Emma Watson wanted to quit the Harry Potter franchise as a teenager…here’s why.
Emma Watson grew up in front of the camera, ever since she signed up for the role of Hermione at the age of nine. Watson basically waved goodbye to a normal childhood and started working long hours for the Harry Potter franchise.
The role of Hermione has brought her fame, money and fans. However, the actress explained that she wanted to quit the franchise after finishing The Order of Phoenix. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly for the promotion of the final feature, Emma Watson openly discussed the lack of freedom she had her in life and all the choices she couldn’t make for herself:
“I have such a structure when I’m working on Potter. I get told what time I get picked up. I get told what time I can eat, when I have time to go to the bathroom. Every single second of my day is not in my power.”
This was not the first time Watson openly discussed her experiences on the Harry Potter franchise. The young actress told New York Magazine:
“I hate to sound whiny but it was horrible, This has definitely been the most intense, grueling period of film-making I’ve ever done.”
Now many aspiring actors may wonder why she’s complaining, after all success in Hollywood is extremely difficult to achieve. After All, Hermione Watson would never have gone on to model for Burberry, or have earned over $20 million. Nonetheless, I can understand how difficult it must have been for Emma. If you look back at your teenage years you will quickly remember how it was a time for rebellion, independence, growth and new experiences. Watson was unable to have this experience at all.
