Lead and Supporting Actors for NYU Film “Boys Don’t Dance”

Job Description
An NYU student film titled Boys Don’t Dance is now casting SAG and non-union actors for multiple lead and supporting roles in New York City. This powerful experimental dance film explores sexuality, love, loss, and identity through movement and intimate storytelling.

The story follows Arthur, a young dance instructor who returns to his childhood after being asked to deliver a eulogy for a former friend. Production is seeking emotionally grounded performers who are comfortable with vulnerable material and character-driven storytelling. Some roles are paid, and all roles include copy, credit, and meals.

Filming will take place in NYC.

Job Responsibilities

• Portray complex, emotionally layered characters

• Perform scripted dialogue and participate in movement-based scenes

• Collaborate closely with the director and cast

• Participate in scenes involving intimacy where specified

• Bring authenticity and depth to character-driven storytelling

Requirements

• Open to SAG and non-union performers

• Must be available for NYC filming

• Strong dramatic acting skills

• Comfortable with emotionally vulnerable material

• Select roles require intimacy (kissing and hand-to-skin contact)

• Select roles require partial nudity (shirtless scenes)

Compensation

• Lead roles: $100 per day (where specified)

• Supporting role (Manny): $80 per day

• Some supporting roles: unpaid

• All roles receive copy, credit, and meals

Available Roles

• Arthur (Lead) – Male, 32–40, any ethnicity. A withdrawn, emotionally guarded choreographer struggling with grief, queerness, and unresolved trauma. Paid $100/day.

• Sticks (Lead) – Male, 18–20, any ethnicity. Young Arthur. Sensitive yet guarded, navigating identity and first love. Requires intimacy and partial nudity. Paid $100/day.

• Jersey (Lead) – Male, 18–20, any ethnicity. Arthur’s first love. Confident, emotionally open, and protective. Requires intimacy and partial nudity. Paid $100/day.

• Manny (Supporting) – Male, 18–20, any ethnicity. Charismatic but physically imposing leader of a friend group. Enforces rigid masculinity. Requires partial nudity. Paid $80/day.

• Brooke (Supporting) – Male, 15–18, any ethnicity. Manny’s loyal second-in-command. Loud, obedient, morally flexible. Not paid.

• Coney (Supporting) – Male, 15–18, any ethnicity. Attention-seeking and insecure, masking vulnerability with humor. Not paid.

• Melissa (Supporting) – Female, 32–40, any ethnicity. Arthur’s wife. Caring yet independent, supportive but strong-willed. Not paid.
