Indiana Jones 5? Disney Gains Rights from Paramount in Future Indiana Jones Movies

0

According to a deal they just struck with Paramount, Disney will gain marketing and distribution rights to future Indiana Jones films.

The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have reached a distribution and marketing agreement for the Indiana Jones franchise.
Under the arrangement, Disney gains distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining the ownership rights it secured when it acquired Lucasfilm.
Paramount will continue to be responsible for distribution of the first four films in the franchise and will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released.
Disney has not officially announced that a fifth films is in the works.
That said, Disney will likely move quickly to get a film in motion. [emphasis mine] Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has expressed a lot of interest to monetize the brand ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm last year.
The last installment, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” grossed $783 million worldwide. [Variety]

Basically, it’s Star Wars VII all over again. So, you should most likely expect another open casting call for actors seeking a part in the Indiana Jones feature film series! We will keep you updated!

10 Things You Should Being on Set As an Extra

0

Rules to Surviving Extra Work

Everyone needs a place to start their acting career. One of the best places to practice acting and still get paid for it is doing background extra work.  But, extra work is not all that it is cracked up to be. Expect long hours, long days, and the unability to talk to the cast and crew whenever you would like. After working several cold long days as a Production Assistant here are 10 rules you should follow to survive as an extra.

1) Don’t Stick Out:

Many people believe that if they are an extra it will be the place they will get noticed and discovered. Unless, they are extremely lucky, they could not be more wrong, the point of being background is to be background. Consider yourself as moveable furniture. So, a good rule of thumb is just not be noticed. Be quiet and unobtrusive; Besides, if you stick out  in one scene as an extra, it will most likely hurt your chances for auditioning for a role in that project in the future. So, simply DONT STICK OUT!

2) Eat when you can:

There will always be food on set but that food may or may not be for the extras and most likely it will not be that filling. So, it is best to get as much food as you can when catering comes around. Even if you are not hungry, grab a snack between scenes. Because, you may never know how long the next scene may take to finish.

3) Pee when you can:

Your bathroom breaks are short and probably non-existent. So pee as much as you can when you have breaks. Keep in mind, that every minute that a production spends waiting is money wasted; something that any producer and network hates. It would help the production and prevent you from looking so bad if you use the bathroom between scenes and not in between takes.

4) Don’t talk to anyone who isn’t directly extra related:

Most actors are extremely focused and by asking an actor a question you may throw their concentration off. More importantly, everyone has a job to do. When it comes to the crew do not strike up converstations unless you have an important question and a Production Assistant is not around to help you. Sometimes crew will be bored and talk to you but assume they are doing something important at all times.

Cast should not be talked to unless they talk to you first. Never approach an actor on or off set, you are not there as a fan you are a working professional. No autographs, photos, etc and assume they are always busy even if they don’t look it.

5) Pay attention:

There is nothing worse than a production being held up because an extra did something wrong, nobody on set has the time or patience to deal with it. So keep your eyes and ears open and make sure you are always in the spot you are supposed to be.

6) Be positive:

You will face long hours, not very good food at times, and even extreme weather conditions but sometimes its better to be positive and keep an upbeat mood int he room. Never talk bad about anything either on or off set, you never know who may be listening and you don’t want to get caught bad mouthing someone important. it could hurt your chances in the long run.

7) Don’t make a mess:

Everyone hates a messy person. Clothing, food and garbage are your responsibilities make sure they are cleaned up and out of the way don’t be that person.

8) Don’t be pushy for screen time:

As an extra you are not there to be the center of attention, don’t make yourself look like a joke by throwing yourself towards the camera or stars at every opportunity. Pay attention to what is happening and work hard. Essentially, the best way to make the most of your experience is to connect with other actors and producers on set.

9) Be gracious if you do get a lucky break on set:

If you are lucky enough to get a bump on set or snag a line be good about it and don’t act like you’re better than your fellow extras, you may have to come back down off your mountain sometimes and people remember the jerks. Use this line to boost your career, get an agent and or manager to take your career to the next level. You just landed what thousands of people hope for every day.

