Here’s the 1983 audition tape for the lead roles of Mr. Miyagi and Daniel in the movie ‘The Karate Kid’.
Karate Kid was directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen, starring Ralph Macchio, who was only 22 years old. It was a commercial success upon release, and earned critical praise, earning Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Everyone loves The Karate Kid. Currently, The Karate Kid is ranked #40 on Entertainment Weekly ’s list of the 50 Best High School Movies. The film also has a 90% “Certified Fresh” rating at Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Roger Ebert called the film one of the year’s best, gave it four stars out of four, and described it as an “exciting, sweet-tempered, heart-warming story with one of the most interesting friendships in a long time.”
But before the movie earned Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best supporting actor, casting directors auditioned hundreds of actors for the lead role in the movie. Thanks to YouTuber avildsen1221, we can now watch the exclusive audition tapes for The Karate Kid.
