A prequel ‘Game of Thrones’ series about the Targaryen family history is in the works at HBO.
According to Variety, HBO is reportedly close to confirming a pilot based on ‘Fire and Blood.’ The book, by series author George R.R. Martin, was released in November last year. ‘Fire and Blood’ centered around the lives of Daenerys’ ancestors, including the first king of Westeros, Aegon the Conqueror.
If the prequel closely follows the book, expect to see Aegon the Conqueror, the creator of the Iron Throne, who explores the countless generations of Targaryes that fought to keep the throne. The show has been in production at HBO since last fall, and the people uncharge of the development have been working conscientiously: “It’s a double-edged sword. We’re having conversations about how do we smartly continue the Game of Thrones universe, but we have to be thoughtful about not killing the golden goose and not putting on shows that aren’t up to that quality level, and how many is too many,” says Bob Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment.
The pilot was written by Ryan Condal, who is the executive producer of ‘Colony.’ The show is rumored to be set 300 years before ‘Game of Thrones.’ It is one of five planned prequel. Another potential prequel is ‘The Long Night,’ which is set a thousand years in the past during the time of the White Walkers.