10) Help people out

If you see another extra is cold or lost or confused or whatever make an effort to help them out. Extras are treated badly enough on set the least we can do is make an effort to help each other.

How Do I Stop Overacting? 4 Tips to Becoming a Better Actor

0

4 Tips to Becoming a Better Actor

Q: I have been told this every once in a while, but recently an anoynmous person told me that when I act on stage, I have a tendency to overact and it’s very distracting. I want to stop this but can’t seem to find any good methods to practice. Does anyone else struggle with this during their performances? Are there any good methods I can use to stop? – J.J Warden

Many people run into this problem, overacting. But, what is overacting? Overacting can simply be defined as using too many actions to convey an emotion. For example, if someone was sad, an overactor would most likely throw their hands up in the air and cry to the heavens. However, overacting is a benefit for many actors performing on stage. Since it requires large movements and actions for the entire audience to see. So, here are 4 tips to becoming a better actor and prevent overacting:

#1 Plan what you are going to do.

You must likely see overacting when someone steps in front of a camera. A camera picks up everything. From blinking during certain lines, to scratching your leg. It is important that every movement and action is carefully planned and executed.

#2 Don’t Act but RE-ACT.

Michael Caine, a world famous actor, director, producer, and acting coach stated thats that at the end of the day an Actor should feel like they didn’t do any acting at all. As an actor, you should re-act to what your cast does. Act according to your cast members and feed off of their energy. This will allow you not to stand out as a sore thumb as a bad actor.

#3 Don’t Get Self-Conscious

Whatever you do, don’t get self-conscious and care about how you look on the outside. It will almost assuredly make the problem worse. Focus on what you are doing and who you are talking to. If you are able to block out the cameras, lighting, grips, producers, script supervisors, and the director and simply focus on the conversation, action, and dialogue at hand you will come across more realistic.

#4 Character Analysis

Focus on your character. Understand what motivates your character, how does your character move, is your character tough or weak? By understanding your character and implementing a focused approach to understanding your character you will learn that you do not need to focus on making extra movements to convey an emotion.

Waiting for a Callback After an Audition? Here are 3 Things You Need to Know

0

Not sure what to do after an audition? Tired of Waiting for a Callback?

Several thousand people have auditioned and contacted the casting directors for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII feature film. Of these several thousand casting directors are meticulously going through every recorded audition. But, this also marks the time were many actors become frustrated, the time waiting for a call back.

So, what do you do after you turn in or complete your audition? Here are 3 things you need to know

# 1 Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

I am not going to sugar coat it for you. There are a ton of actors and actresses competing for the same role that you are. Due to the talent pool size of an audition, it can be an overwhelming and competitive process. Having the expectation that you did not get the role will allow you to move on to the next opportunity faster instead of being hung up on your disappointments.

#2 If the Casting Director wants you, they will contact you.

A lot of the time actors become frustrated after not hearing back from a casting director for days at a time. Keep in mind that if the casting director really liked your performance during the audiiton, they will contact you. If you don’t hear a callback, keep moving and think back on what you can do to improve yourself. By contacting the casting director’s office repeatedly, will not increase your chances for a role. It will most likely decrease your number of opportunities in the long run.

#3 Try to Relax

If you are a “cantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwait” type of person, you need to learn how to calm down. Not getting a call back after an audition is part of becoming an actor. There are hundreds of actors that were and are continously rejected before making it in Hollywood. By understanding that not getting a call back is not the end of the world, but a stepping stone in the process of becoming an actor, you will out compete your fellow actors in the long run. Besides, if every actor anxiously waited by every phone call everytime they auditioned for something, most actors will be driven insane in a matter of minutes.

Overall

The best thing to do is to appreciate your audition. See the opportunity to audition as a chance to display the most out of your acting abilities. By doing so, you will be delivering a better performance at the end of the day and will increase your chances for success.
