“Breaking Fast with a Coca Cola.”

SAG/AFTRA Microbudget Agreement ($125/day)

Shoot Dates: June 10-12 in NYC

Writer/Director: Amy Omar

Casting Director: Andrew Dahreddine

Producers: Karine Benzaria & Jordan Hart

TALENT MUST BE A NY LOCAL HIRE

Amy Omar is a New York-based Turkish-American writer and director, and recipient of the Wavelength “WAVE” Grant. “Breaking Fast with a Coca Cola” is a coming-of-age comedy that follows two Turkish American teenagers who decide to fast for Ramadan for the first time, longing for community and traditions of their own. Amy’s goal as a writer/director is to share compelling stories of underrepresented communities, particularly Middle Eastern, and create a platform for fellow filmmakers to push boundaries with their authentic narratives.

[ÖZLEM] Character is Female-presenting, 16 year old (18 TPY) first generation Turkish-American living in the Midwest. Dark hair, eyes, and skin complexion. She’s rebellious, and curious about her heritage and faith. Moody and morose, at times; often sees the glass half empty. Best friends with Ada. She could be a bit more tomboyish, sporty, less graceful and effervescent. Ideally seeking a Turkish actor for this role, but open to other MENASA actors. LEAD.

[IPEK] Character is Female-presenting, 40’s, Turkish. Ada’s mom. She is very much a modern, American mother but just happens to have an accent. She feels liberated being a working woman living in America (even in the Midwest), and she can be the woman she wants to be by not living in Turkey. She is sporty, wears pants and probably has longer hair in a ponytail or a half up clip. She isn’t traditional or super deferential to men / her husband- sees herself as an equal (i.e. she speaks up at dinner, drinks etc). She still has a few traditional bits in her though (you can’t rid yourself completely of your upbringing) and cooks Turkish food for her guests.

Ideally seeking a Turkish actor for this role, but open to other MENASA actors. SUPPORTING.
