Tyler Perry promises he will do whatever he can do to help the devastated areas in the Bahamas after the island was destroyed by a Category 5 hurricane earlier this week.
Hurricane Dorian killed more than 20 people and severely damaged or destroyed more than 13,000 homes in Grand Bahama and Abaco. United Nation officials said more than 60,000 people will need food, CNN reports.
“We are in the midst of one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history,” Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “No effort or resources will be held back.”
In an Instagram post, Tyler Perry promised to the people of the Bahamas that “as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better,” Perry said. ““You’re not only in my heart and my prayers, you’re in my blood,” he wrote. “God bless you. Stay Bahamas strong. The sun will shine again.”
According to TMZ, the actor used his own personal seaplane based in Nassau to deliver supplies to the Abaco Islands. TMZ says hipline made at least 2 trips on Thursday and is hoping to send several more as recovery efforts continue.
Water, juice, diapers, sleeping bags and other necessities were reportedly packed onto the plane and delivered. Tyler Perry also reportedly brought 7 people, including children back to the U.S. on return trips who needed medical attention.
