Sesame Workshop is looking for a Senior Art Director. Multi-disciplinary brand creative leader to drive the brand vision and creative strategy for Sesame Workshop, Sesame Street and new IP and deliver effective brand solutions across multiple media platforms including on-air promo, video, digital, web, social content + campaigns, experiential, etc. Manage creative professionals: designers, writer, producer, and foster a culture of brand design-led thinking to enable the Workshop to reach its business goals. This role will report to Vice President, Branded Content with the Brand Creative team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop vibrant visual identities for the Workshop and new properties across major consumer touch points for multiple audiences: trade, families, kids, and fans.
  • Lead brand Creative for digital, video, print, and events
  • Partner with Brand Marketing to inspire and elevate storytelling solutions for all video/promo, partnerships, digital and social media channels.
  • Work closely with Brand Marketing, Media & Education and Social Impact & Philanthropy to elevate creative from distribution partners (HBO, PBS), sponsors, name & likeness campaigns, advocacy work etc.
  • Lead cross-functional team for consumer engagement, brand design strategy, and production for marketing campaigns on all platforms, image campaigns, show opens and packages, experiential branding, key art and print and more
  • Oversee video and photography shoots for promo, sizzles, show opens, key art, consumer products and other projects.
  • Direct and collaborate with production, photographers, illustrators, retouch artists
  • Work closely with the Project Managers and Production to inform schedules, team assignments and project deliverables
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with partners across the department and organization
  • Stay current and up-to-date with new design trends, techniques and processes; seek out and recommend new best practices; drive creative design evolution and innovation
  • Foster an inclusive environment that encourages intelligent risk-taking, innovation and creative excellence. Provide clear goals, support and actionable feedback for team growth.
  • Oversee external creative agencies and outside vendors as needed.
  • Act as a brand steward to stakeholders both internal and external.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of brand creative experience within a management role at a branding agency, entertainment brand, or with a consumer/educational brand.
  • Expertise driving brand promotion with media partners (HBO/ PBS/ / Apple/ Homer / Sea World, etc).
  • Sophisticated leader and storyteller to inspire strong to deliver on our mission to help kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder.

POSITION SUMMARY

Leading a portfolio of brands, the executive producer will manage and mentor a team of producers to execute projects to a high creative standard. They will be the key production point of contact for Clients, senior account members and creatives. They will be charged with problem solving and leading the charge for innovative production strategy designed to navigate the current challenging landscape.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adapt existing production workflows based on specific client needs
  • Negotiate and supervise key production partners (postproduction, Talents Management, BA)

  • Experience developing graphics for apparel and/or home goods
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to persuasively critique design
  • Innate interest and curiosity for a wide range of client sectors, including fashion, beauty, spirits, tech, media, luxury brands and more, with a nuanced understanding or desire to figure out how to differentiate each 
  • A lofty design aesthetic with the ability to translate it for mass appeal

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Highly proficient in both 2D and 3D design software
  • Highly proficient in Photoshop (to render photo-realistic representation of products)
  • Highly proficient in Illustrator (to generate tech packs for small leather goods, bags, apparel and other accessories as well as packaging specs)
  • Proficiency in InDesign (to pull together presentations)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Work with the Senior Leadership to identify, select, and establish ongoing relationships with an international cadre of judges, Scientific Advisory Council members, nominators, nominating institutions, and affiliated partners.
  • Review nominations in broad disciplinary areas of biomedicine and life sciences; evaluating each application according to rigorous quantitative and qualitative metrics.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for judges in your topic area and programs; facilitate nominee/applicant evaluation and honoree selection by juries of expert scientists, conducted both online and in-person.
  • Prepare multimedia materials for broad audiences that explain the impact of the honorees’ complex scientific research.
  • Conceptualize and develop scientific programming for international and domestic symposia that showcase honoree research for scientific and lay audiences.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership, other team members, Academy’s operations team, affiliated partners, and other vendors as needed to develop and execute domestic and international award ceremonies and other program events.
  • Collaborate across Academy departments to identify potential opportunities for ongoing honoree engagement in additional Academy initiatives and publications
  • As needed, work with the Vice President, Life Sciences to conceptualize, organize, secure financial support for, and convene scientific conferences and programming in various areas of life and biomedical sciences.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD required in an appropriate subject area of life sciences or biomedicine. Experience in the field(s) of cancer biology, bioengineering, computational biology, immunology, or microbiology a plus.
  • Professional experience outside of academic research. This may include activities pursued in parallel to a research career, for example outreach activities or committee service, or more formal professional experience working in scientific publishing, non-profit, etc.
  • Post-doctoral or related experience in academia, government, or industrial research, and/or science publishing a plus.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience, ability, and comfort in dealing with complex scientific information beyond own area of expertise.
  • Experience with grant writing and program management a plus.
  • Experience in global academic ecosystems outside of the US a plus.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams across departments and to manage multiple parallel projects with tight deadlines.

WORK SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT:

The Academy operates during standard business hours Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm. Standard work week is 35 hours, unless otherwise noted.

Academy employees work on a hybrid schedule with in-office days scheduled by their Supervisor and business needs. Employees must be based in New York.

This is a largely sedentary role.

Travel: Some domestic and/or international travel (5%) may be required, most likely to the United Kingdom, Israel, Japan, India, and/or Europe.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary: $75,000 annually. This is Full-time, exempt position.
