Disney Star Selena Gomez Admits Battling Lupus

Selena Gomez battles lupus

Disney’s Selena Gomez has announced that she is battling lupus and takes time off to concentrate on her health concerns.

Many believed following Selena Gomez Asian and Austrailan tour cancellations, that she was bound for rehab due to a nervous breakdown or drug issues. But, according to a new report, Gomez is seeking time to deal with the fact she is suffering from Lupus.

According to WEBMd, Lupus is defined as “an autoimmune disease, happens when the immune system attacks its tissues, causing inflammation, swelling, pain, and damage. Lupus symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, fever, and a lupus rash.”

Sources recently told Popdust that the 21-year-old singer was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease a couple of years ago, and suffered multiple “flares” recently, that cause facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches and joint pain.

“Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now,” a source told the website. “She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life.”

Rehab rumors first started from a source that denied the reports to E! News, but made mention of the singer’s health concerns:

“She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK.”

Phil Robertson’s Suspension a Publicity Stunt? A&E Reverses Suspension for Duck Dynasty Cast Member

0

Phil Robertson is back and here to stay

Phil Robertson, the leader of A&E’s Duck Dynasty clan who was suspended from his hit reality series on Dec. 18 following some hateful comments about gay people, and African Americans won’t be put on hiatus at the end of the day.

The network and the Duck Dynasty family announced Friday that Phil Robertson will still be part of the series and will appear on every episode of the fifth season.
Phil Robertson
The internet erupted with photos in support of Phil Robertson

An A&E statement to The Hollywood Reporter read:

As a global media content company, A+E Networks’ core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s homes, and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principles.

That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the misinterpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article and reiterate that they are not views we hold.

But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man’s views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family … a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.

So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

As the holidays come to an end and the Wal-Mart shelves are wiped empty of Duck Dynasty gear, A&E decides to take back Phil Robertson’s suspension. Whether or not, Robertson’s comments where a publicity stunt to fuel Holiday sales, or an attempt to quiet the voice behind a multi-million dollar operation, Phil Robertson is back and most likely hear to stay.

Keep in mind how much Duck Dynasty is worth to A&E Network.

Duck Dynasty is a huge asset for A&E. In addition to being the top-rated reality program on cable, second across all of cable to only The Walking Dead with an average 13.4 million viewers and 7.6 million adults 18-49 in live-plus-7 ratings, Duck Dynasty has multiple brand tie-ins. Duck Dynasty gear is available in retailers across the U.S., including Walmart, Sears and Cracker Barrel restaurants.

Overall, it seems to demonstrate that money conquers all. As long as you have a multi-million dollar train behind you, racist or homophobic comments are okay.

Jesse Jackson

Phil Robertson  commented on homosexuals that he cannot understand why a man can find another man attractive. It is also hard to ignore the comments he made about African Americans. In his interview with GQ, he commented that African Americans have a sense of entitlement and that things were better before the Civil Rights Era. His comments were so infuriating that Reverend Jesse Jackson (Civil Rights Actvist who stood by Martin Luther King Jr during his assassination) asserted Phil Robertson is worse than Rosa Park’s racist bus driver.

What do you think of Phil Robertson joining Duck Dynasty again? Discuss below!

How Much do TV Writers Make?

0

Ever wonder how much TV writers make?

A TV Writer is a job that many people think they could do, but few are given the opportunity, and very few can do a great job at it. Nowadays, landing a gig as a TV writer is a coveted position and it is not that easy, but once you got it, the pay is pretty good as well!

According to Huffington Post, TV stars Ashton Kutcher and Sofia Vergara make a nearly $700,000 to $175,000 per episode. But, according to the Writers Guild of America, a staff writer with a contract earns about $3,703/week and upper staff writers earn about $6,036/week.

A typical series produces 22 episodes so a staff writer earns about $96,000 a season, while a higher level writer makes $157,000.

What writers make will seem paltry compared to what TV stars Ashton Kutcher andSofia Vergara (who command a reported $700,000 and $175,000 an episode, respectively) rake in.

Keep in mind those are just the minimum rates. Showrunners with major hits are able to negotiate well above the minimums. For example, the creator of ‘Mad Men’, Matthew Weiner, earned about $25 to 30 million dollars a season.

What do you think about how much money TV writers make? Would you love a job as a TV writer? Leave a comment below!

Things You Most Likely Did Not Know About ‘A Christmas Story’

0

A Christmas Story is a Christmas Classic.

The movie centers on Ralphie who has to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940s. Check out 6 things you most likely did not know about the movie:

#1 Without Porky There Would be No ‘Christmas Story’

Bob Clark‘s success with the teen-sex comedy Porky’s (1982) allowed him the ability to make a movie he wanted to make. Without “Porky’s” there would have been no “Christmas Story”.

