Carlos Munoz, the Narcos location manager, was reportedly scouting locations for season 4 of the hit Netflix series in Mexico. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Munoz was shot and killed while scouting for the 4th season of the show.
A friend of Munoz told reporters that the 37-year-old was murdered on Monday in a rural area of Mexico, just outside of Mexico City. He was found in a car hit by multiple gunshots. The motive for the shooting is unclear. Munoz was reportedly scouting alone and working in an area prone to murders, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Munoz was an experienced location manager who had worked on several Hollywood productions in Mexico including Man on Fire, Apocalypto, and Spectre.
Netflix issued a statement saying, “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz Portal, a well-respected scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”
Narcos season 4 centers around the Juarez cartel. That said, it is unclear if production will continue with Mexico locations for season 4. The Hollywood Reporter reports that over the past ten years drug-related violence in Mexico has forced many tv shows and movies to relocate or cancel filming.
