[DEX AKA DEXTER]
Male. Ages 8-12. Bi-racial (South Asian and South American).
Dex, age 9, is an adventure seeking dino fanatic who looks up to his two older siblings. Dex inherited his love of dinos from his older sister Dana. He wants nothing more than to grow up and help her out on future dinosaur excavations. In the meantime, he’ll settle for using the field guide they share and his very own Dino backpack to go on his own extravagant imaginative adventures, with a twist. Dex is not above artistically tweaking Dana’s dino experiments to add more fun and adventure. Yes, he wants to solve them, but he also wants to have as much fun as he can while he does. He’s a ‘ready, fire, aim’ type person, someone who occasionally jumps in enthusiasm first and then figures out a new strategy if that doesn’t work. Fortunately, he’s aided (and grounded) by his best friend Kayla, whose logical thinking often gets them out of seemingly impossible situations. LEAD
[KAYLA]
Female. Ages 8-12. Open ethnicity.
Kayla, age 9, is Dex’s next-door neighbour and a ferocious collector of rocks. She has hundreds of them, carefully labelled and displayed in her room. Kayla’s love of geology is matched only by her passion for the universe. Her knowledge syncs up nicely with Dex’s passion for dinosaurs since dinos end up as fossilized rocks and it was a meteor (i.e. a rock!) that caused their extinction. While she’s away, Dana lends Kayla her dino backpack so that she can get right into the dino action with Dex. Kayla’s whip smart but adventure cautious, always wanting to come up with a plan before chasing after their next prehistoric mission. She’s a ‘ready, aim, maybe I shouldn’t fire’ type person, someone whose occasional indecision could lead to inaction were it not for her best friend’s drive for constant adventure. LEAD
Series Overview: Dino Dex is a Live Action / CG blended series based on the multi Emmy Award winning Dino Dan and Dino Dana brand. Dino Dex follows Dana’s little brother Dex who is now grown up and, along with his friend Kayla, has picked up his older sister’s fascination and seemingly magical ability to see dinosaurs in the real world. But as we will learn, Dex sees dinos a little bit differently than his big sister.
