A new musical is casting singer-actors of all ethnicities, ages, and genders for its debut concert performance at the Little Shakespunk Festival in New York City. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Henriad plays and classic Broadway musicals of the 1970s and 1980s, this production embraces age-, race-, gender-, and type-blind casting.

Casting directors are seeking versatile performers who can sing, act, improvise, and bring fresh interpretations to iconic Shakespearean-inspired characters. Both experienced musical theatre performers and emerging talent are encouraged to audition.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform in a live concert production of a new musical.
  • Attend rehearsals and music sessions as scheduled.
  • Prepare and perform a 32-bar musical theatre song.
  • Participate in improvisation exercises and take direction during auditions and rehearsals.
  • Learn selected musical excerpts as requested by the creative team.

Requirements

  • Open to performers of all ethnicities, ages, and genders.
  • Strong singing and acting abilities.
  • Comfortable performing in musical theatre productions.
  • Ability to attend auditions in Astoria, Queens, New York City.
  • Bring a 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song to the audition.
  • Performance résumé and headshot preferred.
  • Casting includes roles such as:
    • Northumberland – Alto or Baritone.
    • Bardolph / John of Lancaster – Alto or Baritone.
    • John of Lancaster – Speaking and singing role.
    • Peto – Mezzo-Soprano or Tenor with a youthful vocal quality.

Compensation

  • Opportunity to perform in the Little Shakespunk Festival.
  • Perform at Under St. Mark’s Theatre in New York City.
  • Work on an original musical inspired by Shakespeare.
  • Additional compensation details will be shared with selected performers.
