TV ratings for The Muppets hit a new low.
The Muppets have a major ratings problem. According to reports, ABC’s The Muppets was on track with steady ratings until the series hit a low 1.1 rating among the key demographic of 18 to 49 years old.
This is bad news for a show with so much hype and marketing.
The series is set in Los Angeles and depicts the everyday personal and professional lives of The Muppets during production of Up Late with Miss Piggy; a fictional late-night talk show starring Miss Piggy and airing on the ABC network after Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
But, this should be a surprise. Merrill Barr of Forbes wrote The Muppets review, arguing, “By taking these creatures and turning them into ‘real’ people, the only way to make them funny becomes having them do outlandish things. The only problem is they’re inherently outlandish just by existing, so everything they do just feels tame and lifeless by comparison.
Meanwhile, CBS had some of the best ratings on the night with the airing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer earning 2.3 in the key demographic.
