speaking roles at the same time. Most shows hire a dozen guest cast members for speaking roles per episode, but some significant productions will cast well over two dozen speaking parts for the same episode.

Every TV show production has an allocated budget per episode. The budget goes towards the location, extras casting, and speaking role casting.

Traditionally, a 30-minute TV show will film for approximately five business days. However, there are some production companies and studios, including Tyler Perry Studios, which is known for filming an entire TV show episode in 1 day. Meanwhile, a one-hour TV show will shoot for approximately 8 to 10 business days.

A standard network TV contract will include twenty-four episodes. A usual cable TV season is thirteen. A standard streaming series is ten episodes. Since networks usually order TV shows in blocks, many TV shows shoot twelve events in approximately three months, take a ‘hiatus’, and then resume filming for another three months.

The casting process receives scripts for each episode. On some shows, a table read will be done with the producers, cast, and directors, which gives the cast a chance to get a feel for the episode, scene, and script. However, this is not always the case, and many scenes are not rehearsed until minutes before shooting.

The casting director will then create a list of guest roles required for the upcoming episode. The list will include co-stars, guest stars, and recurring characters. Based on the script, casting directors will list the roles and will request auditions for actors to audition on the project. Typically, after posting a single character, thousands of submissions will be submitted within a few hours. Most casting directors start selecting roles for shows within a few hours after posting the casting information. Decisions for each part need approval from a producer and network. So even if a casting director likes a particular actor for a role, they will still have to get approved by network executives.

If an actor is lucky enough to get through the casting, audition, and network approval process, then they are optional wardrobe fittings, possible table reads, and other pre-shooting appointments.

What are the different types of TV shows?

  • One-Hour Drama
  • Dramedy
  • A sitcom is also known as “Multi-Cam.”
  • Soap Operas

One-Hour Drama

Each kind of TV show has a different auditioning style and requirement. For example, one-hour dramas are similar to dramatic movies, but since it is for television have a faster pace and style. The actors are required to have the skill to perform in intense tense moments as they are pivotal to the show’s storyline and arc.

Dramedy

Dramedy is comedic TV shows with a sense of drama. Casting directors are often looking for actors with comedic experience but also have the ability to make people feel connected to their character.

Sitcoms

Half-hour shows are traditionally sitcoms. Each episode is rehearsed, and each take is an entire scene. Usually, four-camera are used so several actors can be filmed during one scene without having to change angles for different types of shots. Sitcom acting is generally over the top, and casting directors tend to seek actors with theater experience and comedic timing for these types of shows.

Soap Opera

Shows that appear five-days a week a “soap opera”. A soap audition is very similar to a drama audition but, actors must be able to memorize lines quickly as very few takes are done for each scene.

Netflix’s ‘Love is Blind’ Open Casting Calls

0

Netflix’s hit dating series ‘Love is Blind‘ is now casting.

Join Project Casting to access casting calls you can apply to right now.

If you’re looking for a new way to meet someone this year, Netflix is here for you. Love is Blind is a dating reality series. The Netflix series is produced by Kinetic Content and created by Chris Coelen. The series first premiered on Netflix on February 13, 2020, as part of a three-week event series. The series is compared to Married at First Sight, which is also produced by Kinetic Content, and The Bachelor. 10-episodes were released and a reunion special, which was released on Netflix and YouTube on March 5th.

‘Love is Blind’ is a series where singles “Date” and engage without ever actually seeing each other in person. Once they pop the question, they meet, go on a tropical getaway, move in together and -if everything goes well, get married. Casting directors are looking for people to audition to be a part of the new season of Netflix’s ‘Love is Blind’. All you’re required to do is fill out a 46-question application, which covers everything including physical appearance, education, religion, and sexuality.

There are several matchmaking questions including, “Are you open to dating someone who is divorced and/or has children,” “What are your deal breakers?” and “Where are you currently meeting potential mates?” Applicants must be 21 and over and are required to upload photos of themselves to be considered.

About ‘Love is Blind’:

On February 28, the day after the finale aired, Love Is Blind became Netflix’s number-one trending series coming just days after Netflix launched its new trending top ten lists on their application on February 24. Tricia Crimmins of Mashable reviewed the first five episodes of Love Is Blind following their original release on February 13.