#2 Jack Nicholson was supposed to be in the movie

According to director Bob ClarkJack Nicholson was given the script and was very much interested in the role of Mr. Parker, “The Old Man”. However, Clark didn’t learn of this until later and the studio didn’t want to pay Nicholson’s fee anyway, which would have doubled the budget. Regardless, Clark said that Darren McGavin was still the better choice and was born to play the role.

#3 Tongue Sticks to Flagpole secret

For the scene in which Flick’s tongue sticks to the flagpole, a hidden suction tube was used to safely create the illusion that his tongue had frozen to the metal.

#4 The year is the movie takes place is…

There is a debate about when the film takes place. Evidence seems to point to 1939 because of The Wizard of Oz (1939) references. The decoder ring points to 1940. However, if you look at the calender on the wall (during the first dinner sequence), you can clearly see the first of December falls on a Friday. December 1st fell on a Friday in 1939, not 1940 as was previously accepted.

#5 Red Ryder BB Gun!

Ralphie says that he wanted the “Red Ryder BB Gun” 28 times.

#6 Christmas Story was a surprise hit!

The film was released just before Thanksgiving and became a surprise hit. By the time Christmas rolled around, the movie had already been pulled from most theaters because it had been “played out”. After complaints were lodged at the theater owners and the studio, the film played on select screens until after the first of the year 1984.

Acting Coaches vs Acting Classes vs Acting Workshops – What do YOU Need?

0

Choosing between acting coaches, acting classes and acting workshops?

Many actors have a trouble deciding between acting coaches, acting classes or acting workshops.

But, it could be a very daunting task to choose which type of class to take. But, at the end of the day, does it really matter? When the difference between an acting coach and an acting class is a couple of hundred dollars, then yes.

Here are a few things you should know about acting coaches, acting classes, and acting workshops before you fork over your money.

Acting Coaches

Many professional actors consider private coaches a resource for a specific audition and someone who can help you specifically on sides or on a monologue. Most of the time it can be very difficult to train for acting by yourself, because filmmaking is not a one-player sport. So, a professional acting coach and fine tune your acting skills in order to make you, specifically a better actor and concentrate you strengths and/or weaknesses.

Acting Workshops

Acting Workshops are typically held by casting directors for popular TV shows and or movies. Typically, casting directors will highlight upon the things they specifically look for in an audition and in an actor. One of the benefits of an acting workshop is the opportunity to actually meet the casting director. This is almost invaluable because most of the time it is not what you can do but who you know. So, by introducing yourself and showcasing your skills to the casting director in an a less formal setting will allow you to make a connection that could not otherwise be made.

Acting Classes

A majority of acting classes are held by “working actors”, professional acting coaches, and casting directors. The benefits of an acting class my differ from every acting instructor and each acting class. Essentially, acting classes can provide you the basics of acting. From learning how to audition, to learning how to portray certain emotions; acting classes can provide you with the foundation for your acting career. But, it is important to ask actors who have taken that actor’s classes for their perspective. (Warning: Some actors are very loyal to their acting instructor, do not take a single person’s recommendation for an acting class as a genuine reflection of the class. ASK AROUND!)

Overall

Overall it is important to figure who would be the best match for YOU and your acting career. Each individual is different and so is every acting class. By understanding your strengths and weaknesses you can increase your acting ability and your chances of landing a role that will take your career to the next level.

Duck Dynasty is Over? Family Considers Backing Out of the Show After Phil’s Controversial Interview

0

Duck Dynasty may just be over…

The Duck Dynasty family say they are “in discussions” with A&E about the future of the show following the suspension of Phil Robertson.

The Robertson family of “Duck Dynasty” has spoken out about the indefinite suspension of the family’s father Phil Robertson, who was pulled from the series reality show on Wednesday after making anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview.

In a statement from the Duck Dynasty family, posted on their website, the family says that they cannot imagine moving forward with the show if Phil Robertson is not a part of it.

In a statement from the family, they assert that Phil Robertson “would never incite or encourage hate” and that they were “disappointed” in the suspension.

The Duck Dynast family continued and said that Phil’s expression of his faith is his “constitutionally protected right.”

Read the full statement below.

“We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of ‘Duck Dynasty.’ Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.”

But, things are not all that bad for the Duck Dynasty family. According to Billboard, it is expected that album sales have increased due to the homophobic comments. I guess there is no such thing as bad publicity in the entertainment industry.

The English-language El Rey – which is set to premiere this December nation-wide with initial carriage via Comcast – would air From Dusk Till Dawn as its first scripted series. Robert Rodriguez, is heavily involved in getting the network off the ground, will be writing, producing and directing the From Dusk Till Dawn series himself. The series will expand on the story and characters from his original film and providing more Aztec mythology. There has not been a report if the two sequels will be included in the television series since, Robert Rodriguez only worked as a producer on those projects.
