Bad English is currently being produced via the coveted American Film Institute Directing for Women Workshop program and was a Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge semi-finalist in its inaugural year.

She is sharp and strong-willed, determined to make her Korean family proud as she is sent to the US as a foreign exchange student while her family stays in Korea. She doesn’t speak English but sporadically learns by spying on television while her host mom is out of the house. She is concerned and becomes protective of the other Japanese exchange student living under the same roof, which has endured the strict conditions of their host mom longer than she has. She endures George’S abuse because George is persistent in convincing Keiko that she is the only family she has. Keiko bonds with Youngwon even though they do not speak the same language.