Comparing it to The Bachelor, Crimmins called the series “the bizarre reality TV experiment you’ve been craving”. She says that you never know what the couples will do next, even down to the altar at the wedding, making the series “harmless, entertaining, and satisfying.” Lucy Mangan of The Guardian gave Love Is Blind a rating of 2 out of 5 stars, calling it toxic, revolting, but extremely addictive. She says that Love Is Blind is the final nail in the coffin of humanity; however, in terms of reality television, she declares that it is good because it “exploits emotional frailties, profaning the sacred, making the private and precious public and worthless and turning it into voyeuristic ratings-bait.” Notwithstanding all of this, she recommends the show as an unexpected reality television binge, similar to The Bachelor.

On March 24, 2020, Love Is Blind was renewed for a second and third season. Filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 9, 2018, and remained 38 days up until the weddings. The couples met face-to-face on October 19. The ten days in the pods were shot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville. Then, after the newly engaged couples left the pods, filming took place at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, when all the couples went on a retreat. The relationships that made it through the retreat in Mexico move in together in an apartment complex. After the retreat, the couples headed back to Atlanta to the Spectrum on Spring apartment building, where they spent the rest of the time filming up until the weddings. The weddings took place at two event spaces called Flourish Atlanta and The Estate on November 15.

Netflix renewed Love is Blind for a second and third season on March 24, 2020.

How does the show work?

The series follows thirty men and women looking for love. For 10 days, the men and women speed date each other in different “pods” where they can talk, but not see each other. Whenever they decide, the men are given the chance to propose to the women they want to marry. After the proposal, the couples meet face to face for the first time, the engaged couples go on a couples retreat in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. During the trip, they spend time getting to know their parents and meeting the other couples involved.

Following the couples retreat, the engaged couples move to the same apartment complex in Atlanta. While at the apartments, they all meet their partners’ families and explore their partners’ living conditions. On the day of the wedding, the engaged couples have a wedding ceremony and make their final decision if they want to stay together or split up, answering the question, “Is love blind?”

Everything We Know About ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 3

It’s no surprise that the third season of Love Is Blind is already scheduled to premiere on Netflix. But, what may come as a shock to fans is that the reality dating show could be returning sooner than anticipated.

“We shot season 3 already,” Co-host Vanessa Lachey told ET in September while at the Emmy Awards with her husband and co-host, Nick Lachey.

After the second season of Married at First Sight, three couples got married: Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton, Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones, and Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson.

The second season concluded in mid-June with a reunion special, during which contestant Kyle Abrams revealed his feelings for co-star Deepti Vempati, despite having chosen Shaina Hurley in the pods. Since then, they’ve been seen together multiple times and have continued to banter back and forth on social media, engendering fan interest in their potential love story.

There are no spoilers yet about what will happen in the new season, but based on the show’s history, there is sure to be plenty of drama and excitement as singles date, get engaged, and eventually tie the knot. In the meantime, here’s everything we know so far about Love Is Blind Season 3.

With all of this romantic success from the series, it’s no surprise that fans are eager for a third season.

In addition to Vanessa informing ET that season 3 has already been shot, show creator Chris Coelen also confirmed that filming had ended in February.

“Every season is unique. Season 3 is a very different being than either season 1 or season 2,” he shared.

Premiere Date

Season 3 of “Daredevil” will most likely premiere within the next year, according to Variety, which says it was recorded directly following season 2, which wrapped in spring 2021.

Location

According to Variety, season 3 will be shot in Dallas, Texas, which has learned that it will include couples from Chicago (as in season 2) and couples from Atlanta (as in season 1).

Season 3 will see male and female would-be daters seeking love.

In season 1, Carlton Morton announced his bisexuality after getting engaged to Diamond Jack, which resulted in their breakup. There were no openly bisexual cast members in Season 2.

The third season will see 15 men and 15 women compete for each other’s love once more. However, the show’s creator has suggested that a sexually fluid season is possible in the future.

“I love to tell stories. All kinds of people have all kinds of interesting stories. To be able to tell as many different kinds of stories as we can, I think is great and something to aspire to,” Coelen told Variety. “If there was a fluid version, everyone would have to be completely isolated from everyone else because everyone would be an option. Is that something that we could do? In its current form, I think it’s difficult because of the way that everything is structured. You wouldn’t be hanging out in the lounges with people because those people could be possible love interests for you. So certainly, I’ve thought about it, and what I will tease you with is that we want to be representative in all kinds of ways and we are figuring out ways to do that.”

