DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL GIVING
We are seeking a savvy, highly organized candidate to fill the full-time position of Director of Institutional Giving. The individual in this role will report to the Vice President of Development and is responsible for developing and managing all activities related to grantmaking for government, corporate and foundation entities. The Director of Institutional Giving will write and submit grant proposals, track deliverables and compile reports for funders, manage a calendar of submission dates and deadlines, and prospect for new funding sources for Nashville Public Radio, including 90.3 WPLN News and 91.1 WXNP, Nashville’s Music Experience. We’re looking for someone who’s a strategic thinker, mission-driven, team-oriented, and a skilled writer who has a “can-do” solution orientation. Our Director of Institutional Giving will excel while working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, and have a history of consistently meeting deadlines and exceeding goals.
Responsibilities
Research and Cultivation
- Strategically seek grant opportunities that align well with Nashville Public Radio’s programmatic plans, priorities, and mission.
- Collaborate with the VP of Development, the corporate sponsorship team, and board committees to identify and cultivate prospective corporate and foundation funders.
- Regularly monitor federal, state, and local websites, prospecting tools, and other sources for Request for Proposals (RFP) announcements and guidelines.
- Build relationships with corporate and foundation funders, involving the CEO, VP of Development, and corporate sponsorship team when appropriate.
- Foster positive and organized working relationships with staff members and key contacts.
Proposal Development and Submission
- Coordinate and manage the application process for grant opportunities, including developing the strategy, submission plan, writing, document collection, internal and external submission deadlines, and final submission of all related materials.
- Serve as lead writer and editor for all aspects of the application process. Ensure accuracy of all submitted materials and collaborate with the finance team on the submission of financial reports.
- Serve as liaison to program staff of grantmaking entities, and actively solicit feedback on proposal preparation and solicitations.
Grant Management
- Upon receipt of a grant award, monitor progress and ensure appropriate grant fulfillment and effective communication with the funding entity.
- Maintain a detailed application and reporting calendar, including prospective sources, grants awarded, reports submitted, and those funding entities who are on a hiatus or declined.
- Provide budget projections and institutional giving financial information to the leadership team as requested.
- Write and submit all required reports and grant documentation.
- Maintain grantmaking historical records and regularly update Nashville Public Radio’s CRM system to document institutional giving information and track donor activity.
- Manage the gift acknowledgment process for institutional giving.
- Create an annual plan for each institutional supporter with identified points of contact and communication, above and beyond the traditional submission process.
- Attend Nashville Public Radio and outside events to represent the organization, for networking and external relations.
REQUIRED: 3-5 years of grant writing experience with demonstrated success in applying for and administering grants. Demonstrated skill in developing proposal budgets and a proven track record with institutional funders. Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree a plus.
Necesssary Skills And Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to present information in a concise, accurate and persuasive format.
- Experienced at multi-tasking, working calmly under the pressure of deadlines, while managing competing priorities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Windows operating systems and familiarity with utilizing various grant submission systems and portals.
- Work effectively in a collaborative, highly team-oriented environment, yet possess initiative, self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. Days and hours of work vary, but often run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional weekend and evening hours will be necessary.
This position can be in-office or a hybrid structure.

Every weekday at noon, This Is Nashville provides a platform for real conversation. WPLN’s first-ever daily show brings a wide range of topics to life by centering diverse voices from across the city and region alongside in-depth original reporting and the latest on the day’s top news.
As one of our multimedia producers, you will find and book engaging guests, produce top-notch audio and digital content to help shape the sound, focus and editorial direction of This Is Nashville. You’ll be responsible for making clear and professional editorial, audio and social media decisions as part of a tight-knit team and under the pressure of daily deadlines.
We’re looking for someone with superior creative and editorial judgment who fully grasps our community-first approach and knows what kinds of conversations will make listeners lean in. In addition to production chops, we’re looking for a candidate who displays a clear grasp on the current media environment and a demonstrated ability to use digital platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok to maximize audience engagement with our content.

