Shonda Rhimes is Now Looking for Aspiring Female Filmmakers

Date:

Shonda Rhimes is looking for aspiring female filmmakers for a major mentorship program.

Shonda Rhimes is arguably one of the most influential and creative content creators working in the TV industry today. Her work includes hit TV shows such as Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder and Grey’s Anatomy. Now, she’s giving back to aspiring female filmmakers with her new once in a lifetime opportunity.

SeriesFest and Rhimes’ production company, Shondaland, are launching a new Women Directing Mentorship.

What is Seriesfest?

Seriesfest is a non-profit organization and annual TV festival held in Denver Colorado. Since 2016, they have been advocating female creators. Two years ago, they partnered with Rose McGowan on the Featuring Women Writing Competiton, when they showcased writing content that centered around women and featured women. The program is being expanded with the Shondaland mentorship program.

Winners will get a chance to shadow a Shondaland director during pre-production, shooting, and post-production work for a single episode sometime between June 2019 and June 2020. The mentorship will last up to three weeks, and the winner will be given $5,000 to assist with travel and accommodations.

Directors interested in applying need to provide a short introduction video to demonstrate their voice and why they deserve a mentorship, a reel or short film, and a resume. The festival will require all entrants to be 21 years or older and have three years of professional experience, however, the experience does not have to be directing.

Apply here by March 4, 2019. The winner will be announced June 2019 at SeriesFest.
