Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry are making a mental health documentary series for Apple.
Entertainment royalty and British royalty are working together for a new series. The multi-part documentary series will be available for the Apple TV+, the iPhone company’s new streaming service.
According to a post from Harry’s Duke of Sussex Instagram account, the project “will focus on both mental illness and mental wellness” and aims to inspire viewers “to have an honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces, and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not simply survive, but to thrive.”
The post goes on to explain Oprah, and Prince Harry will be working together as partners, co-creators, and executive producers of the series, and the project has been in development for months.
The series will build on Prince Harry’s continual efforts to raise awareness on the importance of discussing mental health. In addition to sharing his own experience over the years, he’s worked with various organizations and co-launched Heads Together in 2017, which is a campaign to fundraise mental health services and end the stigma behind mental health.
“I truly believe that good mental health — mental fitness — is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities, and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times,” Prince Harry was quoted in the Instagram post.
“Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive — sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.”
Oprah also commented on the post, writing, “Delighted to be partnering with you. Hope we shed a lot of Light. And change some lives!”