What fans may see

The unexpected, of course! Nick Lachey revealed the challenges the contestants face in pods when he was interviewed by ET in February.

“They’re going through an emotional kind of washing machine,” he told ET. “They’re just getting tumbled, tumbled, tumbled, and hopefully for some — I can’t reveal too much — hopefully for some, that results in some clean laundry at the end of the day, and for others, maybe they’re still in the spin cycle… It’s a wild ride, and for Vanessa and me, we’re right there at the edge of our seats with everybody else. It’s fascinating to watch it happen.”

Love Is Blind is now available on Netflix. Season 1 and 2 of Love Is Blind are now streaming.

Box Office Earnings Drop 97% Due to Coronavirus

Hollywood’s movie industry hits its lowest box office in decades.

AMC, Regal, and Cinemark shut down operations on Wednesday. Now, Hollywood reported the lowest box office figures since the film industry started tracking box office numbers decades ago.

North American cinemas took in less than $300,000 for all the movies currently in theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The box office results are down 97% from the comparable date last year and is the lowest daily total in film history.

On the bright side, drive-in theaters saw a major rise in attendance. Since audiences view movies from their cars, it is still possible to watch a movie with a crowd and follow social distancing mandates. That said, there are not many drive-in movie theaters left around the country.

Hollywood studios are delaying all new movies including ‘Mulan’, ‘Fast and Furious 9’, Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’, ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ and the 007 spy-drama ‘No Time To Die’, even drive-ins that do manage to stay open won’t be getting any new films in the near future.

How Hollywood Workers Can Get Financial Aid During the Coronavirus

0

Hollywood shut down is in full effect due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thousands of entertainment industry workers are left questioning how they will pay their bills; however, the Coronavirus lockdown will last. However, over the past week, the entertainment industry’s unions are working overtime to help workers get financial aid and support during these tough times.

According to TheWrap, guild officials say they do not have enough resources to help all workers in need, and federal assistance is necessary, not only for stimulus checks, but o ensure that entertainment workers qualify for government relief.  Guilds encourage those who suddenly find themselves without any financial resources because of the film industry shutdown to reach to their respective guilds for support, and for those who can afford it to contribute to it in any way they can.

Here is a list of financial aid groups for those affected by the Hollywood shut down.

#PayUpHollywood

Liz Alper is a ‘Chicago Fire’ writer and WGA board member, and alongside Jamarah Hayner and Deirdre Mangan, the activist group was created to organize Hollywood workers to increase pay and safety following the #MeToo movement. Now, the group is raising funds to send out small, short-term stipends to workers in need.

#PayUpHollywood has launched a GuFundMe account, which has raised several hundred thousand. The goal of the organizations is to provide emergency checks from $450 to $900 to Hollywood workers who were working on projects that were either filming or set to go into production when the pandemic hit.

$450 checks will be available to those who qualify and who are currently receiving unemployment checks from the California Employee Development Department (EDD). $900 checks will be available to qualified applicants who cannot get checks from the EDD for different reasons, such as 1099 employee status.  Information on EDD services, including aid to those infected or caring for someone infected with coronavirus can check their website for more information.

Those who wish to apply can fill out the questionnaire here. Aid will be provided based on the order of applications received and the level of need. All applicants will need to provide documentation of work lost, EDD application proof, and other information as listed in the survey. Those who wish to donate to the fund can do so on their GoFundMe page.

Actors Fund

The Actors Fund is providing emergency financial assistance and counseling to all entertainment employees. The group was included as part of a $2.5 million donation to IATSE and is no open to applications for emergency funds based on financial need. You can review the information on their website.

Motion Picture and Television Fund

The Motion Picture and Television Fund announced it would open financial aid and case management services to those affected by the Hollywood shutdown. Those in need can call (323) 634-3888, or check their website for services offered.

“We have been at this place before during the 2007-2008 work stoppage and supported 630 industry members with financial assistance and case management in a challenging time,” wrote President/CEO Bob Beitcher last week. Thanks to the generosity of our community, MPTF is still here for you today.”

