A Miraculous Getup: 4K Discs
We all know DVDs and Blu-rays. They have been great. But now, the 4K is here and it’s nothing short of a miracle. With it, our cherished movies like The Crow are looking sharper than ever. It’s almost like watching them on the big screen, right in our living rooms. But hold on, some classics still enjoy no 4K love. Let’s talk about those.
Fight Club (1999)
Remember Fight Club? Yes, that iconic film by David Fincher! It was a huge hit in the DVD era. And with the movie celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, it’s crying for a 4K restoration. But hang on, Fincher is currently tangled with the Se7en restoration. So it’s a wait-and-watch game for Fight Club’s 4K version.
Boogie Nights (1997)
Next on our wish-for-4K list is Boogie Nights by Paul Thomas Anderson. Oddly, his films aren’t well represented in 4K. Boogie Nights, with its unique mix of film formats, would really shine in 4K. Plus, it would be fabulous to get an updated commentary track. Oh, and while we’re wishing, add Magnolia to the 4K wish list as well!
Kill Bill (2003)
2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. And guess what? Lionsgate announced last year that they are preparing 4K editions of Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2. So far, we don’t have a release date, yet our fingers are crossed for a 4K-version of this Tarantino masterpiece.
Children of Men (2006)
Another film we’d love to see in 4K is Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men. This remarkable film of the 2000s hasn’t tasted 4K so far. But here’s the good news. Its director is an ardent home theatre enthusiast, so a 4K release seems very likely.
The Terminator (1984)
Last but not least, The Terminator. Can you believe it’s turning 40 this year? Rumor has it that James Cameron is working on giving it a 4K makeover. Question is, will it be overly edited? Well, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, the prospect of The Terminator in 4K is pretty thrilling.
That’s our list of five movies we’d love to see in 4K. Which other classics do you think should join the 4K club? Share your thoughts with us.
