[RECITER] – 30’s – 60’s, any gender identity . A narrator and emcee who act as a bridge between the contemporary American audience and 1980s Japan.
Also plays the emperor. Commanding, charismatic, in control, with a twinkle in their eyes.
[KAYAMA YEZAEMON] – 30’s -40’s. Baritone. A minor Samurai chosen by the Shogun to defend Japan against the foreigners, he later becomes a Governor of Uraga.
Over the years, Kayama embraces western ideology and customs, coming into tension with his friend, Manjiro. He is dutiful and honor-bound, proud.