Writers Guild of America

For WGA members, WGA West and WGA East are offering legal services to help writers with their contracts and employment rights for any productions that were shut down. The WGA health plan will cover 100 % of coronavirus testing. These and other WGA services are outlined on the guild’s website.

SAG-AFTRA

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation and the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund (MPPWF), have formed a coronavirus response reserve to provide support to guild members in need of emergency financial aid because of the pandemic.

Directors Guild of America

The DGA will cover all costs for those who need to be tested for coronavirus and will also include remote treatment from doctors and psychologists as part of their health plan during the California lockdown. DGA members can also apply for short-term, interest-free loans through the Directors’ Guild Foundation, which can be found here.

IATSE

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees is increasing its catastrophe withdrawals to include members who need coronavirus financial aid from job declines. The guild is also asking both its members and workers throughout the industry to help them in their drive to urge Congress to make preparations that ensure that Hollywood workers will be able to qualify for any federal relief programs created in the coming weeks. Check their website for more resources for members.

Teamsters Local 399

Drivers that are members of the Teamsters Local 399 who are out of work due to production shutdowns can now apply for jobs at local grocery stores through the union. Local 399 has arranged for preferential employment of members who are in immediate need of a paycheck to take driver jobs at Ralph’s, Albertsons, Vons, and Stater Bros. stores. The union is also allowing members to waive due payments. Information for members is available on the union website.

Coronavirus: Georgia’s Film Industry is Ready to Bounce Back

0

Once the Coronavirus Pandemic is over, Georgia’s film industry is set to bounce back.

Leaders in Georgia’s film and TV industry are optimistic about the future of the state’s film industry despite the Hollywood shutdown.

Reps from the film industry reported 100% of the people working on the frontlines of the film industry are now unemployed due to the Georgia stay-at-home order.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees reported: “The entire entertainment industry is shut down”.

Michael Akins, the IATSE business agent explained, “There are no public events. You’re talking tens of thousands of people who make their living in this are sitting at home. They have no way to work. They don’t work for a company,” he said. “They’re essentially unemployed.”

But, Georgia’s film industry is expected to bounce bank. Entertainment  Stephen Weizenecker told The Center Square “that even though production sets are closed, people still are working behind the scenes to secure deals and create content.” Weizenecker added that lost production studios are still open negotiating new deals and financing with banks.

It is important to note social-distancing mandates have caused an increased demand for online video content with nearly all major streaming platforms seeing a significant rise in the number of people and hours streamed per day.

Weizenecker says he expects Georgia’s film industry to bounce bank. “Georgia is well-positioned to remain a top production center. In fact, we are currently hosting an extensive slate of feature films – everything from ‘Red Notice’ to ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ to television series including ‘Council of Dads’ and ‘Doom Patrol.’ ”

How the Coronavirus is impacting Georgia’s film industry.

On Friday, March 20, Lee Thomas, Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Film Office, issued a statement about the Coronavirus and its impact on the number 1 filming capital of the world for blockbuster movies.

Thomas began by stating Georgia’s film industry is “stronger than ever” and listed several notable achievements including supporting 3,040 film industry businesses and delivering $9.2 billion in total wages.

Thomas continued by saying, “Film and television production activity has come to a virtual standstill not only in Georgia, but across the country, in a necessary response to halt the virus and save lives.”

“We know that many local crew, actors, studios, small businesses and more will feel the short-term impact from the halt in production activity, and response efforts have been activated and are in the early stages of planning to help our economy and the people who drive it.”

Thomas adds hope to those affected by the film industry shut down, “I want you to know that when these projects are up and running again, Georgia is well-positioned to remain a top production center.”

The press release goes on to list the several TV shows and movies that are in production and headed to the small screen. Thomas explained the demand for digital content will continue to make Georgia home for the film industry.

Thomas concluded by thanking everyone who has contributed to the film industry. “Bottom line – it is our mission to create jobs for Georgians and we are confident that the state will maintain its position as a powerhouse for film and television production.”

The Google Chrome extension, which has been available for a while now, is described as an add-on that “synchronizes video playback and adds a group chat to your favorite Netflix shows,” and is going viral as health officials call for social distancing due to the coronavirus.