What would you be doing?
Here are the job responsibilities for a daily show producer at This Is Nashville:
- Work 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with nights and weekends as necessary.
- Produce 1-2 live shows per week.
- Produce sound-rich features and scenes.
- Adapt segments and features for use across digital platforms: In addition to the radio show, your work will live on our website and on social media.
- Identify and book guests.
- Pitch and develop episode topics.
- Spend time reporting out in the field, building and maintaining new source relationships with underrepresented communities.
- Prepare the host and others for the show with background, research and context.
- Help foster a positive workplace culture.
What is This Is Nashville?
This Is Nashville is the flagship daily show from WPLN News and Nashville Public Radio. Since our launch in March 2022, we have interviewed hundreds of people on wide-ranging topics, from Nashville nightlife to domestic violence. Our show is a journey into the identity of Nashville, and a lot of our work dives into our history and its significance to the city we know today.
We’ve taken listeners out into the field with us on a quest to find the purple martins, a night out at one of few remaining lesbian bars in the country, a celebration in Promise Land, Tennessee, and a hike to find a rare and extremely valuable ‘miracle plant.’
WPLN News is the newsroom of Nashville Public Radio, a community-licensed, nonprofit news outlet that strives to cover our region with context, courage and respect. - Commitment to equity. We want to see a clear and demonstrated ability in reaching out to and including diverse communities.
- Community engagement. Building and maintaining new and meaningful source relationships is a must. We need to see a clear ability to do that.
- Quality and range in past work. We want to see your range as a journalist. What are your areas of focus and how do you build your repertoire for them?
Audio skills are a plus.

EVENTS AND PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR – WPLN
Nashville Public Radio is seeking an experienced events professional to fill the full-time position of Events and Promotions Director. The individual in this role will report to the Vice President of Development and is responsible for developing and managing activities related to events for Nashville Public Radio, with a specific focus on WPLN News event opportunities. The Events and Promotions Director will create memorable experiences for our audiences, fulfill and expand community engagement opportunities, and be responsible for the project management of events. We’re looking for someone who’s a strategic thinker, mission-driven, team-oriented, and highly collaborative. Our Events and Promotions Director will excel while working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate proficiency in managing small and large-scale events.
Position Summary
The Events and Promotions Director will work across the organization to leverage content and initiatives to create events that make Nashville Public Radio more visible, relevant, and valuable to Middle Tennessee. This position will have primary responsibility for fundraising and community-based events and will integrate fundraising and sponsorship strategies to create new sources of revenue. This role will be responsible for all aspects of the event experience – from assigning roles and deliverables to ensuring that our on-site presence reflects the quality and professionalism that audiences expect.
Responsibilities
Event Strategy
- In partnership with the VP of Development, create and implement an annual WPLN News events plan for in-person audience engagement and revenue generation.
- Develop and implement project management plans per event, including managing deadlines, partner relationships and event execution.
- Serve as point of contact for venues and partners throughout the planning and execution of events.
- Provide event reporting and proof-of-performance documentation following each event.
- Work closely with content teams to identify opportunities to enhance audience engagement.
Event Management
- Work directly with content team, sponsorship team, and administrative staff on event planning and execution.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and pricing.
- Attend all events and schedule tasks and responsibilities for additional staff members and volunteers. Oversee on-site presence and logistics.
- Manage invitation process for events, in partnership with the Development team and volunteers, as appropriate.
- Oversee all event constituent tracking, including providing invitation and attendee lists for entry into database.
- Oversee a station-wide volunteer system and process to assist with volunteer management, including the identification of volunteer opportunities, and implementing a tracking system to measure and organize volunteer engagement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting with fund drives.
NECESSSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 3-5 years of event experience with demonstrated success in revenue generating events.
- Proven skills in event production, vendor management, project management, and collaborating across teams.
- Track record with developing experiential content that engages and delights diverse audiences.
- Work experience in media, nonprofit, marketing, or public relations is a plus.
- Must have command of the following software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Office applications.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- A valid Tennessee driver’s license
